I'm convinced Lower Decks writers just sit around and pull up random articles from Memory Alpha and then try to make jokes out of them.

Also, that s1 episode reminded me of something, I have never seen a main cast member of a TV show get so fucking fat over the course of the show. Don't they have stuff in their contract about that?

Heard she got preggers during shooting and that's why she got so fucking FAT...don't they have stuff in their contract about that?

guess Miller beat me to it

By the way, the actress also came out as "bisexual" right after she had her baby so she knows the game.
So she's an engin-queer?😂👉🥁⚰️

She has been fat since the second season. People at the time were saying that she was pregnant (she wasn't) but that's not an excuse. Most productions have ways to hide the pregnancy of an actress if the character itself is not pregnant (different camera angles, new clothes, props in the frame covering the belly, etc.).

like the times Peg Bundy left for Wanker County and only appeared in the phone booth

The actress who played Kira was pregnant for real when her character was acting as a surrogate for O'Brian's baby and she barely gained any weight at all.
or when Roxann Dawson was pregnant, B'elanna was wearing an engineering jacket over her uniform:

Nana's a dancer, right? Which means she'll stay skinny until she’s 90. Broadway mitochondria.

Mary looks like an open jar of mayo.

You can tell she was a starving actor before she landed that role. Once the "tv" show money starting coming in she started eating good!

Edit: About Nana's baby. It was her child with Alexander Siddig too. They have a joke about it on the show when Kira yells at Dr Bashir because he put that baby in her (HE LITERALLY DID)

I always wondered what up with actors. They never seem to be able to stay married.

Even Nana and Alex were only able to stick it out for like 5 years and Nana has had like 5 husbands.

What is it with actors and shit relationships?

It's the same with people who marry their colleagues in general. You get into awkward situations all the time, and that wears off the magic really quickly. Poof, before you know it: divorce is filed.

The complicating factor for them is: when they do something like DS9, they work a hundred or more hours a week. How are you supposed to keep your marriage stable under those conditions? That'd require some terrific insights and willpower, and go figure, contrary to popular belief: actors have very little of that. Most of those are self-entitled midwits with terribly overinflated egos. The only exception I can think of right now is DeForest Kelley.

Tilly actress just had a baby in 2024, long after she got fat in Discovery. She just got fat because... food, I guess.

Gates McFadden was also pregnant during Season 3 or 4 and they also hid her pregnancy. I think she might have looked a bit bloated, but that's it. It's not healthy to gain that much weight during pregnancy either, so that's not excuse.

Some of them manage to pull it off, don't know how either. I couldn't even get past 5 years and I'm nowhere near being in Hollywood as a career. Isn't Jonathan Frakes still married to his wife? I think they were married right as TNG was starting too.

The younger second wife thing is almost an anglo tradition.

It's not like Europe or Asia where both of you just silently agree the marriage is open.

But yeah, I do get weirdly depressed when celebrity couples break up. Like Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon splitting was this emotionally formative event for me and I didn’t even like her to begin with. My mom has held a grudge against Mary Steenburgen ever since she dumped Malcolm McDowell. (Now she’s with Ted Danson and they’re shockingly stable.)

Aye, that's when she started wearing this blue frock over her uniform. It was designed to hide her belly.

Roxanne got a similar jacket when she got pregnant:

Another dancer who somehow landed on Star Trek. You wouldn’t even notice she was pregnant unless you were really paying attention.

Roxanne Dawson, though. You could tell from her face like a mile away.

Her pregnancy didn’t get worked into the show at the time, but she did eventually have a kid in-universe, so it’s not like the show completely ignored it.
He was a good asshole as Pigvomit in Private Parts and the way he said nigger and abused the slaves he was selling in 12 Years A Slave seemed almost natural.
I only know Beach Boys from documentaries. I don't know how accurate he was, but Giamatti was in that movie with John Cusack as Brian Wilson. Paul played that celebrity shrink who somehow got a cut of the royalties.
