@DisheveledHuman I want to reply in public because there's a lot to say about it.

The gist of his message was that the image I generated from his avatar on the left was improved by hand to the right. He goes on to say that this is probably how a lot of art will be done now.

The hat was a weak part but it was a single pass. To get that specific texture and label, you would need human hands, but to just get a decent looking hat, I could have done that with just the machine.

The real blow away shit comes from img2img. Your initial prompt will only get you so far. The more complex your prompt, the more the struggle for balance. The ML has to choose what to emphasize and what to deemphasize, so if you just shovel tokens into the text input, you will lose a lot of what you want, and sometimes huge portions of your design will be completely wrong.

However, you can then go to img2img and very lazily paint black on top of the image and then try a completely different prompt to heavily specialize that area.

inpainting (technically outpainting because I am masking what I want to protect)

and one step further because why not

00034-655954299-masterpiece, highest quality, masterpiece, red moons.png

and by the way, you can specify things like background color

masterpiece, highest quality, masterpiece, wideshot of highly detailed space station in frame on limegreen background
lowres, bad anatomy, conjoined, bad hands, text, error, missing fingers, extra digit, fewer digits, cropped, worst quality, low quality, normal quality, jpeg artifacts, signature, watermark, username, blurry, out of focus, black and white, limegreen ship

so with certain prompts you can just chromakey whatever the fuck you want out and do what you want.

so back to the original, getting a hat on is strangely fucking hard but you do get some results that pass and are definitely easier to work with if you're just going to hand touchup anyways.

if it still looks off keep in mind i am trying to throw this together as fast as humanely possible

Not sure if the image is too small but can someone run it through and see what happens?

I can only imagine what butchered stinkditch roast beef this AI thinks is a vagina.
The truth of the AI future: its more confused than we are since it has to receive all its info from the Internet. I dont blame our new AI overlords for killing us all after furries made it draw porn
If we purposefully cripple technological progress because of a certain group of people who should be lined up against a wall, we'll just be stuck in the stone age. Just look what happened to AI Dungeon.
My poor AI dungeon. AI tech is so interesting, but some people just feed it garbage prompts trying to jerk off and ruin everyone else's experience. The fucking nightmares that AI came up for me when i just wanted to slay some orcs and raise the dead. I was dragged kicking and screaming to The Bone Zone.
.
I'm calling it now, the Information Era is dead and we are now in the Machine Era. Computer information processing is now more important to the direction of society than the general ubiquity of information which defined the information era, just as the WWW redirected the world from the Nuclear Era and the cold war standoff to a global interconnected community.
Not to be a niggler but i thought the machine era was before the atomic era? Factories, cars, airplanes, trains, those are machines, but computers are something else. I think we've reached a tipping point where technology has become so advanced for the wrong reasons that it just cant be trusted anymore. Tomorrow i could generate an image of Kamala Harris stabbing the elderly or Trump lounging with Putin. Photographic evidence is basically useless unless you can check the metadata to make sure its not AI. Audio recordings of Jordan Peterson can be made with an AI saying anything. Considering we only just recently got an AI trained on porn, how long until AI can fabricate or alter videos? Imagine watching a riot that is AI generated being used to make laws about events that didnt happen. Calling it a machine age doesnt quite capture the way it can disrupt reality on a global scale. When you live a continent away, its difficult to check for yourself. It's a loop of fake information creating more fake information.

Never thought I would live to see the day that Null is making anime avatars for users.
2022 registration date, so you weren't here for April Fool's a couple of years ago when Null made everybody's profile pictures anime avatars...

Earlier in this thread, @NoReturn posted some videos showing state-of-the art deepfakes which, while far from perfect, can run in real-time now and are only getting better. Meanwhile Microsoft is practicing making artificial computer-generated humans to train AI (and trick normal humans most likely). I can imagine a hypothetical crazy clown-world scenario where a man can deepfake Trump murdering a black prostitute who isn't even a real person -- ALL IN REAL TIME.

As others have said: "NIGHTMARE NIGHTMARE NIGHTMARE".

The post-truth future everybody bleated about in 2016 is definitely shaping up to not be boring.

Idea guys chads, we won.

So in the 2020s humans programmed AI to draw anything your heart desires and the people just wanted to make anime furry porn. I'm glad this will light a fire under the asses of those artists who somehow can only draw sameface disney/anime girls, though.
Are you even gonna do anything with it 2 years from now? If you really wanted to draw you would've put in the time already. Of course what you really focus on is degenerate furry porn.

I think you're reducing it to simply an either/or thing. Most often, art is a combination of both. A love of the craft of art and the joy of sharing that craft and creation with others. Human beings are social creatures and typically we aren't built for or motivated to do things in isolation all the time. Creating art for no audience whatsoever and just tossing it into the void where nobody but oneself can see it is lame and demotivating, not to mention the lack of external constructive criticism necessary for improving one's skills. Even hobbyists like to connect with other hobbyists to get feedback and build friendships/hold discussions over shared interests. Isn't that part of the reason this site exists? Laughing at lolcows in isolation can get boring and lonely.
Do you think DeviantArt is going to be closing down now? Or that if you make a picture for a friend or family they won't appreciate the work you put into it?

All the community / social benefits aren't going to stop existing because a new thing showed up. I garuntee you there will still be shitty art classes at the community rec center, or that wine painting thing that yuppies like so much. If the main thing you are worried about is that, why would it change?
