This is very deep Star Trek lore, but when he was a little Irish lad, he was christened as Miles "Of Endless Torment and Suffering" O'Brien. It could go no other way.

I somewhat recently did a Google search for “why do people hate Keiko O’Brien so much” which I know why I dislike her, but I wanted to see why other people disliked her and of course I came upon a Reddit thread where it was full of people just praising her and defending her to the heavens.

It was really embarrassing.

If I find it, I’ll post it here.
I just rewatched DS9 and Keiko wasn't nearly as bad as I remember. All my memories of her being a cunt come from the episode when the pah wraiths took over her body to do some gay retarded shit with the wormhole.

There's that one where Troi's mom's fucking up everyone's emotions and she's trying to mack on some other dude too.

... I liked Keiko.
Yeah. There's a lot more annoying females in Trek than Keiko.

Don't forget, for marrying into the O'Briens, she got tortured too. Her husband got possessed and tormented her on TNG - then she got turned into a kid and had to deal with all that.

Nobody was safe! Mollie had to undergo a time displacement growth arc, and even little Kirayoshi had to get stuffed into Kira and come out her cunt instead of his human mother's.

The curse runs deep on the O'Brien bloodline. If anything it's amazing Keiko is so well adjusted.

and even little Kirayoshi
Wonder what happened to him

Mollie's actress was terrible.
I mean, almost no kid is good, but she was BAD.

Here's the thing about Keiko. The problem comes from her only being shown when she's being a problem for O'Brien. We almost never see her being a supportive wife. I can think of twice in the entire show she's basically around to be nice to him. When he's framed by the Cardassians in Tibrunal and in the episode with the luck thingy he's having this hoverball match against Bashir and she supports him before the match.

Beside that she's either unhappy on DS9, or they're arguing over her new job, even when she's first introduced in TNG, their wedding, she gets cold feet and almost cancels everything. She's a good point for "Show, don't tell" in where O'Brien tells people several time how much he loves her and she means everything to him, yet we rarely get to be shown why he does beside having a bit of nip fever. We only see Keiko has a negative force in his life when she's involve in whatever plot of the week so it really gives a bias over a long time that she's not good for him.

There's also that episode with the "harvesters", where she was the only one unwilling to accept he was dead and browbeat sisko into looking for him. That alone makes up for just about everything else, even if she did turn out to be wrong about his coffee drinking habits.

Betazoid menopause is a good excuse for any weird behavior. I remember a lot of anti-Keiko posts in the Star Trek thread on Something Awful so that's probably where it comes from.

I wasn't on Something Awful in its glory days but I guarantee that's where all the genocidal Janeway memes came from. She fucked Harry Kim with a strap-on atop the pile of skulls. She has a collection of alien ears in her ready room like some serial killer.

I love roasting Star Trek, but there's always that meme which goes too far :suffering:

I considered that one time but she's never actually nice to him in the episode it's stuff that happens while he's having a fucking hard time. But you're right that she indeed saved his life here. Plus like you said, it turns out she didn't know her husband that well since he drinks coffee at night all the time.
