I've tried reading Ultimate X-Men and I fucking hate it. I think I hate Peach Momoko; her storytelling annoys me and the art seems like something a tumblr tard would vomit up at the last minute of a deadline.

There was one interesting moment where a one-eyed girl with Cyclops' trait accidentally killed her mom through a door, and in a panic mutilated her body. It wasn't great either, but that moment of terror was somewhat captured. Beyond that, I find it impressive that this is what she's done with what she was given to steward. In the regular marvel books, the xmen used to be a giant in terms of sales and merch.

This is garbage.
Peach Momoko is someone that feels like they'd need an editor and writer to work with. The art feels like an American aping manga styles. I don't think it's suitable for a regular comic. The covers she's done are fine from what I've seen.

I found the entirety of the Ultimate Line so far besides maybe the new Ultimates (which is written by another hack Morrison clone) to be decompressed as hell and the X-Men is the worst of it. I remember liking her art in that Demon Days series she did but yeah this shit just inspires no emotion.

x-men porn comics have better art

Sadly, despite this volume containing both the Avengers and West Coast Avengers issues of the crossover

And that's the real problem with an AofV collection that's just the Avengers parts. Without things like Spider-Man's power boost allowing him to take on the likes of Graviton and Magneto, or the Fantastic Four getting harassed by a string of C- and D-listers while testifying in Congress against hero registration, whatever Dr Strange and the Punisher were getting up to (not to mention the glorious issue of Captain America where Magneto curb-stomps the Red Skull), you're nowhere near the full scope of the event. And the epilogue, where a sulking Loki decides to destroy Three Mile Island, only to be stopped by Captain Universe in the body of Spider-Man.

Heh. Looking at what I just typed out, I suddenly realize that while the FF and Spidey sub-plots are important for showing the scope of f the crossover, Acts of Vengeance itself isn't really necessary for them. The enigma force could have chosen one Mr. Peter Parker for any number of reasons, and Doom didn't need, say, Kingpin's help in deciding to annoy the accursed Richards clan with a crew of buffoons who would stand no chance against them.

But yeah, I loved those portions of the event I grabbed at the grocery store back in the day.

Always enjoy reading your thoughts, ive been reading thru Spiderman 2099

Man, they really butchered this character in the movie huh?
God I hate the 2099 books because there was so much potential there and it just fell apart, like every side universe Marvel does. Haven't read the new Ultimate line though, so could be wrong.

But yeah I liked the Spidey 2099 books that I've read, just the initial run Peter David did. And I doubt whoever wrote the movie bothered reading any of them, Hollywood prides itself on its ignorance when it comes to comics.

Ive been really getting into Garth Ennis and Battle Picture Weekly again, forgot how good the writing was in some parts. Its really excellent for comic material, even if hes not the best British writer hes most certainly my favourite British writer. The stories are just no bullshit, gritty and fun.

I'm almost done with my Invincible re-read, and I started tackling BPRD Hell on Earth. After that I got plans to read The Walking Dead, Transmetropolitan, with some Claremont's X-Men on the side.

Transmetropolitan is great. Not nearly as many trannies as the title would suggest.

Walking dead too. Great I mean.

Never read BPRD but here is my only memory of Hellboy:

They're summoning a demon that has 9 aspects. This Mike Mangina motherfucker writes a summoning prayer that is one page for each aspect of the demon. Just too damn wordy.

Check this out. Out of nowhere, FGO english server commissioned Adi Granov to illustrate some FGO characters. Who would thought that Adi Granov would go full anime.

Here are the original illustrations

I kinda dropped Hellboy since I forgot where I stopped but never came back. I always felt kinda undercooked and later found in manga, something more akin to what I really wanted Hellboy to be (supernatural investigation/folklore)

Hellboy The Wild Hunt, which is the third omnibus, does that.

Same for the two omnibuses that include the Short Stories.

Which manga was this? I'm a big Hellboy fan but am mostly manga now a days so having something in that vein sounds awesome

Kid Cudi made a comic

Not a fan of the angular artstyle but I'll give it a chance. Maybe it'll suck, maybe it'll be an ok story. Will report back.

ok, after a couple issues, I'm bowing out. Not a fan of the artstyle, and the story is Company sends people to the moon, something happens that gives them some form of Gravity Control. Once they're back on earth and released from quarantine it's clear the company is being dicks, or people are being shits and the company is done playing gently with them. The main character decides to use his abilities to help and gets into it with the security forces.

This is cliched and boring, I'm out.

I know its not the point of your post, but I hate modern comic art so goddamn much. Just look at how static and lifeless MJ and... Paul (who?) are in those panels. What expression is that on Mary Jane's face? Wide open eyes and showing her teeth. That's not even mentioning the composition. Paul's in profile in both panels, so you can't even see his eyes. And why is Paul talking to the wall?

We have completely lost the language of comics as a visual medium. Let's look at some classic stuff to remind ourselves how it can (and should) be done.

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection - Spider-Man No More-054.jpg

Oh, wow, something seems to have gotten Peter's attention. I can tell because he's lifting an eyebrow and looking to the side.

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection - Spider-Man No More-087.jpg

Peter all horned up over Gwen until Mary Jane shows up. His eyes nearly bug out of his head.

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection - The Goblin's Last Stand-087.jpg

He seems to be concerned about something. Hmmmmm.

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection - The Goblin's Last Stand-108.jpg

Gwen is angry and then ashamed. All conveyed in the art. Its really not that hard modern "artist."

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection - The Goblin's Last Stand-240.jpg

You don't even need to read the dialogue to know what everybody's thinking.

Is Peter mad here? Mad and a little crazy.

Wonder how Paul's doing.

Keep gobbling that cock, Paul!

Paul is the embodiment of Marvel's weird editorial mandates that keep being "justified" and stubbornly enforced as part of the status-quo instead of being voided and moved on from, especially in:re One More Day and its consequences. Who did, say, "Jackpot" and other such things appeal to, besides Brevoort, Spider-Editorial, the Brand New Day "brain trust", and about ten other people still clinging onto the delusion that "One More Day" was worth all of the bad ASM Spider-stories that have been produced since in OMD's wake. None of these people involved with Spider-Man have had an original idea for the past couple of decades.

It's like Marvel's editors all speak from the same scripts. Does Brevoort have them put through a boot camp where the manifesto is drilled into them? Consider this from a recent interview, just this past December with senior editor Jordan White.

One of the many reasons why I do not consider myself a Spider-Man fan.

Diamond Comics Distribution files for bankruptcy:

It's not a full-on liquidation yet, but if I read between the lines right they're just looking for protection from their creditors while they sell off as much of the company as they can.
