I always thought the uniforms were the worst offenders. I guess that the costume designers wanted them to look like the jumpsuits real astronauts wear, but how do you go from this:
And transition to this?
And why did Starfleet go from rank pips to rank stripes and then went back to rank pips?
It's one more thing where on its own merits, the ENT design looks pretty good, but the fact it's technically a precursor to the TOS stuff just doesn't add up.
I hate the Abramverse reboot with a passion that shares a long and troubled borded with psychotic madness, but I would be lying if I said that they didn't manage to bridge the gap between the TOS designs with a modern look. The "Enterprise" in that movie kind of looks like the iPod-version of the true Enterprise. Same with the uniforms, they retain a lot of the look from the originals, but look more modern in close-up shots. I don't like those designs at all, but they managed to update an old-timey and somewhat cheesy design to look modern and I respect that.
ENT, on the other hand, did okay when it came to the design of the Enterprise set (it looks like a step between the ISS and the Enterprise if you ask me), but they should have made more design nods to TOS, though.
There's just one hair in the soup with both the uniforms and the set design: It looks too much like, say, Stargate or BSG or whatever else came out around that time.
ENT can look a bit more futuristic than TOS, after all, there is like 35 years of technological developement between the two shows, so of course what we think looks futuristic is entirely different... so updating the look somewhat is okay, but it still needs to be consistent.
And going from pips to stripes to pips is awkward as fuck, if anything, it makes ENT feel like less of a prequel to TOS and more like something in between TOS and TNG...
And now imagine how much of a cocksucking faggot you have to be to make a TOS prequel series with holographic floating screens all over the goddamned place.
STD didn't even fucking try to hide how little of a shit they give.
