I would say this was the first episode I actually liked. It kinda slips at the end, but overall I enjoyed it.

Yea the only two things I didn't like in the episode was the Gorn ship design, then again that just shows how alien and unusual the Gorn are and the ending but it was nice to see the Enterprise sustain damage that looked series for a change.

It's fairly notorious that it is isn't a real Japanese name and there isn't even a Japanese name that sounds remotely like it.
He was renamed "Kato" in Japan. But Mike Okuda found a name that's actually very close: "Tsuru". But sadly, I don't think he was able to make it canon.

The dystopian setting of Ray Bradbruy's Fahrenheit 451 has a TV-like entertainment medium, except the shows have no ideas or development or structure, the characters just swing wildly from one emotion to the next, to invoke a reaction from the viewer. This is what Discovery, Picard and some other franchises like recent Dr. Who feel like to me. Especially when plot points that were brought up in an episode are seemingly forgotten about later in the same episodes.

Is it just me or is Hemmer the new Chief Engineer on the Enterprise the stand out charterer so from in Strange New Worlds https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Hemmer

Yes. He's been entirely enjoyable in every episode and seems to be the deepest caring about his role in his interviews. He's been able to shape the character, and by extension, help shape the Aenar and seems to give a fuck.

Man the only complain i have about strange new worlds is that for 1 second they had to remind me that Discovery exist, but this is a huge departure of the disasters that has been modern star trek (except prodigy that was not that bad), breath of fresh air to not be reminded that the characters are gay or autistic because reasons

You're right not to give into malignant optimism. It's inevitable that the hack-fraud writers of BNW will rip off a video game just like they did with Tardigrade for Discovery or Mass Effect for Picard. They don't have a single original idea so which will is be this time? Wing Commander? Space Quest? Star Ocean? Something Else? Place Your Bets !!
If they're gonna rip off another video game, might as well do "Where in the Milky Way is Vash?" A series about Vash and a crew of scoundrels, and they go around liberating artifacts from the various powers in the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Quadrants...

Nah.

Anyway, so far so good. I'm still waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under me. Although part of me is starting to believe the conspiracy theory that STD and STP were purposefully shit to just drum up controversy and outrage. They're including things I appreciate, like a captain who actually talks to his senior staff and asks them opinions. You know, instead of "I'm the most qualified, therefore it's the most logical choice to send me on this..." bullshit. Hemmer's pretty cool, and yeah, he researched his role so kudos.

I blame ardent commie Michael Moorcock who way back when literally wrote an essay called "Starship Stormtroopers" advancing this nonsense.
Michael Moorcock also hates Tolkien, so I'm gonna assume he's a weird old pedophile like most science fiction writers.

Starship Troopers is an excellent novel when you're 12, but people don't talk about how the big reveal at the end is "oh yeah, Johnny Rico was Filipino all along :smug: ". That was pretty diverse and inclusive for 1959, but faggots would rather seethe and cope at the flag-waving support are troops stuff.

I've given up on niggertrek.
I tried SNW after some comments here
1) Opening scene with a planet of niggers
2) Pike is given order from raceswapped nigger
3) Spock fucking a nigger
4) Discussion about space jesus nigger from STD
5) Bridge crew consist of some smarmy bitches and something that looks like a tranny
6) Nigger doc
7) Ugly Nurse Chapel with extra smarm
8) Rape discussion

Done.

Nu-trek is like a tranny...at first glance they may look like they have all the right bits in place, but something's off. Then before you know it they are trying to force their cock down your throat.

done.

No, instead they have to remind you that the english speaking bitch was raped at somepoint and she's strong and brave

The gorn episode was the first one of SNW I've seen so far and it was fine I guess. I wished they had just basically ripped off the submarine battle episode from TOS because it's shocking how well that episode has held up but I think the biggest problem for me was that the episodes are so short that they need to make the most of it and there just isn't enough time to build the right tension for this type of scenario when they're wasting it with all these sub-plots no one cares about.

The cargo bay situation with uhura was pointless, but nothing tops the helmsman's dumb fucking comments and quips every two seconds. No one really seemed frightened or determined except Khanette and her flashbacks were more pointless tragic backstory crap that is fine in principle but constantly seeing a ghost and requiring (yet another) mind-meld is so unnecessary.

Gene Roddenberry wrote an episode of original Star Trek, in which (somehow) "Deputy Barney Fife" gets transported to the future where Mr. Spock reports to Captain Kirk: "I'm afraid it's not life as we know it." However, the episode was never telecast since studio executives felt it was too far out for even sci-fi fans.

I'm glad this never aired because Barney needs to stay in Mayberry. Without him, the town will devolve into complete anarchy. Sherriff Griffith gets all the credit, but the person really behind why Mayberry is so safe is Deputy Fife patrolling the streets to ensure that safety.

If STAR TREK was real, and it was run by our government, this is what the future would look like:

And here's a scene from another original STAR TREK episode that was never telecast because actor Jonathan Harris insisted they include a fight scene where he beats Captain Kirk to a pulp before taking over the USS Enterprise but NBC wouldn't allow that so they settled for a Spock pinch instead. The script was a real mess, to say the least.

I have just watched the latest SNW episode (didn't see the previous episodes). For a Kurtzman production it was actually watchable. I agree with you guys, they need to tone down the dyke helmswoman, Trek doesn't need quips, other shows do it better (The Orville, Stargate, etc.). I liked the Balance of Terror aspect of the episode. Anson Mount is just perfect as Pike. I like the fact that they acknowledge their loss, it's something that you would never see in Picard or STD where they would be too busy being smug. It's a shame that SNW has to be related to STD.

Good to know that they still have wooden pallets in the future

Not a fan of the Gorn ship design. It doesn't look like something a reptilian species would build. It's closer to the ship from the Guardian of the Galaxy movie. Also I hate the Star Wars "pew pew" sound effects but that's a Kurtzman thing.

Like Nitpicking Nerd (or BirdOPrey 5?) said in his review, they should have used another alien species instead of the Gorn. No human is supposed to know about them until that TOS episode. I know they appeared in ENT but that episode was set in the Mirror Universe.
I might watch the next episode.

No one really seemed frightened or determined except Khanette and her flashbacks were more pointless tragic backstory crap that is fine in principle but constantly seeing a ghost and requiring (yet another) mind-meld is so unnecessary.
Wasn't the mind-meld still forbidden during that era?

I'm not really botherd by that as it does make sense with what Sung said "Plenty of people have encountered the Gorn, not many have lived to tell the tale" I view it like there where many people to travel to the new world before the 1400's just not many of them managed to return, ships blown of course, explorers misjudging the power of the Atlantic ocean etc

I am with you on the ship design and said so myself, I just really dislike the look of the ships but they are clearly alien in origin and not from a Human like species, it sorta reminds me of that weird Borg ship from TNG we only saw once and never again.
