Spike Chunsoft shared a special Christmas Eve surprise for Let’s Players and streamers. The company announced that starting on December 24, 2022, it is fully lifting the long-standing ban on streaming or recording video of the first Danganronpa game (called Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc in English) past chapter 1. Now the rest of the game, including the Danganronpa ending can be viewed by all and sundry, with no permission needed.

On a blog post posted to the official Danganronpa website, Spike Chunsoft noted that since its launch in 2010, it has discouraged game streamers and creators making “Let’s Play” videos from recording the story of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc past chapter 1. After the ban is lifted, players can distribute play videos as they wish, up to and including the Danganronpa ending. The motivations for this ban were simple: As a linear mystery game, the story of Danganronpa is particularly vulnerable to spoilers.

But thirteen years have passed since its release, with several sequels out in the wild and versions of Danganronpa are available available on contemporary platforms. As such, Spike Chunsoft believes it is time that more people “experience the shock and surprise” that comes from experiencing the story, whether they play it directly or not.

As an additional hint, Spike Chunsoft stated that the lifting of the ban on December 24th coincides with a special date related to Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. It encouraged fans to deduce the connection and reflect on it while they wait for the embargo to expire.

To be clear, the spoiler ban lift only applies to the first Danganronpa game. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, are all still under embargo. Spike Chunsoft discourages the sharing of video or strreams past the first chapters of the subsequent games. The lifting also only applies to personal, non-commercial use. Corporations and businesses seeking to capitalize on streams of Danganronpa should contact Spike Chunsoft for permission. As an aside, it should be pointed out that these rules mainly apply to those based in Japan, where rights-holders like Spike Chunsoft have more control over videos that would fall under “fair use” doctrines elsewhere.

More details about Spike Chunsoft’s “Play License” with regard to video creation and streaming may be seen here.

If anyone wants to read it for some reason, it's probably this one (2010):

Here's the cross dresser. If he's a tranny, it's barely.

The game made it clear he was not a transgender character. It was pretty much said in the game he dressed that way because he was told he was too soft to be a boy. The end of his arc is him wishing to be more masculine and attempting to learn from one of the other characters how to do so.
I always find it amusing that they never try to say trans about Sakura. Guess they don't want this image associated with them.

Plus Sakura is legitimately a good person.

Spoiling does not harm someone's enjoyment of a media, in fact, when it's dramatic or suspense, it actually improves it. Even when people think otherwise. Been studied.

CR laws need to be burned to the ground, especially DMCA. Not that this is the most serious reason but it is still retarded. We also must never let the government sign a mutual CR agreement with anyone. Especially countries like Japan who have INSANE CR laws. (even things like game shark were de facto banned) Plus i'm sure that western SJ types, media and business would love to be able to abuse DMCA to 3rd party take down non-gatekept raw content and media that they would suddenly stop picking up.

They had streams of this game banned? I played the patched version on the PSP a long time ago and saw the anime. I had no idea about the fandom being as fucked up as can be. USG is the most playable since you can actually control/shoot. I sold it, but had no idea about the fucked up mini game.

For someone who's never heard of this game what is it about and why is the fucking game studio so butthurt about streamers spoiling the game past the first level? Does it involve trannies and wokeshit so extreme they fear no one will blind buy it if they know how woke it is?

No, its a Japanese game from 2010 so its heavily unwoke (yes, there's a tranny but its done within an actual reason rather than just being there, and in the end he's accepted as a boy).
But, apparently some assholes I assume believe that the whole "mystery" angle was mandatory to everyone who streamed the game, so they stuck to their guns.

There was no tranny in Trigger Havoc thats just some myth the trans people put out. It was a cross dresser who did it because he felt he'd be taken more seriously if pretending to be feminine since he was already effeminate.

This is a rule in a lot of visual novels. They tend to think if their big reveals get out no one will play the game. And they did DMCA anything that went beyond the first chapter it was a big thing when Something Awful did the first let's play of it.

Well, I do apologize for my misconception, my mind's just been warped quite a lot from looking and reading tranny shit.

And the visual novel thing is pretty bullshit NGL. We need to have an revised mindset for when it comes to this type of behavior. Getting rid of the copyright shenanigans and starting from scratch would be perfect.

Lol somebody deleted the newfag that bumped this shit and me making fun of him but letting the year and half old article still stay around. Fuckin lol.
Oh no wonder I saw this 2022 article pop in just now. What did this fag have to say?

Literally just some pity comment that didn't warrant bumping it... guess whoever saw it thought it should stay up here though. Instead of you know, locking the fucking thread.

Ugh....not an thoughtful follow-up...locking things up would be for the best.

So what's the big twist that the producers of the game want hidden so badly then?
The basis of the game is solving murders by collecting clues and then using the right clues to choose the killer in i think 4 or 5 trials. So they deemed anything past Chapter 1 (remastered demo) was spoiling the story for others and ruining the game for them.

like a lot of visual novels Danganronpa is basically a book with pictures and a few simple gameplay segments where you have to go back to the beginning if you fail. once you complete the game that's it. you've learned the story and there's almost no replayability. it's kind of like someone streaming a movie, expect LPers add voices and commentary so the issue is mostly Japanese devs being huge pricks, like they often are
