Yes. The only reason Gene Roddenberry aligned himself with leftism is because he wanted to be able to cheat on his wives and do drugs without criticism.
Read the Star Trek: The Motion Picture novelization to get a chuckle at what Trek would have been like if Gene had complete control.
Alan Dean Foster wrote the TMP novelization, but it definitely seems Roddenberry gave him some notes. The "New Human" thing and the conservative nature of Starfleet were pretty interesting; the love instructors and fuck lounges not so much.

But even the filmed version gives one a pretty good idea of what Gene liked: the empathic sex-goddess reincarnated a sex-bot wandering around the ship in a tiny bathrobe while the crew debates that eternal question, is a woman a person or a mechanism. (Answer: It doesn't matter, as long as you get the girl in the end.)

it's a shoop. Sorry to ruin the fun.

I choose to believe it's two photographs taken in sequence.

The franchise so far

TOS - Known as simple fun, goofy at times (too goofy for me personally).
TOS (movies) - Kino
TNG - Regarded as one of the best TV shows.
TNG (movies) - Some like them but most find them lame
DS9 - Decent drama, decent action, but some characters are butchered along the way.
VOYAGER - Generally good, also noted for its original and creative concepts. Introduced poz into the franchise.
ENTERPRISE - Takes place before TOS. Had some really good episodes and it fell apart with an abrupt ending, because the CEO of Paramount didn't like Star Trek, which of course gives him the right to take it away from the millions who enjoyed it. Expanded on Voyager's poz.
NUTREK - Cancer.

Some episodes in Voyager and Enteprise can be easily skipped to the benefit of your viewing experience. I decided to create a list of those episodes for people diving into the shows. I suffered though the rough parts, so that you don't have to.

Skip Trek: Voyager
Season 1: E16 Learning Curve (boring)
Season 2: E5 Non Sequitur, E9 Tattoo, E22 Innocence
Season 3: E6 Remember, E8 & E9 Future's End (Sarah Silverman cameo), E16 Blood Fever, E23 Distant Origin
Season 4: E18 & 19 The Killing Game (WW2 action movie in Star Trek, watch if that sounds like fun to you)
Season 5: E23 11:59 (boring)
Season 6: Nothing that stands out as awful
Season 7: E8 Nightingale (kill Harry Kim), E9 & E10 Flesh and Blood (holograms don't deserve rights), E18 Human Error, E22 Natural Law

Skip Trek: Enterprise
Season 1: E6 Terra Nova, E18 Rogue Planet, E21 Detained,
Season 2: E7 The Communicator, E14 Stigma, E20 Horizon, E21 The Breach, E22 Cogenitor
Season 3: Just skip the last 5 minutes of the final episode.
Season 4: E1 & E2 Stormfront (expands on those horrible 5 minutes of the previous episode), E10 Deadalus, E20 Demons, E21 Terra Prime

only a few parts are incredibly goofy to the point of it being a bit cringe, most of the show tends to be fun but also at times a serious scifi show. i defend TOS as the best trek.
TOS (movies) - Kino
yep, maybe not V though.
TNG - Regarded as one of the best TV shows.
pretty good, not going to lie. there are some rough and some stupid episodes though, but otherwise good.

i tend to find them all pretty lame. mike stoklassa and my name sake speak for me on these.
DS9 - Decent drama, decent action, but some characters are butchered along the way.
agreed. id also agree there are probably a few episode you can skip and not lose much for the overall narrative. this is especially the case if you just a synopsis with spoilers for those episodes. maybe we need a list for those like these above.

as for the others, cant say ive watched them. seen bits of voyager and enterprise and it never held my attention. i can neither confirm nor deny your list.

i wont even give nutrek the time of the day.

All Ferengi episodes besides The Magnificent Ferengi should be skipped. Because the Ferengi were the writers' stand-in for jews, their episodes get super fucking preachy.

Tng has a pretty notorious weak start. The first 2 seasons are ok but pale in comparison to seasons 3-6's incredible quality. You can genuinely just jump right into the middle and just get peak television, sure you might miss some context on stuff like the borg, Q, or Tasha yar but if it important to the episode the show is written well enough to get you up to speed in that episode. Just remeber if Riker doesn't have a beard yet it's probably a weak episode.
Tos and tng are great enough for a full watch though but remeber they where always designed for syndication so if you haven't given it a chance yet just dive into a episode that sound good.
Haven't really watched past season 1 of ds9 so don't know if thats case with those shows.

