I don’t know what his deal is. Before Star Trek he was doing, what, physical comedy? But Hollywood was like, "you’re funny... but you're only funny...in Isaac Asimov parodies." Or when a gremlin is sucking your dick.

Since then he's appeared in...Atlas Shrugged. I'm surprised he hasn't done a Kirk Cameron movie about an atheist professor.

Don't forget the time he appeared alongside Martin Short in Innerspace. He played an evil cowboy. Looking back, it feels very much like the EMH playing out a bad guy fantasy on the holodeck, only to find the program being sabotaged by a sentient hologram called little neddy knickers.

Not quite, he’s a Libyan hitman. (Like Back to the Future. Remember the Libyans? Classic.) But also somehow a huge film geek. He’s out there cosplaying Clint Eastwood nonstop. So he’s a terrorist who loves America! 1000109034.png And he’s immune to pain for no reason.

The reason they cast him is because Picardo was a rubber-faced funny man. Martin Short shapeshifts into him, so he can make all the weird faces. The whole point of the character is just mugging for the camera.

Janeway and Chakotay still believe her story about the baby and then charge off into the middle of Kazon space to rescue her and lose the ship. How the fuck do you not mutiny against them after that? At least it gave Brad Dourif the chance to play serial killer.

Rule one: No harm ever comes to kids.

Rule two: The Captain always gives the villain a “second chance.” Always. Even though it’s completely meaningless.

Rule three: The Captain is always right. Might act reckless for a second, but by the end of the episode he’s right.

Once you accept the rules, you stop asking why they didn’t just do the obvious thing.

Seriously, remember when we had a plot about how Wesley was so anxious about trying for Starfleet and despite we knew that he was a prodigy, he was still not good enough to be accepted? Alas, Picard wasn't accepted at his first try, IICR. Looks like even a mongoloid could make it during ST Academy time in Star Trek.

Thing is, they could make it funny without making the characters stupid.

That is a joke I'd expect in a Adam Sandler flick. Come the fuck on.

Also finished Enterprise. 2nd watch through. I appreciated it a lot more now than when I was younger honestly. It was a flawed show. But it sincerely tried. Even when they cut the budget in the 4th season, that was when you got the best episodes that also deepened the lore, like the augment virus, or tge start of the Terran Empire. I look at the absolute state of modern trek, and I'm glad I stopped at the Kelvin movies when it got retarded.

I don't know who this appeals to. I know all the easy answers and jokey answers about pronoun'd tumblrinas or whatever, but I am legitimately confused about how this is supposed to generate profit for the studio.

It's just so cringey and so not-Star Trek. I'm not even upset anymore, I'm just confused. I don't get it.

I have no idea what they’re going for, but the same can be said for all of nu-Trek.

Part of me thinks this was a pre-existing script that was repurposed for Star Trek, but more likely it’s simply the product of an awful writers room and out of touch executives.

I don’t even have it in me to be angry about this stuff, all I have left is apathy.
