I remember John being very diplomatic about the whole thing, stopping short of "this episode makes no sense and breaks my character in half.”

So he had to invent a whole fake version of Phlox in his head.

You might be thinking of "A Night in Sickbay". He does the now-classic Star Trek move of punting responsibility by saying, well, you know, maybe old-school fans just weren’t ready for it.

It's the same with Risa episodes. Actors are judging episodes entirely on costumes and per diem.
According to the MA article on the episode, the original script ended with Archer telling Phlox to try and cure the aliens, and then Phlox simply lies and tells him he can't. They leave the species with some medicine that will keep them alive for a couple more generations, and Phlox closes the episode with a monologue about how moral his decision was.

The producers were unhappy that a character was disobeying the captain, and so the script was modified to what we were left with where they came to a consensus. Billingsley was only irritated that the story changed to give Archer the final decision about a cure, sharing the responsibility with his captain instead of having Phlox nobly committing Genocide against orders.

Actors are retarded, and so were Enterprise's season one writers.

Coming up on Star Trek 90210:
When an existential crisis threatens to wipe out a beloved but infamous Star Trek species, a cadet is forced to confront his past and strained relationship with his family. As he pursues an unexpected method of coping, Nahla races against time to save this species from extinction.
(it's the Klingons - some early reviews have mentioned Klingon refugees, and Jayden the Zesty Klingon is in a bunch of the promo pics for this episode)
I would ask how an interstellar species is supposed to be in danger of extinction, but "all the dilithium exploded" was a thing that happened on the show this is a spin-off of. And presumably this is going to be a hamfisted ICE allegory too.

At the start of ENT there was this brouhaha about how they were finally going to fumigate the Berman Old Man stink. New writers, fresh blood. They hired a bunch of writers who were completely untested, had basically zero experience with science fiction as a genre, and were immediately asked to leave at the end of season one.

Braga would later parachute in, rewrite all their scripts, I'm not saying (I'M NOT SAYING) he sabotaged them, but whenever anybody brings up how incoherent seasons one and two are, Braga just moans, “I was so overworked.”:'(

I'd love to know how the writers for these shows work. I assume they come up with ideas and then have no fucking clue what to do with them. Or their original ideas fall apart and they have to come up with some bullshit in the end. All the seasons of Disovery I watched felt ike that. Same with the first two Picards. Just a scramble at the end to come up with something to wrap up the plot and mysteries.

The idea dilithium exploded, space travel is limited, it's not terrible for reshaping the galaxy as a premise.

The explanation being a Kelpian child born in a dilithium nursery screaming when his mother died, blowing up all the dilithium in the galaxy is fucking retarded. As bad as the writers are, I don't think anyone would have envisioned that to be the cause when they came up with the original idea.

So is this just a retread of the Romulans all being shitty Picard didn't personally save all of the Romulans from a super nova? With the writers ignoring they have long been established as having a giant space empire?

I've tried very hard not to let this monstrosity of a show rage bait me, but this single image is completely and utterly demoralizing. Not just as a Star Trek fan, but as a human being, and more generally as a living organism.
That sounds about like Kevin Murphy's take on Jar Jar

On The Orville he played an alien with a bunch of prosthetics too, lol
He was recently in the Fallout tv show where he played one of the Elders.

Took me a minute to recognize him, I remember him best as the Alien Bounty Hunter in Xfiles.

It has been so long since I had seen him I thought he was wearing prosthetics, nope, his chin is just that way.

Because getting your politics from a man who has never worked a real job in his entire life, spends 95% of his time in his house reacting to other peoples content on stream as an audience of retards throw obscene amounts of money at him, has literal dildos all over his house for "funny" "ironic" reasons, whose vocabulary was stunted at the stage when children just start to learn about swear words, and went into an autistic rage when his favorite porn video was taken off the internet is obviously the sign of a truly enlightened redditor "person".
who is the star trek dildo man you're talking about? steve shives?

