I heard people say that Strange New Worlds is ok, I tried to watch one episode (the Balance of Terror rip-off), to me it's just STD with other characters. The tone is all over the place and never feels like Star Trek.
Yeah, the tone is off. I can even forgive the tone but it doesn't even feel like Star Trek on an aesthetic level. None of the new shit post-JJ feels like Star Trek on an aesthetic level.

We need to go back to cheap-looking soundstages and the budget blown on good actors and costuming.

Pre-Moogie or post-moogie Ferengi?
The answer is yes, because Quark will defend Ferengi values and traditions until his final breath.
Imagine the cool Trill episodes if Terry Farrel had been able to actually act.
I like my eye candy the way it is, thank you. However, you're right. Trill stuff is outright spooky and worth to be fleshed out.

Nobody dares to talk about that god-awful Section 31 trailer?
Had to dig through the thread and catch up, but I wanted to answer this:

No one cares. No one cares about Trek except the delusional hyperconsoom fans who will watch whatever slop Paramount puts in front of them. No one, and I mean no one, cares about this shit. Any good will that had existed in hopes of "something good" has been squashed with THREE live-action shows that have failed to hit the mark consistently (or, in the case of Picard, at all) and the entire franchise would benefit from run into the ground and then sold off to someone else, who can maybe pretend like the last 15 years of Star Trek content simply never happened.

But on other things. Nobody dares to talk about that god-awful Section 31 trailer? I'd legit love for William Sadler to murder all these fools.

Well after a month that trailers been ratioed to the mirror universe so I'm pretty confident the only people who are gonna be watching the movie are the lowest tier redditors and youtubers hate watching it so they can review it. Otherwise, the normies probably won't even bother.

Exactly. Who is this even supposed to appeal to?

Normgroids who aren't really into Star Trek look at this and it instantly screams "cinematic-universe-slop" along the lines of the horseshit that Disney has put out for Marvel and Star Wars. Self-referential in all the bad ways, devoid of character, and "grimdark" with "realism." Why watch this when you could watch literally anything else? It's so same-y as every other franchise television show that has been put out? Actual Trekkies are still seething over STD, and have (in my case, anyway) only watched SNW and Picard because I was hoping they'd reverse course (they didn't) and to be frank Paramount doesn't care about these people or making shit for them anyway and hasn't since 2009.

So who is going to watch this? The rabid franchise-fanatics on r/StarTrek? Consoomdrones who will watch literally anything? Star Wars has already proven that you can't run a franchise like this, built on pure writers' room spite for the foundational writing that made the franchise great in the first place and contempt for the audience that actually love it. Eventually doing the multi-million dollar equivalent of ragebaiting on Twitter runs out. How much did Disney sink into The Acolyte? Now things are different in both directions: Paramount/CBS didn't buy the IP for an inflated price and they've had it since 1966, but Disney also has far deeper pockets to blow on their franchise.

I think the only reason there were so many was because Armin Shimerman was such a great actor. Imagine the cool Trill episodes if Terry Farrel had been able to actually act.
Shimerman definitely elevates the Ferengi material; he made it work.

Farrell did for the Trill what Beltran did for the Indians.

and recreated "The Cage" Enterprise and uniforms and set design
#Metoo killed that, all the women running around in miniskirts while the men do all the work and let the negress answer the phones.
Yep, that's an essay written by a typical English graduate in Current Year. I probably would have written something like this when I was in school.
its not our fault, i explictly remember calling out how insane critical theory is way back in middle school only for my step parents to go "a C- in English? but you speak english" like a bunch of literal retards.
All Mike wrote was Doctor Who + Quantum Leap. Granted, it's better than Current Doctor Who because it's actually about an elderly Englishman showing children around time, but creative, it was not.
Mike has shitty ideas in general and isn't called out for how below-cable tier his ideas are

Yeah, being able to read the English teacher is how you get As in classes. Not all teachers are onboard with wokeness, but a lot of them are. Generally, if they're the type to stop lectures to complain about Current Year problems, that teacher is going to be biased.

Also, meticulous MLA citations, but that only goes so far.

Promoting JJ Abrams is the worst idea he had. For one, when he made that recommendation he was using Star Trek 09 as a positive example. To quote William Shatner, "It is a tale told by an idiot. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Just by watching that movie alone, one can reasonably expect JJ Star Wars to be more of the same, which it was. Now both franchises are dead brands.

What does Terry Matalas do? Use First Contact as a template for Season 3 of Picard and that's the season fans like. And yes, I complained that it's memberberries, but in fairness, it came after the first two seasons of Picard, so I understand why fans eat them. You know, one of the movies Mike thought was bad.

Yeah, the tone is off. I can even forgive the tone but it doesn't even feel like Star Trek on an aesthetic level. None of the new shit post-JJ feels like Star Trek on an aesthetic level.
The only thing that came close is the cartoon, mostly by dint of being set right after the TNG era. It's part of why I like it*, and probably why it got cancelled so abruptly; its close resemblance to real trek made it a ratings hit compared to everything else, which in turn made it a threat to kurtzman's control of the franchise and his slavish adherence to the "everything must be dark and neon" demands of CBS and co.

*I am a sucker for memberberries.

they should have hired the Miikshi people to do more TAS stuff

Rick Berman hired her for attributes other than acting
Dax performer Terry Farrell herself, however, has described Berman in The Fifty-Year Mission: The Next 25 Years as a misogynist who frequently criticized her appearance. "The problems with my leaving were with Rick Berman. In my opinion, he's just very misogynistic. He'd comment on your bra size not being voluptuous. His secretary had a 36C or something like that, and he would say something about 'Well, you're just, like, flat. Look at Christine over there. She has the perfect breasts right there.' That’s the kind of conversation he would have in front of you. I had to have fittings for Dax to have larger breasts. I think it was double-D or something. I went to see a woman who fits bras for women who need mastectomies; I had to have that fitting. And then I had to go into his office. Michael Piller didn't care about those things, so he wasn't there when you were having all of these crazy fittings with Rick Berman criticizing your hair or how big your breasts were or weren't. That stuff was so intense, especially the first couple of years."

Imagine that happening today, the niggercattle net would collectively shit itself.

if he got a problem with how Jadzia looks the term isn't "misogynist" it's "queermo"

Rick, you're doing it wrong. You comment on those things AFTER you inserted the worm, if at all. Jesus Christ...

Finally got to The Year of Hell. Man, people did not exaggerate. That whole "Janeway running the ship by herself for six months" really cemented the fatal flaw of Voyager. Why should I care about the rest of the crew, when Janeway can just do that? Also, does Seven of Nine ever get less insufferable? I miss Kes. Paris in Sick Bay is boring.
