Star Wars Expanded Universe Fans/Cultists - I HOPE YOU LIKE STAR WARS AUTISM

Unfortunately, despite acclaim from critics and casual fans, the film seems to have factionalized the hardcore fans even more than they were before. *sigh*

Not surprised... Even if I don't see this, I'll be siding with the critics and casual fans, then - if only to be on the side that watches these EU fantards burn themselves silly.

As far as they'll be concerned no true fan actually liked the movie, just those dirty casuals that jumped on the bandwagon who haven't been around long enough and don't know bits of useless trivia.

I get the impression that these fans aren't so much upset that Lucas handed the franchise over to Disney so much that he didn't hand it over to them. It's a belief I've seen in multiple to fandoms that the franchise "really" belongs to the fans. Because giving the fans absolute control is such a good idea, right? *sidelong glance at a certain horse-related fandom*

By the way I liked the movie.
Fixed.

What's funny is Star Wars itself was just a cheapened Hollywood bastardization of pre-Golden Age SF ideas that were already hoary before most of the fans were born. The main thing it brought to the table was special effects, and even those are cheesy by today's standards.

I'm keeping track of the various fan factions that have sprung out of this movie for potential future hilarity. One thing I've noticed is that the "didn't like it" faction has several sub-factions, some of which are completely at odds with each other - there's both a "Too samey" ("It's just a remake of ANH!") and a "Too different" ("It's not Star Wars, it's every J.J. Abrams movie ever made!") faction.

I think it'd be terribly funny if those two were to come to blows, for one.

I will confess -- I wouldn't have minded if they had kept Mara Jade in. But no big deal.

I AM kinda annoyed that Wedge isn't in it. Or Rogue Squadron. Because the space battles are the best part.

From what I heard they asked his actor (Denis Lawson) back, but he refused.

Indeed, in an interview he gave he came off as an arrogant bastard but the context was that he had a busy schedule with TV and stage acting and that any actual role would be minor and a diversion for him at the time.

If you watch during the 'Trench Run' scene at the end of the new movie, there is a pilot with a Scot accent that has a few lines of dialogue. I suspect that was a nod to Denis.

Ps - Halfway through the nuCanon book Lost Stars at the moment, and I've got to say it's one of the more well written books I've read in a while. Recommend it.

Since the publication of the "EU Spoiler Jihad" article across multiple news sites (The Guardian even did a hit piece on them lol http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/dec/16/star-wars-the-force-awakens-spoilers-expanded-universe), the EU Movement on Facebook has grown increasingly more bitter and hostile. One of the main pages is demanding the media outlets that criticized them reach out to them for their side of the story...

Gordon Sullivan, the Web Designer for their Billboard Project, had a rather cringeworthy conversation with one of the suspected admins of one of the many new anti-EU FB pages that have been made in the past month.

At this point, they're just fighting to stay relevant. What will really crush them is when their billboard project fails to raise enough money.

Just some more standard EU cringe I found.

History Failure par excellence. Then again, being that stupid seems to be a requirement for being smug about knowing how in the books Borba Fett and Darth Maudlin live and proceed to be fanwanked horribly.

The film contains a rather surprising death, so I wonder if a movement will spring up denying it. Remember Dumbledoreisnotdead.com?
Wait, that was a thing? :story:

I hope so, I think that its more likely with this crowd of spergs since there's no literary work that its being based off.

Off topic though, was it really surprising? I feel that Rey's engineering on the Falcon was telegraphing that shit. That and Han acting as her mentor, wasn't too surprising IMO

Retarded man-children sperg about how a change in corporate direction has shattered their entire lives.

Retarded man-children swear never to see the new movie and never to give money to the evil Disney empire, and deride those that do as filthy casuals.

Retarded hypocritical man-children then decide to do exactly that.

Funny how these idiots look exactly like I thought they would. Stereotypes and all that.

Presenting, John Kraly II.

Holy shit it's Star Wars Gamergate. How long until someone at Disney claims they're getting death threats and the EU fans fund a kickstarter to get a waifu?

These are the people who want the EU to be canon again. Keep that in mind.

Wow, how hard is it to just assume Expanded Universe is Canon on a personal level when reading EU Novels, or discussing it in a group where that assumption is understood? Disney's not saying you CAN'T read it or talk about it, they're not rounding up all of the X-Wing novels for the geekiest book-burning of all time. The only thing getting these fans' panties in a bunch is the lack of imagination to even assume that what you are reading are events that really happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, even if some corporate fat cats are saying it's not right fucking now in a boardroom in south Burbank, CA.
