Spiders Are a Popular Video Game Monster. They're Also an Accessibility Problem

By the way why do people find spiders repulsive but have no problem with crabs? Crabs I think are the more dangerous arthropods. They have those big, meat, claws just waiting to rip your balls off with.
Crabs are delicious.

I don't know if spiders are delicious, but I doubt it and have no intent of finding out.

Why wouldn't you put phobias in a game? It encourages you to kill them faster.
That's exactly what it encourages me to do.

I'm also not a fan of spiders or other things that skitter. That makes them more effective as random mobs in games because I feel no compunction in killing them all. Even as someone who doesn't like spiders I can see the reasoning for using them, and a big one is because lots of people don't like them. Same with snakes.

If TLoU2 hadn't been a massive shitshow on so many levels, the idea of killing dogs in the game might have concerned me - pixels on a screen, sure, but hearing pained yelps of dogs, even ones that were attacking me, might not feel great. Dogs and wolves are also a common enemy, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was an article coming up as well: 'Betraying Man's Best Friend: The Negative Effects of Murdering Our Most Loyal Companions In Games'. You're not going to get that problem with spiders.

All these people demanding everything caters to them and their needs, not accepting that maybe not everything is for them. Spiders may be common enemies, but if you can't even handle games where you get to kill them then maybe the problem isn't with games.

It's not a secret.

I dont like crabs or lobster either I just dont see them in the wild ever.

Honestly everything with more than 4 legs creep me the fuck out.

But not so much that I become a blubbering pussy when they are in games thank god.

I have mild-to-moderate arachnophobia and no video game spider has even slightly scared me, even the ones in Skyrim. It's the same way that I'd probably be shitscared of a tsunami irl, but smashing my city with one in Cities Skylines is hilarious.

How many films have spiders, plane crashes, fires, black people, snakes and the sources of other common phobias in them? Should they all be censored too?

Should they all be censored too?

Yes, these whimpering pussies want literally everything destroyed to make the world completely bland lest they ever experience anything, no matter how minor, that gives them even the trace of a negative emotion.

Here's the otherwise-unemployable autist and literal rape apologist who wrote this trash, alongside his burn victim gremlin of a girlfriend. Journalism is dead. Get in the bread line, faggot.

What's wrong smoothskin, never seen a ghoul before?

I think it's because spiders are known to sneak up on you while crabs actively want you to fuck off. Or maybe because there's something creepy about spiders have eight eyes while a crabs having two just feels normal. I don't get it either.

I mean, the Cazadores are kind of scary, but that's mostly because they move and attack stupidly fast (and sometimes in groups) and stacked poison ticks will really fuck you up fast.
Cazadores are a good mix of traits that naturally make people uneasy (insects, fast movement, aggression) and actual gameplay threat. Powerful poison, high speed, hard to hit even in VATs and frequently come in small groups. They're mean bastards that could be rendered as floating cubes and they'd still put many people on edge.

Can't personally think of any spiders in games that managed to actually be something to make me tense. They usually just lean on the creepy crawly factor.

The best way to deal with Cazadores is "know where they spawn, and have a good long-range option". I don't usually lean on VATS a lot, but for Cazadores I make an exception. Cripple their wings with VATS shots and they become significantly more manageable. Also, in hardcore mode leave followers at home - Cazadores utterly murder followers in HC. Depending on how comfortable you are with cheesing NV, one of the DLCs will give you a perk that makes their poison a non-issue.
