It's a decent idea, but there's only so much you can do before it gets annoying, like calling phasers "phase pistols", or using hull plating instead of shields.
Having the stun setting at all was a mistake, or at least the way it's executed. As it's a prequel, it's a show where lasers are considered advanced 23rd century weapons, so it should follow that weapons need to be cruder than that. The plasma rifles were a good idea, but only MACOs have them. So, if stun has to be used, it's more like the stun gun in X-com where you have to get close (maybe 10 meters) to use it. Otherwise, weapons should always be treated as lethal.

Ironic because as the show went on ALL weapons became less lethal. At one point Chakotay got hit in the chest and walked it off.

Both. At the same time.
Delaneycore.

Scott Bakula was severely miscast as Archer. The character's supposed to be a strong and commanding man, but Bakula works more as an everyman like in Quantum Leap, Cats Don't Dance, NCIS: New Orleans.
He was great on Enterprise. Archer didn't start as a strong, commanding man, he pretty much only got the job because he was also the son of the man who created the warp drive. He had an optimistic view of space exploration, then he realizes the hard way that you can't go "out there" without a gun. The events of the Delphic Expanse and the Xindi story arc nearly broke him.

Exactly, one of my favorite things about Enterprise was that even the captain character had character development, and a lot of it. If you're coming into ENT from VOY I can imagine how you'd have a bad feeling about his character from the start because Janeway had none, but Archer becomes a lot more interesting.

I don't think Archer was a bad character, but I do think that Scott Bakula was not the right fit. It sometimes felt like I was watching Barry Bostwick as Brad Majors, which I honestly feel bad saying because Scott Bakula is a good actor and - despite all its problems - I liked Enterprise. At least, I liked it more than Voyager.

hahahahahahaha holy shit I will never be able to unsee Archer as an asshole now
Right? There were obviously some great scenes in Enterprise with Bakula (such as him interacting with the Tellarites and pretty much any episode with Shran) and I liked the show enough to finish it, but I could not shake the feeling I was often watching a character that Brad Majors was meant to parody in 1975.

Also, why the fuck didn't the rest of the writers stop Rick Berman from making water polo Archer's sport? That was one of the dumbest fucking decisions I have ever seen. Okay, Picard likes fencing. Cool. Sisko likes baseball. I don't give a fuck what anyone says, the baseball episodes ruled. Janeway played tennis. Tennis is a great international sport. I know water polo has been an Olympic sport since 1900, but come the fuck on. Have him play soccer, or rugby, or literally anything else.

for me water polo isn't an issue so much because of the general wtf of water polo, it's how there's a fuckton of logistical hurdles to make it functionally a part of your tv production and no good punchline
maybe there was going to be something in S7 where his long-term water skills helped him set up Cetacean Ops?
but yeah it seems like a weird not-much-of-a-joke and they never really even followed up on it

and yes DEATH TO THE OPPOSITION!

I liked it, but I went in rejecting any sense of canon and think of it as satire. I don't care what the faggots at Memory Alpha say.
I have to admit the clips I've seen of Lower Decks have a decent batting average for me actually chuckling at the joke they're making, even of they're often pretty easy jokes like using Kirk-fu on monsters like the double overhead axe handle slam
Gundam did a shitload of direct-to-video gag things of "lol that joke you nerds already made, but now we're animating it!" so I can't get too mad at the concept

iirc legends say Shran was going to be main crew by s6, either his ship alongside the Ent or he was weapons officer or something, I forget

Shran the man was the best character of Enterprise. Every time he showed up shit happened and you knew it was gonna be good.
That's just the power of Jeffery Combs.

Really it's a war crime that in multiverse of madness Disney didn't get Jeffery to come in and play an alt dr. strange.

I feel I haven't seen him around as much recently in a lot of things tbh. My first intro to Combs was Rachet from TF Prime, then I found out he was in a shit ton of star trek. He's good at playing hero or villain. Shran was my favorite though. It felt like he really had fun playing that Andorian. I guess he must be getting old by now
