I had a "shower thought" that Star Trek Prodigy might be good, only because I haven't heard anybody say it's dogshit--or anything at all about it which is probably why it was cancelled. All I remember from the preview is the cast of looked completely out of place for Trek and I imagined it would be too juvenile.

Anybody took the plunge?

I've not even heard any of the reviewers I normally watch touch it. Not even SFDebris and he reviewed much of the OG animated series.

Outside of Picard Season 3 it's the best official Trek show since ENT IMO and I like SNW. When they add modern diversity, it makes sense they have a non-binary character, but the character is a medusan meaning a living cloud so yes gender wouldn't make sense for them to have. The Characters are likeable a plus in modern Trek and the show serves as a proper sequel to VOY especially season 2 with Janeway and Chakotay playing major rules and the Doctor shows up in season 2 IMO Chakotay in season 2 has maybe his best story ever. They also introduce in season 2 the Voyager-A since the classic Voyager is now a museum ship. They even brought back for some guest appearance Okona from the Season 2 of TNG episode the Outrageous Okona. Wesley is brought back in Season 2 and to the shows credit less annoying than he was in TNG and since it's animation the character doesn't suffer from Wil's annoying smug face that you just want to punch. Jellico voiced by Ronny Cox is back in Season 2 as an Admiral. The show balances having full season story arcs while also having an episodic nature. You can tell from the deep dives and adherence to canon the show's creators are fans of pre-kurtzman and JJ trek much like Lower Decks does except this show has none of the Rick and Morty type of Humor.

The Style at first seems very untrek but as it continues it becomes very Trek with one episode being a love letter to TOS and it's look that episode is all the world's a stage.

The show IMO is a worthy successor to VOY and entry into Trek.

I watched both seasons and it's pretty shit. The first half of season 1 is clearly a different show that was retooled to be a Star Trek show. The characters are all annoying, they do some key jangling with Okona and probably some other characters that I forgot. Season 2 is boring and has Wesley Crusher as a shitty Doctor Who rip-off. It feels like he's trying to be David Tennet's Doctor and failed miserably. The only bright spot is the EMH because Robert Picardo has still got voice acting talent. They dragged out the actor who played the based Capt. Jericho and he sounds old as fuck.

Prodigy is shit but better than Discovery and the first two seasons of Picard. It's like asking if you want explosive diarrhea from eating Taco Bell or from eating at an actual Mexican restaurant.

Speaking of sounding old as fuck, the most recent STO episode with denise crosby shows shes really starting to age. Shes got serious old lady voice going on to the point it was very, very noticeable

like I said about Billy West in the Ren And Stimpy Revival discussion
Nothing makes somebody sound over thirty years older like over thirty years passing by.

So Tony Todd has died. I absolutely hated what they did to Kurn on DS9. Part of me always hoped that lobotomy they gave him would get cured in future storylines. That will never happen now.

It did, but I don't think STO is canon. I tried to get back into STO a couple years ago when they did the Gamma expansion and he did voice work for the game.

In any event, Kurn was the better Son of Mogh. Worf was way to emo for a Klink. I like Worf, but Kurn was the better Klingon.

Worf would never allow himself to get dishonored a second time, especially with Alexander and Kurn involved. That's why that DS9 storyline pissed me off so much. It often felt like DS9 Worf was a separate character from TNG Worf.

Not only was that lobotomy mindwipe completely unethical by both Federation and Klingon standards, but it will be immediately obvious at his next checkup that his DNA doesn't match his adoptive families.

Up until somewhat recently STO fell into the "official but not canon" category. Only "canon" bits of STO are the ships and other odds and ends Kurtzman's Trek had taken. After scrubbing the established lore of said ships and other odds and ends to make them fit into Kurtzman Trek. All of the above also to ships, people and etc. from various books, games (VG and tabletop) which got pilfered into Kurtzman Trek.

From what I seen the original studio and the player base are/were perfectly happy STO was not the Prime or JJ timeline but rather it's own timeline somewhere along side them.
