One thing that endeared me to Troi was how friendly she was with Barclay.

Barclay is someone I go to to point out the professionalism that Starfleet embodies. There is that somewhat well known scene with Picard talking about how transferring a less than stellar crew member helps no one and is too easy a move to make and they should work to help him improve.

Troi could have easily written him off as a creep given his holodeck, um, activities, but she too worked to help him, knowing it was her job to help out troubled members of the crew like him AND they eventually became friends because of it.

There is a sweetness there that felt genuine.

If it makes you feel any better, Dwight Schultz is fairly conservative for a Hollywood type. I remember he used to fill in for a talk radio host I liked back in the day. Sirtis most likely hates him in person.

I expected it to be bad, but what in the ungodly fuck is this??
Imagine expecting nothing and still being disappointed.

Unfortunately Troi was wasted in most of her scenes, but at her best when she actually acted like the empath she was supposed to be instead of them just telling you she was one. Also they turned out to be correct keeping Barclay around and he actually improved.

I'll give you Rusty's islam clock was pretty funny, but I found him to be kinda hack.

Rusty was never my favorite, but I also never had a problem with him. I actually met him in person once, nice guy. IIRC, he was taking the piss out of Don Imus who was also there earlier that day (it was some sort of talk radio convention) and apparently Imus was acting like a bit of a diva.

Anyway, Schultz actually also filled in for both Michael Savage and Jerry Doyle from time to time. Yes, that Jerry Doyle, Mister Garibaldi himself.

Oh man, I totally forgot about "Rusty heck yeah". Good times.

And yeah Jerry Doyle was awesome. Damn that Babylon 5 curse.

So I'm on YouTube and my recommendations pops up a video under the "watch again" shit that I haven't watched in years. I'm posting it here for the feels.
This man was a fucking treasure. He was too good for this Earth.

Edit: The "watch next" function shat out another gem, an interview with Nichelle Nichols talking about how Martin Luther King jr himself talked her into not quitting Star Trek.
Now that there is the real reason we gave the guy a holiday.

Scotty always reminded me so much of my grandfather, the guy who originally got me into Trek in the first place. I know Doohan wasn't really Scottish (wasn't he Canadian?), but my grandfather actually was... @ExceptionallyExceptional I've heard that second story about Nichelle Nichols and MLK many times over the years, but I hadn't heard that story about Doohan and the suicidal fan before... and god damn you. I'm not crying, you're crying...

I knew Jerry Doyle had a radio show. I didn't know was that Dwight Schultz filled in for him a couple times. That's cool

Sucks too. It would been cool to hear what he had to say these past four years and the current year. Especially with cancel culture.

take the 3rd string conservative shitposts on the farms and add "funny" voices and you're most of the way to Broccoli guest hosting

Doohan is Canadian, had serve and was wounded on Juno Beach on D-Day. Lost a middle finger in addition to getting shot in the leg and chest by Canadian "friendly fire."

Rewatching DS9 for the nth time, I legit lost count how many time I've rewatched it.

It's nice how much they do actually foreshadow in the first season, it really it the Trek with the long term vision.

And lol, again our first introduction to Cakehole O'Brien is being a bitch because she hasn't got anything to do over there. The first time she's on screen she's fighting with Miles.

(DS9, season 5, episode 2)

Apparently, that's a woman.
Is that the ugliest alien race in the Star Trek universe, or what?

RIP Ensign Hoya, her death was worth it. That ship was used to deal a major blow to the Dominion.

Interesting bit is that she was a Benzite and they were shown before needing a breathing apparatus because they can't breath oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere.

But Hoya seemed to be okay so maybe they figured out a way to allow them to get around. Maybe a device that beams whatever gas they're missing directly into their bloodstream?

Considering the tech level of Star Trek, it could be a surgical alteration/internal medical apparatus that allows conversion.
