Straight Outta Starfleet
Crazy muthafucka named T. Kirk
From tha ship named Earthlinz Wit Attitude

Watch the DS9 episode with Quark's ex shows up on the station.

Man I miss the days when the show had sharp writing and amazing talent to deliver it.

I'm very slowly rewatching some Voyager, and while everything has been said about what could make it better this one sticks with me. I really wish they could have kept Brad Dourif as a minor recurring character, the guy is such a good actor and had a great character I thought. Giving him the same treatment as Barclay where he could just show up every once in a while would have been great.

Gary Graham who played Soval on Enterprise past away yesterday. Soval was one of those characters that I actually grew to like during subsequent rewatches and a lot of that was due to Graham's perfomance. Rest in peace.

iirc they let him go out with a bang and used it him where appropriate, nice touch at least.

He showed up for 3 episodes with the last two being the season finale and opener, and his character had a good arc to closed things off well. I just wanted more Brad Dourif.

So after I finished DS9 I've been rewatching some Babylon 5 and it is amazing.

Up to season 3, somewhat binging it. Middle of the shadow war. Earth is splintering. Everything is going to hell. A bit to relatable, but fun.

Rewatching Voyager a little.

Some points I wanted to note. Voyager does have more continuity-at least in terms of referencing prior material and keeping stuff like Tom being an ensign for a season after Thirty Days.

Best Voyager Season is definitely Season 4. Season 5 is about as good, but the show starts spinning the wheels by the end of season 6.

Voyager takes a lot of shortcuts.

Kes sending them 10,000 light years
The catapult
Quantum slipstream
borg transwarp coil
slipstream
Q giving them a path that cut a few years off
Seven getting a better route via creating Astrometrics-cutting about five years off.

So much so that by Season 7-Voyager is in semi regular contact with Starfleet, and is "thirty five thousand" light years away.

People criticizing the show's premise don't seem to remember that at the end of Caretaker-Janeway says outright they will be looking for shortcuts wherever possible. Its not a generation ship.

In the timeline before Admiral Janeway changed things-it takes them 23 years to get home.

With constant technological improvement throughout. Which creates a problem-if you want a gritty BSG style show, you can't have a crew getting these sorts of shortcuts, tech upgrades, and pushing forward and farther on a constant basis. But then this is a Starfleet crew with the skillset and discipline that entails.

don't think people have much of a problem with that, because as you said it makes sense and was easy to explain.
it's more stuff like future lizard people, characters going nowhere, borderline (war)-criminal janeway (RIP tuvix) and general muddled writing more often than not.

voyager is just a series where when it worked it worked really well, but when it didn't... ho boy. airing right after TNG and DS9 just made that more obvious. "trekkies" being borderline retarded with NOT MUH TNG/DS9 didn't help either, see ENT.
