Is Marvel finally realizing that nobody likes their current comics and writers? Seems like half their new comics are set during previous eras and are being written by old creatives like DeFalco, Claremont, PAD, and they even brought back D.G. Chichester for a new Daredevil story set during the '90s era.

That stuff is some of their best content right now, Joe and Spidey’s fun times in Vegas was the most fun I’d had with a new comic last year.

I've noticed we've been getting an increasing amount of "yesteryear" stuff over the past few years. It's nice at least.

Shocking, the way to fix a red and blue superhero who’s rep is tarnished from poor writing is to just make him into a father.

Pull up a seat Optimus, welcome to the same club as nu-Ultimate Spooder-Man and Rebirth Superman.

I mean he’s been Hot Rod’s “father figure” for years but still, this is a good way to bring back Reagan-era Dadtimus, it’s about damn time that Prime was brought back to Larry Cullen’s wise words.
 
looking at solicits. DC is releasing a "Johns/Frank" superman trilogy. Which is a nice way of taking Geoff's second, and longest, run on the MoS and acknowledging the most important part was Franks artwork hah! Aside from that, DC continues to fuck up collections while Marvel steadily does it's slow release of fan favs in a semi-coherent fashion

Looking at the rest of the industry as a whole, DC and Marvel aren't course correcting. They're making the same mistakes. Scott Snyder is getting the Mark Millar treatment with an Ultimates we can't call the Snyderverse...but unlike Millar I can't think of a work I loved Snyder has done that isn't directly tied to him having an GOAT penciller. Mark Waid's finally getting his dream gig probably at DC, but it's two decades late and a dollar short. I don't know who they get besides Mora. But while I like him, I'm not in love with him or SuperFag to pay attention.

Other than that, there are charity gigs. Yeah, PAD is getting work because he didn't pay his taxes. Same with old boomers who aren't terrible (Defalco's 50/50, Claremont et al). But none of their work matters.

I'm sticking with my indie comics at this point
 
I skimmed over the entire marvel What if.. run for fun. I think my favorite story has to be the one where Xavior gets the power of juggernaut.

It almost reads like an iskei story. It's a very fun progression of him utterly dominating and kicking everybody's ass while using the minimum amount of force and maximum amount of diplomacy. It starts out great, but he basicly becomes a dictator that makes humans second class citizens. It gets to the point that Cyclops despite looking awesome and having a wonderful family life has to turn against him. Really made me miss old good comics.


I think my favorite stupid "rocks falls everybody dies" comic is the one were it's adapting a crossover nobody remembers were everybody has to team up to fight a giant snake god.

It's darkly hilarious. all of new york gets turned into snake people and there's a montage of marvel hero's getting their asses handed to them by giant snakes.

It gets better. The snakes took the strongest marvel super women, had em impregnated and made them super brides that kill everybody left.

Namor joining the fantastic 4 was cool. Cucks Reed, but he gets his own babe so it works out. Namor stops being an asshole and becomes a really chill dude.

The what if Sue's second kid hadn't died was really crazy. It's two stories: one where she has healing superpowers and leads a peaceful revolution against the government deep state that was pretty satisfying. And the other where she's rosemary's baby and fucking kills everybody. It gets so bad Franklin has to call dr Doom to help him. Doom is unnerved.

Both New Fantastic 4 stories were really fun. I have a real soft spot for that pairing


Lot of them are pretty decent in all honesty.

The first half was definitely stronger, though, with the New Mutants just trying to survive in Asgard being a lot of fun. Uncanny #200, 'The Trial of Magneto', was kinda stupid, though. I suspect Claremont is intelligent enough to know that there's no way to do that story well and have it end the way he wanted (Magneto going free), so I don't know why he bothered. Magneto's defense of his actions basically boils down to, "So I got a little over eager trying to protect mutants by constantly trying to wipe out humanity, can you blame me? I pinky promise I'll quit attempting to genocide humanity." Mix in some sovereign citizen bullshit about how the laws of countries don't apply to him because he's a super powerful mutant and how America & Russia owning nukes is an affront to his universal rights... or some dumb shit. Then the von Strucker twins attack and, of course, Magneto gets to be the hero and show everyone what a nice guy he really is. Finally, the trial never really gets an actual conclusion, one of the judges that Magneto saves basically just goes, "yeah, whatever."

Im not sure if it's the same arc, but one of them the What if comics had a story where some of the xmen stayed in Asguard and Storm fights frog thor. I skimmed through it so I dont know if it was good quality. Liked the art though.

Justin Jin has been a hero since the moment he became Juggernaut, in direct opposition to Cain Marko's origin. Kid Juggernaut is also approached by the X-Men, who are proud of his heroism, as well as Miles Morales and Captain Marvel, who recruit him into the upcoming Avengers Academy team. Justin and Cain's heroic careers couldn't have started more differently, and it will be fascinating to see how this difference is explored. Another interesting difference is that Justin is an out gay man, and there have always been subtextual hints that Cain is queer as well, and in a long-term romantic relationship with his "partner" Black Tom.

The "writer" of that article. These people base their entire lives around their personal experience so of course the only relationships they're familiar with are women's and fags, one group which is incapable of having a long, sustained friendship (partnership/business) with the same person and the other that has nothing going on outside of sex. The idea of two people having a lengthy non-romantic relationship is completely anathema to them. So they self insert their weird sex fantasies making all these characters gay (until marvel hires them to self insert their homosexual fantasy with the new, better fag version). It's very bizarre.
