I was never excited to begin with and The Orville has already ended (albeit in a pretty rushed way). In terms of sci-fi material, I have nothing to watch with, sadly, the Hulu Futurama revival to look forward to.
I'm holding out for a DS9 remaster, then I can finally bury my TV for good.

I'd be surprised if we see a DS9 remaster , in physical format anyways. Probably see Voyager first , what with Prodigy ( Janeway , Chakotay ) and Picard ( Dyke of Nine )

"They" officially announced last year or two years ago that there won't be a DS9 remaster, because it would simply be too expensive/ wouldn't sell enough copies to make money.

I haven't seen the 4K upgrades to the TNG movies yet , which apparently are already available on HBO Max. Supposedly they removed the piss filter from Generations, which is nice. So, we'll have those meh movies to revisit while we wait for the DS9 & Voyager remaster that aint never fucking happening.

It seems like I read about 10 years ago that they recovered some of the cgi assets for the DS9 and were trying to prep them for an hd remaster. But it seems that those assets were either too corrupt or just not complete enough to be able to use them. So unless someone comes forward with many millions of dollars we're not seeing an hd remaster of DS9 anytime soon. We'll see Avery Brooks come back for a super woke reboot before we see a remaster.....God help us all.

iirc the digital assets of DS9 are mostly intact, and need only slight massaging to be brought up to CURRENT YEAR, but between the not-so-hot sales of remasters of TOS and TNG there's no real impetus for them to be done commercially

Maybe if they hadn't of changed so much shit with TOS...

honestly I still like TOS remix
throwing in some random TAS designs instead of "blob of light" and the ep with Trelane where they made it more clear that the planets were heading towards the ship, I generally don't mind it
ngl it's not the OG "giant blobs of light everywhere zap ray" style but still

The TOS and TNG remaster were done because HD TV was still new and networks were desperate for HD content, as well as the DVD/Blu-Ray markets being a strong pre-streaming era. That's gone away now. They apparently don't see the financial incentive. Would it bring them in any more money on their syndication deals?

The only real financial argument would probably be a long-term investment in the franchise. Ensuring all the shows will look good further into the future. The SD looks pretty bad on big 4K TVs. I'm sure it'd be cheaper for them to remaster them now, than in 20 years but having said that. What will digital unscaling be like in 20 years?

I assume that's going to be what happens with SD shows in the future.

And if it's really that good, I highly doubt that they'll get "that's what you guys should've been doing in the first place" message.

We simply don't know. I get the instinct to just stop watching, but if they change to good content and people don't watch. All that guarantees is that they won't get the message to make good content.

Indeed. I mean, the "haters" are coming out and saying, "Hey, it's actually good." There's feedback that Terry Matalas knows what he's doing and is a genuine fan. Will they actually heed this? I mean, they could always save face and just produce a new show featuring that one actor that RMB and Dave Cullen were praising who I assume is "Picard Jr." and give what the fans want, saying "This is for them, Discovery is for you, Prodigy is for kids... Star Trek for everyone!"

Even though Star Trek is supposed to be for everyone singularly.

However, I don't think Kurtzman will get the message, or his pride'll be wounded and we'll end up getting ten more seasons of Discovery.

You know, for the budget of a couple episodes of Picard, you could actually remaster ALL of DS9. I don't want to hear about the disc sales. They were too expensive, and physical is a dying medium. Just hype them up on a streaming service. Come on, you KNOW people would sign up for that.

It's where they should get creative about the possibilities of streaming. Conventional logic would be to put a season up at a time. Yet what if they released episodes weekly for a remaster? Or in batches. That would probably encourage more people to engage in a rewatch.

Discovery can only go a couple of more seasons until Tilly gets too fit on set.

My girlfriend who doesn't watch any of this Trek stuff, doesn't like woke shit. Once said to me, "You never told me there was an obese crew member in Star Trek Discovery." She randomly stumbled upon a picture of Tilly. lol

Honestly I'd like to see the cgi done with current tech, especially the battles scenes. I think a lot of them could be enhanced by using whatever cgi they could afford. Although a lot of the space scenes in Picard looked like ass.

iirc the major issues are
a) the models are a little jank around the edges if you blow them up to HD style, but really not _that_ bad
b) you'd have to redo the scripting or whatever you call it relating to the shots, I think I heard the basic code of "the spaceship veers to the left and fires a beam" is either lost or incompatible with modern systems
