Dear Disney/Lucasfilm,

Hello, my name is [your name], and I am a huge Star Wars fan – not just a fan of the movies, but a fan of the Expanded Universe, too. [Describe how you first found Star Wars and were introduced to the EU.]

However, I was deeply saddened by the April 2014 announcement that the Expanded Universe would be discontinued and de-canonized. [Mention how the EU strengthened your love of Star Wars, how much the stories and characters meant to you.] I want to see the stories of [your favorite characters] continued.

In 2013, the Guinness Book of World Records reported that Star Wars had the most successful book series based on a film series ever: over 100 million sales and more than 80 New York Times bestsellers. Some estimates suggest that the EU was responsible for as much as 40% of Star Wars’ total profits, and yet the new Disney canon is not doing anywhere near as well. Almost certainly, if these “Legends” stories were allowed to continue, the Star Wars books would once again be profitable.

So please, Disney/Lucasfilm, I humbly ask that you please do everything in your power to continue the Expanded Universe (now titled “Legends”), with new stories and adventures in the same continuity that we had from 1976 until 2014.

This really is what the fans want. New movies are okay, but what we really want are the characters we’ve had and loved for so many years.

Thank you for your time and May the Force Be With You,

Sincerely,
[Your name]
These letters are monthly things...I am at a lose of words. This is one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen in my life.

The last two to three pages of this thread have not pertained to lolcow discussion in any way. shape. or form.

I'd love to outright close this thread, but the Community Watch board emphasizes keeping as much as possible open. So instead I've elevated the thread 'status' to Infected.
Those inserting their own niche over the top spastic Star Wars knowledge as well as those merely taking the chance to yell out powerlevel or cry NERDS are equally unproductive.

Trimming the fat and deleting all recent non third person objective views up until this mark.

Tbh, I think that group and letter is pretty tame compared to a lot of EU sperging. Don't get me wrong, it's still pretty autistic, but at least they're not saying Disney are evil or demanding they abandon the films and hand them back to Lucas or anything like that. From what I can see they just want more stories in the separate, original EU continuity which to some extent I can understand considering Star Trek (apparently) still releases books set in the original continuity and SWToR is still releasing updates.

That video and the comments section on the other hand...

This guy is also responsible for writing this recent wall of text on Facebook, where he compares the abandoning of the EU to divorce (I'm gonna just quote it given it's way too long to fit into a single screenshot).

