We'll since I have Prime I won't have to go to the trouble of pirating it.Dave did say it would be on Amazon too IIRC.
I'm curious but I also don't want to contribute to their watch stats. Star Trek is unfortunately moving into the same category as Star Wars for me, completely raped, dead, and gone.Dave did say it would be on Amazon too IIRC.
I got the distinct feeling Robert Meyer Burnett was selling me something, not giving an honest review. It doesn't make me angry, but it's because I'm apathetic now.I don't for a second belive that this last season will be a significant improvment apart from the fact it features the old TNG cast, regardless of what some youtube shills have to say about it. The preview material just looks like the same shit from the previous 2 seasons but now they have characters we know to make the emotional manupulation even more effective. Also, in my experience at least, people who are shown exclusive previews are generally much more positive about the product. I don't know why this is, might be the exculsivity or might just be that what they're shown is being heavily curated but either way its no assurance to me.
If I'm wrong about this come back and rate me MATI and if you're still going to watch it, pirate that shit.
But that's the thing.Dave Cullen is not a current year shill. He is a super conservative guy that is outspoken against migrants and woke shit.I don't for a second belive that this last season will be a significant improvment apart from the fact it features the old TNG cast, regardless of what some youtube shills have to say about it. picard isn't outright woke tho - just outright shit, and not at all star trek. it's like drinker liking an episode of TLOU because he doesn't know and care about the source material, and sees it only through a specific lens. But that's the thing.Dave Cullen is not a current year shill. He is a super conservative guy that is outspoken against migrants and woke shit.
So they either gave him a lot of money, or the show is actually good. It would be very our of character for him to suddenly start shilling current Star Trek. I agree they don't deserve our money, but if it ends up being good then that's just more damming imho. That is, the fact that they would have done a good show, and still chose to do make crap.
The biggest problem with Picard (and all of nutrek for that matter) isn't that it's too "woke", it's just shit writing with nonsense plot lines and bland annoying characters. If you replaced every character on discovery with a 30yo white male it would still be a garbage show. The people working on these things have no passion for writing interesting scifi and their idea of being "groundbreaking" is adding a nonbinary character to the cast. The wokeness is a symptom, not the cause. Also let's be honest here it's fucking star trek, It's always had unusually diverse casts but no one gave a shit back then because the shows were actually good. But that's the thing.Dave Cullen is not a current year shill. So they either gave him a lot of money, or the show is actually good. It would be very out of character for him to suddenly start shilling current Star Trek otherwise. I agree they don't deserve our money, but if it ends up being good then that's just more damming imho. That is, the fact that they would have done a good show, and still chose to make crap.
I agree with you that, as much as I like to bitch about woke shit, it’s poor writing, what’s ruining modern entertainment. The biggest problem with Picard (and all of nutrek for that matter) isn't that it's too "woke", it's just shit writing with nonsense plot lines and bland annoying characters. It's a lot easier to blame wokeness and culture war shit because it seems like a simple fix, the real problem is the quality of tv screenwriters has gone massively downhill in recent times and these shows especially are known for hiring tons of cheap freelancers to cut costs. The current game plan of star trek is quantity > quality, they make these shows to be generic and inoffensive to cast the widest possible net in the market and fill a slot on Paramount+. People like to say that SNW is better than Discovery, but the bad writing is the same. The only thing that's different about them is the tone and the format. The people who write these don't intentionally set out to make these shows crap they are just untalented hacks and/or don't care.
As for your second point, I have a more likely explanation, Cullen is just wrong. I can't say for sure because I don't watch this guys videos, but I guarantee you a lot of people are going to like this last season simply because they got rid of the stupid new characters and brought back the old cast. Doesn't matter if the writing is still garbage, the power of nostalgia bait is strong and it's not hard to make something slightly better than the first 2 seasons of Picard.
One more thing I'd like to mention, season 2 and 3 of Picard were shot back to back, so don't think that they've been listening to any criticism of season 2 and working to do better. Season 3 was already written and filmed before 2 was airing, so why would it be any different?
It's being promoted for Paramount+ and Amazon Prime so yeah. No need to pirate for me, I guess.Dave did say it would be on Amazon too IIRC.
I got the impression from RMB that he wasn't given a screener, nor would he, but he somehow acquired it. He does know people. Also, he claims to have seen the entire 10-episode season while Cullen has only seen a few episodes. However...Also, in my experience at least, people who are shown exclusive previews are generally much more positive about the product.
Robert Meyer Burnett is a fucking weasel and permanent barnacle on the Star Trek franchise who is only on YouTube being chummy with a bunch of people who have right-of-center views because he can't get work anymore. He basically showed-up, sucked the Fandom Menace's ass for a few months and now does 4-hour livestreams reading long fan letters like he's a Z-list celeb with a public access TV show (as-if reading superchats wasn't bad enough). That said, he does have pretty decent takes on Star Trek generally (despite being annoying and phony) and while I wouldn't put it past him to lie or exaggerate, Cullen backing him up adds more credence to it being decent.I got the distinct feeling Robert Meyer Burnett was selling me something, not giving an honest review.
Paramount's coverage is pretty much like EA's 2017 E3 coverage. Both doing great jobs at doing Jeb Bush impressions. It's being promoted for Paramount+ and Amazon Prime so yeah. No need to pirate for me, I guess.

I could see RMB having some gambit at play with the showrunner Terry Matalas, maybe thinking about the future of the franchise, but I don't see why Dave Cullen would lie. This is a guy who got catfished essentially by Strange New Worlds and abruptly quit his reviews in a huff when he found out the little minx femme fatale in the catsuit was played by a dude. He has every reason to give zero shits for a played-out Picard on it's last season, all things being equal.
I wasn't blown-away by the trailer. It looks like more of the same. But as a best-possible nuTrek take on the TNG crew, I can remain hopeful just based on Paramount showing the fleeting ability to, if not make good Star Trek, at least make decent TV occasionally. I thought parts of SNW were ok and Capt. Rios on Picard wasn't a bad character. Maybe if we squint we'll get a few decent scenes. I dunno. I have no delusions that this will be a return to form, though. I mean, this is still what we're dealing with:

Miserable, dreary and unwatchably bad.ca.yahoo.com
I'm leaning toward money. The reviewer might be a journo but it sounds pretty par for the course and like season 3 is going to be utter shit
and before anyone defends cullen lets not forget his real interesting history with the likes of based mama and lending his name to the killroy shit
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be riding my high horse by dancing on the show's grave.![]()
