Jesus imagine a world where people dont play games to 'have fun'. All the irredeemable wagie niggers who live to grind already play MMOs.
You make games you fucking brainlet niggers. People buy games to have fun so they dont have to live in the clownworld or wagie cagie for a couple hours. Funnily enough FUN and ENTERTAINING and most importantly ENGAGING and INTERESTING games sell well in this climate because most of everything released is pure trash.
So before you add NFT cryptomining japanese gambling machines remember gaymes are entertainment and need to be entertaining and not a fucking business contract.

You're not in the mind of most of Japan.
These people play mobile phone slot machines for most of their lives, to the president NFTs sound like a great extension to that.
Passively earn money while you gamble sounds like a win/win combo because that means you'll have more money to gamble with. Because mobile phone games have arbitrary cooldowns which are tied to currency that you need to buy with real money in order to reduce cooldowns so you can gamble again. If you gamble enough you buy an NFT which is tied to crypto and maybe you can even run your phone's battery into the ground to mine some crypto yourself. Sell an NFT on the marketplace for in game currency instead of spending real money or sell it for real money, it doesn't matter either way it goes back into gambling for more digital goods.
Personally I really hate gambling for this very reason. The fuckers do it to see how long their streak can go but it's not based on skill or anything but chance, literally waiting for random numbers to line up right so you can get that unearned thrill of being lucky because it's not reliant on anything that you have done.
That's why the twilight zone episode on gambling has the personal gambler hell be when he wins all the time every time, the rush is gone.

because ubisoft, in their biggest brain move to date, decided to do it in.... ghost recon breakpoint. a literal dead game on life support. after they fucked up the launch so hard trying to make their own destiny clone with so many technical issues they even had to rip-out their battlepass.
honestly, that poor game has been abused so much, I'm surprised they didn't try to turn it into a battle royale yet (I suspect they tried and the game outright shat itself so hard they reconsidered before pulling an EA or didn't want to cannibalize their other BR game most people don't even remember the name of).

The main series will probably be left alone, they're already starting to experiment enough with 12 when it comes to surface level stuff and supposedly it's also being considered for an animated series if the FF9 stuff goes off well.
Square did do the Dragon Quest movie already, it's not bad just heavily abridged from 5.

One thing to know about this situation is that the NFT peddlers in Japan are using different arguments than the ones in the western side of the Internet. The people in the Japanese office probably didn't know there would be this level of backlash from the players

Personally, I think its different because there is one huge difference that changed everything, the Token part of NFT. Because its tied to blockchain, you can't deny all the brouhaha about NFT is just part of the hype train that is Crypto, and the massive amount of pump and dump schemes currently going on

I think "NFT" is just a buzzword for investors. I don't believe for a second that grubby companies like Square Enix are interested in "decentralized" anything or you owning assets in their IPs.
This NFT/blockchain crap is being touted to investors as a new way to make money. In reality, it needs to create some value for users. If nobody wants to buy the NFT, it's effectively worthless. It needs to be desirable to other players.
That's why I fail to understand NFT "games" like Inite who claim you can "sell ideas to make money" ( https://inite.io/static/how-it-works ) and Battlemon, a game where each character is a NFT you can rent ( https://youtu.be/qWrIBLdY6Ec ).
Hats in TF2 work because some of them are in limited supply and people care enough about the game. In theory, you can "contribute" to the mannconomy by playing every week to get scrap to eventually trade for a key to open crates. But this isn't why people play the game.

I wouldn't really judge Forspoken until there's a real game out. People just keeping calling it woke because the character has dark skin and they're playing voice samples over the trailer. I mean under those standards, that would retroactively make Gex woke.
It seems to be edging towards a Dragon's Dogma type game which also considering Final Fantasy 16 seems to be because Square hired a bunch of Capcom employees who worked on DD and MH. It's also why many of their games now are reflecting a more action rpg system and each one seems to be perfecting specific mechanics in a way.
Bashing the game before release with retarded criticisms which make you look like a Leftwing version of a Rightwing Strawman is something many political activist groups salivate to the thought of. Stuff like that is what feeds the race and gender hustlers, thereby continuing the cycle of neoliberalism.