The Heart of Hope
By: Matt Wilkins

Last month, I spoke about unity and working together for a common goal. But during the editing stage of that piece I left off an entirely different topic that I want to address today.
Not giving up hope.
I know this piece won’t speak to everyone since a lot of us already have hope that we’ll make a difference but I think it’s something we all need to hear. It’s also something we can use to encourage others who struggle with the notion of nothing happening at all.
To those folks I’d like to give a quote from Renny Harlin. A Finnish director who’s made such films as Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Die Hard 2, Long Kiss Good Night and Deep Blue Sea.
He’s endured a lot of criticism over his films and when asked about it, here’s what he had to say:
You just never give up, no matter how hard the challenges are and observe this world with a healthy dose of criticism and don’t just follow the herd like somebody else might do.
I love this quote because it applies perfectly to fans of the Expanded Universe in so many ways. Let’s break down why;
You just never give up, no matter how hard the challenges are…
Fans of the EU know a thing about challenges. We face opposition everyday, either online or through personal connections. The majority of Star Wars fans never read the books and have little or no knowledge about the EU. (which is obvious given their rebuttals on things) But as a hardcore fan it’s imperative that we keep a strong belief that our actions will persevere in getting more “Legends” stories published.
One of the biggest obstacles though is losing hope. We I hear people say things like “Oh well” and give up hope of their ever being any more “Legends” stories told, it breaks my heart they gave up so easily.
So it’s been over a year now and we still don’t have new Legends stories. So what?
Movements take time to produce results, they’re not instant. Look at the Browncoats of Firefly. They waited patiently for over 3 years before a movie finally came out in response to the fans. Surge (a cola from the 90’s) recently went back into production over popular fans request 12 astonishing years after it was first discontinued. We have to have that same patience as well, if we want to see results happen.
Giving up now is ludicrous. It’s way too soon to give up hope. We’re building our network, growing a support base and continuing to get our voice heard. We’re making improvements and will make more, but it takes time.
The Empire wasn’t overthrown in a day. We have to keep hope alive and that our efforts will make a difference.
…and observe this world with a healthy dose of criticism…
This is my favorite part of the quote because it’s exactly what needs to be done. I’ve heard the same reports as everyone about how Leeland Chee and Pablo Hidalgo are promoting the new canon just as hard as they promoted the old. People are disheartened over this news but they shouldn’t be.
We need to keep things in perspective over this. Chee and Hidalgo’s “betrayal” of the Expanded Universe should not come as a surprise. These are “company men”. They work for Lucasfilm and will say whatever they’re told. What about the opposition to this new era? They’ve dealt with plenty of opposition before when people hated the old canon as well. Hence one of the reason Pablo Hidalgo wrote “The Essential Readers Companion” in the first place. To disprove the myth about the EU being contradictive.
If the new canon is what they want pushed, Chee and Hidalgo are going to be the biggest promoters of it. Because it’s either that or unemployment and they’ve got way to cush a job to give it all up. I don’t blame them. I’d want to keep my job too if it was something I loved. And they love Star Wars. I have no doubt about that.
I’m not as upset with their position because I understand where they’re coming from. Like I’ve said in previous articles, I think the decision to re-create the EU the way they wanted it (without the hindrance of getting George’s approval) was too tempting an offer to refuse.
Think about it. They now have the opportunity to take out all the things they didn’t like about the EU and remake it “better” than before. What they don’t realize is that life doesn’t work out so easy and shouldn’t.
Sure you could give me the “life’s a buffet, choose what you want” argument but I have a better analogy for you, “for better or worse”.
An oath we give at the marriage alter to our partner in life. Sadly, it’s not taken as seriously these days but let me explain what I mean.
When you say “for better or worse” this states that you will love, support and endure your spouse in all the good times and bad. It’s easy to do this when times are good, but harder during trials and stress.
For better or worse, I love the Expanded Universe and all it stands for. Not just the good parts but the bad as well. (Hooray for the Holiday Special!) I welcome it. I accept it. I love it for what it is as a whole. No questions asked.
Chee and Hidalgo don’t have the same love for the EU as I do. They chose to divorce it for a much younger, prettier version of canon. While not respectable, this happens all the time in our culture today.
But we shouldn’t lose heart over it.
Because as our movement grows support these people will take notice. To quote Han Solo:
“She might not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts kid.”
That’s our beloved EU in a nutshell. All its stories aren’t the greatest but overall its something we can all be proud of and enjoy.
Look past the people who say “It’s never going to happen” and look at the EU itself. It’s too good to pass up. We’re not working with street graffiti here folks, the EU is a Da Vinci style masterpiece 35 years in the making!
When you put things in that perspective, it gives you a better idea of what we’re fighting for.
…and don’t just follow the herd like somebody else might do.
Don’t believe the nay-sayers, we can make a difference.
If we show enough interest in “Legends” material being made the companies will listen to their fans. They can’t afford not to. Paying customers with money in their pockets to spend is the most powerful motivation for any publisher.
Trust me, Del Rey’s not stupid. They want to sell books and if we show them “Legends” books will sell just as good (if not better than) the new canon, then they’ll be happy to oblige us in making more.
That’s why I’m constantly promoting buying books with the “Legends” banner on them. Why wouldn’t you? Buying Legends helps our cause! Publishers keep track of what’s selling and what you’re interested in buying. Buying “Legends” books send the clearest message to them all!
But if you’re buying second hand novels off ebay just so you can have books without the “Legends” banner how are you helping our cause? Publishers have no way to track those kind of sales and if you want to show them what you’re interested in, then buy “Legends” books and let the numbers speak for themselves.
Don’t “follow the herd” and give up. It’s way too early to do so. We’ve been given the same response by Lucasfilm over and over that nothing is off the table as it goes for creating new EU content.
That’s the good news.
As of now the decision is promoting Episode 7 and afterwards assessing where to go. That is our hope right there. What they decide to do next once the movie is out there and over with. Will they listen to our request?
Yes. But only if we haven’t given up hope by then.
They believe Episode 7 will put to rest the resistance of a “reboot” and have people fall in line and side with them.
And shame on every EU fan if they give up that easily.
Take heart, stay strong. Believe this will happen.
I won’t give up until I hear a direct quote saying they’re not making any further adventures under the “Legends” banner. By next year after Episode’s 7 out, we should have a clearer picture of where things stand for the EU. But if everyone has given up by then the answer will already be made.
Don’t follow the herd. Don’t lose hope. Keep that positive attitude and encourage others to do the same.
It’s the best chance we have at seeing our beloved Expanded Universe return.

Not something directly from a EU sperg, but here's a recounting of their apparent invasion of DragonCon...where they annoyed the shit out of people.

Also here's a quote from a EU fan in the comment section where he tries to justify this autistic behavior by basically saying Star Wars fans that aren't supportive of their "movement" are being mind controlled by Disney or something.

I wasn't at DragonCon, I don't know the people who were there, I've only heard bits and pieces of what happened, but from what I've heard I don't blame them. Fans who aren't going in lock-step with the masses to blindly follow the corporate-dictated reboot and rally behind the marketing blitz because they want to keep enjoying the same Star Wars universe they've enjoyed for 30+ years? How offended you must be at that, that we don't blindly follow what is marketed to us!

So they're basically fighting for their idea of social justice by acting like massively autistic douchebags.

All they need now is to get tumblr accounts.

Corporate dictated reboot? Why? Was the original Star Wars universe written by a prophet on a mission for world peace or something?

So there is now a Twitter campaign to boycott Star Wars VII... because it has a black hero. No word as of yet on if this is related to Bring Back Legends, but I thought it was worth a mention because it's exceptional individualism related to the new movie either way.

It appears to be part trolling which has mobilized actual retards to join the fight, followed by SJW publications like The Mary Sue covering it, resulting in the #BoycottStarWarsVII tag trending in a clusterfuck of pure autism.

This mongoloid appears to have started it or at least heavily promoted it.

Some of the usual culprits too.

If IIRC the entire thing was caused by trolls. Much like the cutforbieber and bloody pants shit, it seems the only two people who forgot how the internet works are racists and sjws that fell for this

As I expected from the EU Movement, many of them have decided to be autistic and claim the #BoycottStarWarsVII tag is a plot by Disney/"Disney-drones" to discredit them.

Because your precious EU wasn't a thing made by corporations to bleed money out of autists like you

I find all the Disney hatred from these people hilarious because these same people also suck Disney's cock over Marvel. I was actually in a comments thread once and I saw some sperg crying over the fact Disney had bought Star Wars and saying his allegiances were to the Marvel films now... WHICH ARE OWNED BY FUCKING DISNEY!

To be fair, he has a point about the new movie. Every new leak I see, the more convinced I become that movie is going to be terrible.