Vulcan blows up
Romulus star blows up
All dilithium blows up

That's the limit of their "creativity". Things blow up. Even Michael Bay would be telling them to calm down with the explotions. We're just a few seasons of the show criticizing capitalism by saying that the Ferengi caused their planet to blow up too due to the market.

I’m a little surprised they haven’t gone after the Ferengi in NuTrek yet. In fact I can’t remember there being a single Ferengi in any of the NuTrek I’ve seen.

Oh, they're there. Just in the background, including in STA.

Then there was Sneed (yes, that was his name) in Picard s3, but Matalas insisted on making it the original Ferengi as much as possible.

But as far as making them... talk, they probably wouldn't do that.

My fellow Trekkie they/thems, it's Joever...

Remember, even Picard got a second season.
Holy fucking shit. I'm on to Enterprise and I think Dear Doctor takes the cake for dumbest episode in Star Trek history. Phlox is a God damn monster and Archer is an idiot. "Yeah, let's just genocide this one species on the planet so maybe the dumb species on the planet has a chance to evolve." Who fucking wrote this garbage? I've come to the conclusion that the Prime Directive is idiotic and none of the writers have any idea how to consistently interpret it so you get retarded episodes like this. With his logic, why even be a doctor? It's just natural selection at work if your patient gets sick and dies, let it happen Phlox.
What I don't get is how this led to the warp drive rule in the Prime Directive when warp drive technology had nothing to do with the conflict. Yes, the Valakians asked a hesitant Archer for warp technology to use themselves, but after a single conversation between Archer and T'Pol, that gets dropped in favor of the evolution crap. Afterwards, it's just "Yeah we found a cure, but we don't feel like giving it to them and think they should fix the problem themselves".

This is what I love about Strange New Worlds' pilot. Yes, the Enterprise's crew violated the Prime Directive and caused irreversable change to an alien civilization, but Pike still went out of his way to clean up his mess and actually resolved the conflict before the planet devolved into civil war.

Do the Ferengi in Lower Decks count?

Final or close-enough-to-final concept art for the USS Starfleet Academy Athena:

I had the honour and privilege of designing the hero ship for Starfleet Academy, the USS Athena! Here are a couple of my approved design concepts made under the direction of PD Matthew Davies and ADs Anne Malee Van Koeverden and Matt Morgan. These images have been shared publicly in ADG's Perspective Magazine, so I think it should be okay to share these now.
.
A few other artists explored ideas for Athena before I was brought on, including Mike Stanek and Alyssia Ma. Some of the DNA of their early sketches carried on through my designs, so full credit to them for getting the ball rolling! There was lots of great direction coming from Matthew that needed to be unified here - including references to the goddess Athena and her owl, classical Greek sculpture, high-performance concept cars, parametric architecture, and of course the long history of Starfleet designs that have come before. As scripted, there was also a 20-storey internal atrium and a full campus transformation mode to consider!
.
Even though this is a far-future design, it's also a hero ship, so there was a desire from the showrunners to stay true to the core principles of classic Trek ships to make it instantly recognisable. I wanted to include as much of the functionality and familiar landmarks from past designs as I could, while still making the Athena feel like something new that belonged in the 32nd century. Lots of little references here to my favourite Trek design, the Enterprise Refit from TMP.
.
I produced a lot of images for Athena (including a full internal deck plan blockout) and will hopefully get clearance to share more soon, so stay tuned!

At least some parts of it are attached to each other. But why does it have a neck if it doesn't have the secondary hull?

By the description it sounds a lot like he was talking about MoistCritikal.

I want to believe that "Sneed" was a subtle dogwhistle, a way for Matalas to say that we are back.
Sure, the third season wasn't perfect but unfucking the shit made by Chabon and Kurtzman was mission impossible.
I don't understand why Kurtzman and his team felt the need to make the classic Star Trek aliens look so ugly. Then again that shit is everywhere in the production, even the frame is always busy, full of unnecessary stuff.
