Working through the Crossed series, on Badlands issue 31. I'll write a full post once I'm done but I finished the 'Mad English men' issues and it's amazing that Garth Ennis's storylines are the worst in this series. Good art, fun military history sperging and wastes the 2nd act with his weird fedora tipping catholic priest stuff, then flops on the ending. I'm still surprised he wasn't the one who wrote Family Values, but David Lapham. Which is unfortunate because I've heard Stray Bullets is good. The Livers storyline with Amanda was pretty good though.

After this shit, I'm gonna need a nostalgia palate cleanser and go through the Marvel Conan series.

DC is pretty much trolling Marvel hard now over the Spiderman marriage situation in 616 lol.

DC is in no position to criticize others for bad writing. See Bats becoming a literal memetic edgelord, black Catwoman, making Batman poor, Absolute Batman, etc.

How it can get worse? It starts with a guy fucking a dolphin for shock value. Not sure where you can go with this. It won't be animated ever, though, that's for sure.

They filmed a Crossed movie

Absolute Batman is their best selling line currently though.

Though the comic reminds me of Beserk in a way, with all the "fuck you, there is no god" vibes that the universe gives off.

making Batman poor
Okay, this one I don't think is a bad idea because Batman having to rely on limited resources was part of what made No Man's Land interesting. If executed well, you have a Batman who cannot rely on his gadgets and money to get things done, and instead needs to use only what he has available. Yeah he knows a bunch of people who he could call and get that shit for him, but it's comics, they're allowed to keep the characters separate until it's time for the crossover.

Yeah. It really hits me as a Firestorm fan and it grinds my gears a bit to learn how DC did him dirty in 1986.

I like Thor, he's also cool!
Buddy do i have the movie for you

Stray Bullets is really good, much better than the issues of Crossed he wrote. I didn't have a problem with Crossed, but that series was incredibly inconsistent in terms of writing.

And its artwork. Even the arcs i enjoyed reading (there weren't many) were marred by the absolute bottom-tier art in these books. Also agree with @SmokelessFire that Ennis' writing is bad in this, felt phoned in as fuck, despite him being the series creator. Alan Moore's stint on Crossed +100 or whatever it's called was also extremely bad from a writing standpoint.

Batman and Superman clearly entered public subconsious the way King Arthur did once, so no matter what DC does, there will be a default "shape" for both of them.
