A relatively good job casting, which is something I rarely see in Hollywood these days. While watching Stargate or any 90s TV show, casting for character actors was superb. Got lots of differently shaped people playing all kinds of different roles. Today, actors are either 50 because they made it big in the 20th century or generic college students that can only play teenagers well. Sure, this particular picture shows college grads, but that's because the characters themselves are like that and there's no fixing it now.

Picard season 3 only works as well as it does because of casting decisions made 30 years ago.

Yea drawn it's not nearly as jarring. Maybe it would have looked better if they used an off white or even grey.

At least in live action it was just the gloss that was purple. Not fully purple. So a lot of the time he just looked like someone with a bad black dye job.

I only watched the first episode of Lower Decks. I have heard people claim the show is good. No idea. I thought the episode was fine. The SNW cast standing around constantly thinking, "you guys are fucking retarded babies" at the animated characters was a bit of a self own.

SF Debris in his review flat out said, multiple times to skip the first two episodes of LD. That they were some of the worst television he had seen since TNG s1 and to definitely start the show at episode 3.

I haven't tried it yet but that does seem to be a consensus among fans.
 
The only kind of people that watch lower decks are the same kind of subhuman retards that lick the gaps in the sidewalk.

Also for clarity.

When I said, "the episode was fine." I was talking about this weeks SNW. Not the first episode of LD. Hence why I watched no more.
 
If you're incredibly autistic then Lower Decks will only make you angry, i.e. Dave Cullen. It's not the greatest star trek series ever but you can tell the writers have actually watched more than just some best of clips on youtube. The show runner was the guy behind the TNG Season 8 twitter back in the day. I'd rate it the second best star trek series made under Kikeman after Picard season 3 which isn't saying much.

Who's excited for the musical episode of SNW this week? Fucking christ.

I think I said it before, but I turned around on Lower Decks when they had the skeleton of Giant Spock from TAS hanging from a ceiling as an easter egg. That's a pretty deep fucking cut.

It's not what I'd call a great show, but it's enjoyable on some level. I think both it and Strange New Worlds fall into the "not great but watchable" category. The characterization in both are pretty awful, but they both actually build episodes around some pretty good sci-fi set pieces that are in line with the ones in TOS & TAS. That Strange New Worlds episode where the crew all turn into fairy tale characters and the ship changes to resemble a medieval kingdom is something they could have ripped straight out of TOS. Like, I'd never go out of my way to see LD & SNW. They aren't can't miss TV. Like you say, though, they aren't offensively bad unless you have the tism and Spock being out of character is going to send you into a fit of rage.

I think there's a fine line between, "This is poorly written. I do not enjoy this characterization," and totally losing your sperghetti. If I wasn't able to accept merely OK TV shows with some issues, I wouldn't have watched anything new for the last decade plus. I'm too old to actually get angry about TV shows and movies.
 
I think the problem was the protagonist in the first couple of episodes was annoying as fuck. I never got past those, but I hear it gets better. Apart from the main character being an annoying cunt, it was pretty on point for being Star Trek-ish. If they toned down is it Mariner, then it could be quite good.
