As I'm rewatching season seven of TNG I can't help thinking how many "What were they thinking episodes" this season had.

Oh god, I didn't even get to the Crusher gets fucked by a ghost episode yet, S7 really is fucking nuts.

I think I'll rewatch Voyager after that, I haven't rewatched that one in so long. I usually just end up rewatching Deep Space Nine over and over.

The recent developments have made want to watch Voyager as it's really the last Trek that still felt like Trek to me. Sorry Enterprise you don't look and feel like Trek it's just... off. And most of your cast bores me.

You shouldn't skip Enterprise, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it although Archer's goody two-shoesness got on my nerves sometimes. It's definitely better than what passes for Trek now.

Strange, all these reboots and new works do, is make me appreciate the often misguided but still passionate products of the past. SW Prequels are still tedious, but at least I know they were trying to elaborate on the backrgound and breaking it on accident. It's not as malevolent as what we get now, that actively goes out of its way to shit on anything that they can get their grubby hands on.

Everything I've read from interviews with the actors to the production staff leads me to believe everyone working on these projects is doing so in what they assume is good faith. There are some real fucking narcissists who we know are not doing this (Alex Kurtzman for one) but even those people keep adding shit to boost their own egos. I don't think there is a unified attempt to destroy the old Trek in the name of wokeness, I think this really does come down to bad writing and a lack of real-world experience on the part of the people writing the episodes. I'd actually go as far as saying that the people writing nu-Trek are probably incapable of naming more than two characters from any of the old shows.

Nu-Trek is definitely a victim of the current climate of woke media, but I highly doubt there was a deliberate attempt to dismantle what was pre-existing. Everything its been replaced with is highly generic, something any green writer fresh out of grad school could pull out of their ass without even knowing the premise of the show they're working on. If it was more deliberate I feel like we'd be seeing a much more calculated and vicious deconstruction of the Star Trek universe. Kind of like if DS9 had zero love for the franchise. Instead its just a bunch of wild flailing.

It still sucks though.

I would agree instantly if we were just talking about bad Star Trek, but what we see nowadays deliberately throws mud at whatever came before it. Star Wars is the single best example of this and I see similar attitudes with Star Trek. Of course the people working on it think they create hot shit and they try to make the best product they can, but Star Wars Picard is a pretty blatant stab to ruin Picard... and it's not my wild theory based on disliking the show, it's what the showrunners themselves admitted to in an interview. The whole premise of the show is to confront Picard with his "White Privilege" and humbling him for being old, fragile, dependent on others and useless on his own.

Yeah, if it was shitty Trek, it'd just be shitty Trek, but this is shitty Star Trek that goes out of its way to insult the old fanbase, shit on everything that came before it and celebrate adding buzzword salad to the failing mix of mangled corpses.

It's a group of hack writers taking the big bad franchise behind a woodshed to beat it to death with a shovel and then parading its corpse around after it has been put in a silly new dress.

I mean, I use the term "religion" because it seems to help some people grasp the concept (baring a few users on this site that sperg out with their fedoras). So like imagine a group of religious fundamentalists were put in charge of star trek. In their view, they wouldn't be "dismantling" what came before, they would just be "fixing" it and "improving" it by pushing out all that atheism stuff and bringing in more faith and having someone undergo a conversion every other episode...

The people working on it now have no humility and thus to them, they cannot understand what makes a good story save that which makes the story more agree with their views and messages. The more the show preaches the tenets of their faith, the better it must be in their eyes. They can't see that they're dismantling what came before because to them they're just improving it.

It strikes me as the people writing the show not being fans of the show's original premise and not knowing how to handle criticism from fans.

A lot of the response by people close to the show come off as someone basing their actions on second-hand information. They are told that the Star Trek nerds are toxic, so they act based on that premise. They were told what Star Trek was but never sat down and watched it themselves.

Trek has always been pushing an agenda; but that agenda was never so shallow or exclusionary until now. And if there is one thing Trek fans hate, it is shallowness.

I disagree. There's a sort of directive coming from activists that is shared around a lot of writing rooms (I don't have the url to the paper, if I find it I'll share it later). You can see the effects in STD and Picard: every person in a leadership position is a woman, no hwite male allowed (or only as bad guys), women can commit any atrocity they want and get away with it (Mirror Georgiou, L'Rell, Dr Jurati, nu7 of 9, the asian romulan at the helm of the Zhat Vash and Starfleet) while men get what they deserve (Mirror Lorca, the scientist from the Enterprise who dared mansplain to Burnham, the guy from Section 31), etc. It's not just in front of the camera, it's also behind the scenes: they fired the DoP of STD after 2 seasons and openly said that they wanted a black man DoP, Jonathan Frakes is the only white man allowed to direct an episode of STD or Picard, they refused to let Robert Duncan-McNeill direct an episode because of his skin color and his gender (he works on The Orville now).

Not only these people aren't fan of the franchise but they also don't care. They only thing that they want is to "deconstruct" something that many generations love and turn it into something that is ugly.
