Lets be real here.

If nu-trek never happened there would not be a whisper of pro-neelix blasphemy to be heard anywhere in this thread or in the internet at large. It, along with every other godawful fuckup in old-trek only looks tolerable compared to the shitshow that is nu-trek

Take Chakotay back when the writers still gave a shit about him.

The torturously painful "DID I MENTION IM NATIVE AMERICAN TODAY CAPTAIN?!" schtick combined with every noble-savage/new-age-injun-hippy stereotype dialled up to a thousand and perforated with the offensive-yet-hilarious factor of the fact the "native american mystic" they hired to write all this backstory/culture shit was in actuality a lily white conman who literally made everything up, would in isolation be seen as the absolute nadir of the franchise given how unlike individual episodes with massively embarrasing cringe, this was something carried through the whole series.

Compared to the shit we see today? its bland at worst and at best its positively fucking charming in a quaint sort of way.

Same with every other old fuckup of the franchise, from the batshit insanity of season 3 of TOS to the insufferably smug new-age masturbation of season 1 of TNG to the godawful frankenstein that was the first two seasons of enterprise. In hindsight that shit is pretty damn watchable given how shit has deteriorated, due both to the quality of current trek and the novelty of seeing what sci-fi TV used to be like in decades past.

Honestly the only exception is Wesley Crusher, who I still fear is due to return to the franchise in one of the coming cartoons
I always liked Chakotay. He had a really nice chill attitude. I just hand waved the made up religious aspects as something new in the future.

Same boat, just can't bring myself to be even remotely interested in Voyager.
Anyway, one of you Janeway fanboys change my mind.
Voyager sucks but you guys should look up an episode guide and cherrypick at the very least. You're really missing out on stuff like Living Witness or The Thaw. They're few and far between but there are some really good Voyager episodes mixed in with the crap. Stuff like Year of Hell and Dark Frontier is much more action focused but I can imagine it would hold most people's attention to watch once.

Also since we are on the topic of Voyager, here is a late thangsgiving mayme

I honestly loved Voyager, a few of the characters carried that show on their back. Jainway, Chekotay, 7 of 9, the doctor were all great. Kes was definitely the absolute worst actor on that show, her being replaced by 7 was a godsend. It definitely feels different from the other star treks, probably because you don't have to deal with new visitors every show and Starfleet people coming and going. After hearing people talk about it I fully expected not to like it, but I ended up really enjoying it. A few of the characters were definitely underutilized, Neelix and B'Ellana (the annoying shrill) and Kim come to mind.
I thought her acting was fine, except her crying and pain screaming and stuff like that it was so shrill and yet they had her crying so fucking much.

Is there such a thing? I mean not everybody hates her but I couldn't imagine anyone picking her over Sisko or Picard.

It was fine until she had to do anything that involved not having a calm voice then it fell apart, like the episode where the gets possessed her acting was wow

I liked her but she'd definitely be last behind Kirk, Picard, Sisko.

I mean you could pick someone other than Sisko as best. But don't let me influence your decision.

Oh look at that planet of yours over there. Would be a shame if something happened to it. I will make sure to keep all this trilithium resin away from it.

I realize now I wrote it backwards. Kirk > Picard > Sisko > Janeway. Sisko was pretty good but his acting could be extremely cheesy at points.

Seeing Avery Brooks out of character and during interviews has led me to the conclusion that he was not acting even once during the filming of DS9.

Not really. I enjoy Voyager and I don't mind Neelix. From time to time, I even like his little story-arcs. All of these opinions predate JJ Trek.

Chakotay and Kim were rather pointless though... Chakotay was a one-note character and Kim might be the only character that deserves the term "no-note-character".

His acting method can be best described as "saying the lines".
Sisko might be the captain with the best storyline, but Avery Brooks is just not a good actor.

Avery Brooks is Captain Sisko. And Captain Sisko is a very intense man of questionable sanity that also happens to command the USS Defiant.

So you go tell Avery Brooks he's a bad actor and find out if he really has a space ship because I'm not going to chance it. :c

I guess Voyager holds a special, different place in my heart for a silly reason. When it was out originally it aired on UPN, I didn't live anywhere near a UPN affiliate, so the only exposure I had to the show was little blurbs in a magazine or reading some of the scripts online. A couple of years later, I finally moved far enough out in the country to pick something up, only some of the time of course, and pretty much unwatchable. But I could tell there was star trek things and borg tiddys and it was just so tantalizingly close, like trying to watch the scrambled porn channels as a kid. By the time I actually found a means to watch the show (I honestly don't recall if I moved again or what) I jumped in after the Kes episodes, and I don't regret that. It made the earlier stuff easier to swallow once I got a chance to see. Kes was better than Keiko but only marginally so by virtue of being less of a fucking nag.

The funny thing is, now that I think of it, I started watching TNG for the same reason years prior: it was just about the only show we could get on the antenna. But that didn't have the excitement behind it as I'd never seen the original stuff prior.

I kept wondering why everyone says Keiko was a bitch when I realized I really didn't remember her that well.
One compilation later and I'm womdering what the Federation's laws regarding divorce were because they must have been one sided as fuck in favor of the mother for Miles to put up with that.

She's ranted and raved and been wrong about this multiple other times, this is just a sampling.

Heh that's how I discovered Brianna Wu, as guest on some Star Trek podcast where she was gushing over Voyager.
The torturously painful "DID I MENTION IM NATIVE AMERICAN TODAY CAPTAIN?!" schtick
In Chakotay's defense, his tribe was the one contacted by aliens, which just happened to be from the Delta quadrant so his religion is the real one. Whatever happened to the militant atheism of TNG's "Who Watches the Watchers" (and every TOS episode where Kirk defeats a "god")
