iirc baked works on phones?
pretty sure Quarks-Bar runs off the google drive trick, and last I heard phones don't support that (although firefox used to)

so back to Crys, what about like, an Ideon sort of thing, there's a ship assigned to follow it around, keep it fed by inverting the bullshitrion fields through the replicators or whatever, and generally tard wrangle it away from civilized worlds, but then as the Dominion War heats up they get called up to use him as an active weapon and he starts to get out of control after feeding on real living things again instead of fedslop

Or it feeds on a bunch of Jem'Hadar and then gets high off all the Ketrichel White in their system.

Just finished up S5E5, Disaster. The ship gets hit by a quantum filament, which is totally not a cosmic string, Keiko has her hapa potato spawn, and Worf stares at a pussy and his tricorder awkwardly as he works as the quadrant's greatest midworf, and we are all reminded that at any time they could just carry Data around like a football.

Really solid episode, good set of challenges for everyone, Picard had to overcome his discomfort around little kids, Riker didn't really do anything of note besides plugging Data's head into the engineering computer, and we got to see what a bad idea it would be to put Troi in charge. Ensign Ro made another appearance, very happy to see her again, I thought she'd be a one-and-done but no she's up there with a meaty recurring role.

Next up is The Game, which I am assuming is an episode about a space PUA.

Minor future spoiler, but Major Kira from DS9 was originally going to be Ro, the actress didn't want to do it iirc so they rewrote it.

I love the call back to this in DS9 when O'Brien says he's having another kid and Worf says "Now!?" and looks around worriedly.
 
Oh god The Game was a Wesley episode. Got to see super young Ashley Judd, but I just skipped through all the Wesley scenes, which ended up being most of it. Luckily Data had a handy flashlight thing or they'd have all been enslaved by the scrotum forehead people of Scrotus 4.

Also, how did Patrick Stewart get a new costume before everyone else? I know they made the show on the cheap but clearly the polyester onesie was uncomfortable, did they genuinely not have enough money to rewardrobe everyone? Or was Stewart the only one complaining.

It is kind of funny how bad Gene Roddenberry was at world-building. Like this crystalline entity thing, yeah it's fun to think about it, but how in the world could such a thing exist in a galaxy with multiple interstellar governments? Especially when it's almost lovecraftian in description and acts? Just have this thing hit a world or two and there would be entire peace treaties formed between Ferengi, Klingons, Romulans and the Federation along with multi ship task forces sent out to hunt the damn thing down. Much less if it hit Dominion or Borg space.

Star Trek is best taken in with bite-sized chunks, as a sort of "scenario of the week" kind of show. Unless they say otherwise, it's better to treat each episode as its own thing, like with Twilight Zone.

If you use your brain and start worrying about how the franchise's world-building works, you'll realize that the whole story has plot holes large enough to fly the Enterprise through.

Troi engaged the impulse engines as soon as Ops informed her they were clear, as per her orders. Then the stardrive blew up and her console went offline. She couldn't do anything after that. Given her orders and the information available to her, Troi is blameless.

Data, at some point, got control of the thrusters. This might have been enough to keep the ship in orbit, but it seems he didn't do anything wit them until they were almost in the dirt and even then he only tried to level their descent. I could blame Data's late action on his emotional lability, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and suggest the links between the ops console and the rest of the ship were so badly damaged that even he couldn't make the ship work until it was nearly aground.

Sneed the Ferengi not only has facial stubble but namechecks the very secret Section 31. At least he's drinking some algae cola. I'd be down for a Sneed show instead of Picard.

Why is Romulan ale still prohibited? I thought that was part of economic sanctions, not because it's toxic or whatever. There is no Romulus any more so maybe it's just unlicensed refugee homebrew that is illegal.

Your predictions are true, Worf is Raffi's handler and baby Crusher is really baby Picard. Amanda Plummer is batshit crazy evil but we don't learn anything about her.

At one point Seven is relieved of duty but then is leading a security team and reporting via comms to the bridge like nothing happened.

Ships do that JJ thing where they drop/pop out of warp with absolutely no deceleration. All the shaky cam makes me wanna puke. It's like they only hired cameramen with palsy. The cg ship textures continue to look less sophisticated than Voyager. Still waiting for Picard to call Riker "number one." Besides Worf's late appearance and the introduction of villain to heroes, we leave this episode very much where we started.

Ok, I'm liking Shaw more and more.

Shit, it's still not the best of trek, but it's far better than anything recent. Am I falling for the low expectations set by previous series? I think I need more booze.

*edit* the ending is pretty good, but why didn't Picard suggest to Shaw earlier about the benefits of a Nebula (aka the Mutara Nebula, and then his own engagement with the Borg)? The raffi bits are still the weakest. So far, this has been the best episode of Picard.
