They have hired a new composer for this season. The score is way better. The music - stealing the music of Horner and Goldsmith gives it more of a Star Trek feel. Much better than the shit they had before
I had to pause after that scene when Picard told Riker to shut it. The timing was excellent, you could see that Frakes is enjoying playing that character again instead of that weird Riker from the past two seasons. The banter on the bridge of the titan before taking her out.
Jean-Luc is a fag, Robert would have puched the Captain in the face. That scene with the captain of the titan insulting picards wine definitely went over alot friendlier than I would have expected. My grandfather had a vineyard and produced his own wine on a large scale and if somebody had said something like that to him holy shit that would not have caused a shitshow. You do not insult the work of somebody who puts the kind of effort in it takes to make a quality wine like that and expect a nice response from it
I'm wondering if he has a grudge against both 7 and Picard. Perhaps he lost family at Wolf 359 or the battle of the Typhon Sector. I do wonder if that's gonna be expanded on later. Would be interesting to see instead of him just being an asshole. Please just don't leave that thread hanging writers! But this Captain Shaw? Really? Who does he think he is? He probably dodged frontline assignment during the Dominion War, that cheeky little cunt. Shitting on Picard's wine and farting all over Riker's accomplishments as an Starfleet officer, knowing full well that at least Riker could pull seniority over this twat, is just outright insulting. And then refering to both 7 and Picard as ex-Borg? What is your fucking problem, Ensign Shaw? Listen here, asshole, Picard, Riker and 7 fought the Borg when it was FUCKING HARD fighting them. Get in that Jeffreis tube, back to the other children you bullshit artist. It's like the writers, like the nihilistic midwit assholes they are, don't want any of them to have a great legacy, going even so far to have Picard say as much.
It's nice to see some different ship design rather than the copy paste from season 1, but everything seems to be an evolution from the original movies design rather than the next stage after DS9. Nostaliga bait I guessI'm wondering if he has a grudge against both 7 and Picard. Perhaps he lost family at Wolf 359 or the battle of the Typhon Sector. Also the stuff with the deadnaming is kind of retarded and in my opinion a little too subtle for me to really believe it. In universe 7 really was a borg and her actions as a borg are well expanded upon in Voyager. Not really sure how you can compare that to trannies getting called the wrong thing in the real world. Then again most tranny trash lives in a fictional universe much like Star Trek.
Damn that ending credits score really turned up the nostalgia for me, have to say I liked it quite a bit along with the rest of the musical score for this episode.
Overall the cgi seemed a bit better than previous seasons. The sound design also caught my ear, specifically the weapons fire. Ever since the first JJ trek the phasers and weapon sounds have been super weak and too "pew pewy" for my tastes.
I give this episode a ok/10 not the worst opener and not the best either. Thank fuck my coworker gave me access to his plex server 'cause now I won't have to even worry about my P+ account expiring.
Well, Sisko clearly was pissed at Picard back in the day since he lost his wife and nearly his son at Wolf 359. But, the difference is that Sisko managed himself well enough to get over the short meeting with Picard quick enough without causing a disaster. As a mere Commander he couldn't have sperged out at a superior officer. Anyway, I suspect Shaw is just one of these career officers that is content with doing everything by the book and actively avoids situations that require heavy bending of the rules. Hences, my suspicion he never saw combat, never had to save crewmembers, never was forced to make difficult choices beyond the norm and never had to save the Federation singlehandedly.I'm wondering if he has a grudge against both 7 and Picard. Perhaps he lost family at Wolf 359 or the battle of the Typhon Sector. I do wonder if that's gonna be expanded on later. Would be interesting to see instead of him just being an asshole. Well, that is the thing isn't it: for all its flaws, VOY did a much better job at integrating an ex-Borg into the crew of a starship. And none of that strikes me, even today, as connected to some IRL-political issue. But nu-Trek must have all of this current year-nonsense in it, for whatever crappy reason. It's not like Trek never did that, but it was done - usually- with respect to the audience and with few exceptions never came across as preachy, autistic or retarded. Also the stuff with the deadnaming is kind of retarded and in my opinion a little too subtle for me to really believe it. This particularly stood out to me. How many Starfleet officers do you think get to do this?never had to save the Federation singlehandedly.
Every single main character in the shows did Federation-saving stunts between two meals. Just extrapolate from there. This particularly stood out to me. How many Starfleet officers do you think get to do this?
That's a handful of officers. Starfleet has how much personnel?Every single main character in the shows did Federation-saving stunts between two meals. Just extrapolate from there.
Between 1 and several hundred million, I guess. That's a handful of officers. Starfleet has how much personnel?
So I think it's fair to say random asshole officer never had to save the world / Federation / galaxy singlehandedly and not hold it against them.Between 1 and several hundred million, I guess.
Well, it depends. The thing is, if Captain Asshole is the successor of some high-profile Captain that served a long time under a living legend, then you can expect Starfleet Command will imply that Captain Asshole must do some quite impressive work in future, in particular if the ship he commands is a flagship, which is likely the case with the Titan. Now, there's the question how Asshole got so far in the chain of command. I suspect nepotism. And that would indeed make for a plotline we haven't seen in Trek in many, many years. So I think it's fair to say random asshole officer never had to save the world / Federation / galaxy singlehandedly and not hold it against them.
The ones in charge take all the credit, though. And many of them did good deeds to save their own asses, but not the whole Starfleet, only the crew.Every single main character in the shows did Federation-saving stunts between two meals. Just extrapolate from there.
Tend to agree, but this raises the question what the people who outrank all of them did to earn their fancy amidral-ranks.The ones in charge take all the credit, though. And many of them did good deeds to save their own asses, but not the whole Starfleet, only the crew.
So, you have Kirk, Picard, Sisko, and Janeway.
Their main crews are about ten people each, so it's 40 more people.
Add some minor one-shot characters who could have directly helped during the episode, you have 100 at most.
That's not even 150 people in about 80 years of history that have save Starfleet and perhaps the whole Federation, one way or another.
Probably the old fashioned way, backstabbing their contemporaries and politicking.Tend to agree, but this raises the question what the people who outrank all of them did to earn their fancy amidral-ranks.
Being around enough time to grant the rank.Tend to agree, but this raises the question what the people who outrank all of them did to earn their fancy amidral-ranks.
Likely; evidence for that is the recurring theme of some Starfleet admirals being closet supervillains that at least do shady/illegal stuff (Pressman) or are willing to outright coup the civilian government (Leyton). Seriously, I wouldn't mind a very short series about the upper echelon/command structure of Starfleet, at all. Give me all the incompetence, nepotism, scheming, evil deeds, bribes and what you have, Paramount, I'm into that shit-Probably the old fashioned way, backstabbing their contemporaries and politicking.