Wrong. Deadalus and Terra Prime are really good episodes. Terra Prime marks also the birth of the coalition of planets.

yeah, anything involving moogie especially is trash.
MOOOOGIIIIIIIE (I bet you read that with Rom's voice)

Excellent thread. I personally wouldn't skip any episodes, just take the good with the bad, but a few i definitely had trouble waiting for it to be over. Voyager's ww2 episodes were dumb as shit.

I need to sit down and go over the summary of each episode of each series to really give any feedback as my memory is pretty shit.

Is this the episode with the crack squad of Ferengi doing some SEAL team 6 shit? I loved that episode.

Yes, they tried for about 2 hours and gave up when they realized they were terrible at it. Which makes sense because of course a restaurant owner, his idiot brother, an auditor, and a former arms dealer (not user) are terrible at fighting. I don't think I'd do any better.

"And you shot Moogie!"

"She was already dead! I was doing her a favor."

Seeing this thread reminded me that I had these guides saved on a hard drive. Can't find the one for Voyager though.

This guide appears to be very biased, especially against 'racist' or 'homophobic' episodes. Also ignores some real bad ones from DS9, while calling other episodes that can easily be found
enjoyable bad.

I think that these are the episodes that will hinder your enjoyment the most if you're diving into the shows. I thought of expanding into DS9, but the problem with DS9 is that a lot of the bad storylines (the Dukat/Kai Winn storyline for example) are integrated into important episodes. You'd have to edit parts of the episodes out to be able to skip them..

Thankfully that's not the case with Voyager and Enterpise, and you can freely avoid the insufferable parts.

Excellent idea for a thread. I just got into Star Trek earlier in the year, watched most of TNG, and it became one of my favorite shows of all time.

It's kind of amazing how up-and-down Star Trek can be. One episode can be fantastic, the next can be a stinker. Even TNG has that going on, though most of the show is terrific. It is also intimidating as all hell to jump into Star Trek and find that I've got 28 American-sized seasons (30 if you count TAS) to watch, plus ten movies, and every last bit of it is autistically well documented.

They are just some guides that I saved around 2014. They are flawed, but the content reminder does jog my memory if I happen to forget what an episode was about. Some of them are even funny like the one for the Wire.

Yeah you can see some of the early warning signs of the genderspecial ideology creeping into modern sci-fi with the snide comments on a few of the synopses. Although the TNG episode "Code Of Honor" was blatantly over the top, I even noticed that watching reruns in the early 90's as a kid.

WARNING: STAR TREK SPERG INCOMING!

To me, my favorite will always be TNG. As a rule, I tell people that the first season is rough, and Wesley at his most insufferable, and if you can't watch every episode, at a minimum, you have to see the first episode, "Encounter At Farpoint" all of the ones with Q, "Datalore", and "The Naked Now" and "Skin of Evil" to get familiarized with Tasha Yar. I definitely agree that "Growing The Beard" earned it's place as a catchphrase with TNG from season 2 and onward. Likewise with Q, every episode that had Guinan was guaranteed to be a great one. Same with any that had TOS character cameos. Majel Barrett was good, I just hated her character as Lwaxanna Troi. The same with the new doctor that replaced Crusher in season 2.

I know that before the dumpster fire known as "NuTrek" Voyager got shit-on regularly as the worst series, but I just look at it as more of an "Alien/Crisis of the week" show. Some episodes were autistically dumb, like the one where they devolve into lizards, or had "improbable even for sci-fi" premises like the one where they got a radio signal from an old Ford truck on the other side of the galaxy, and end up finding Amelia Earheart...🙄 But there were some really great episodes and overarching character arcs throughout the series that were among the best Trek, IMO. The Doctor probably had the biggest character growth on STV, and 7 of 9 as well although she was a bit of a Mary Sue at times. I know Neelix got alot of hate from fans at the time but I didn't mind the character. They could have got rid of both Kes and Harry Kim and they wouldn't have been missed, IMO. Some episodes like the 2 parters where they all lost their memories and were workers on a planet, or "Year of Hell" with Red Foreman as the enemy were top tier. "Tuvix" was probably some of the best writing in all of Star Trek.

I really should watch DS9, I never really got into it growing up, but the few episodes I do remember seeing were pretty good.

Don't forget Star Trek Continues. Vic Mignogna plays Kirk and it is the only Star Trek Fan Series with good enough production quality to watch. For me honestly Star Trek Continues holds up production quality and acting wise better than a lot of TOS and TNG. Also it has an amazing continuation of "Mirror Mirror" called "Fairest of them All". I really recomend it if you can deal with the actors being different than TOS. If you like it try the rest of Star Trek Continues.
