Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

That dude is going to be sweating his balls off in the summer in that outfit. They should have him wear Luke's outfit from ANH during the summer so he won't die from heat exhaustion.
I've noticed that Iger only pays attention to the situation in Disneyland at best, since most of the decisions made in World are made with the idea that if it works in the cooler and more varied climate there, then it'll work in the hot as balls damp shithole that is Orlando. It's the same reason he got rid of climate control in some of their buildings and others lack key things like shade. Well that and third party contractors being there for grifting purposes not doing their job correctly.

I enjoyed those videos, and this one seems like it'll be interesting. The salt he generated from his PT defense was super funny. Don't quite remember much salt over the Special Editions though.

Special Edition haters are a very small minority if only because finding the original cuts of the OT can be like pulling teeth and so most people have never seen them. Plus the Special Edition's changes are (generally) well received. But oh man the people who hate the Special Edition are able to spew some of the most venomous and outspoken smalldick nerdrage you've ever heard in your life.

The og theatrical cuts are easier than they've ever been to find so I don't know what you're talking about, just go anywhere to download movies and 4K77, 4K80, and 4K83 will always be there, I'm pretty sure they are even readily available on Internet Archive. Ever since JJ Abrams mentioned that he prefers the og cuts of the trilogy I've noticed contrarians claim they prefer whatever newest version of the movies are to "own JJ Abrams" but it's all pretty cringe to me. I have a hard time believing anyone prefers Han's CGI head dodging Greedo's blast, or Greedo yelling "Maklunky!" before he shoots to warn Han that he's going to shoot, or the miniature models being replaced by CGI (Extremely cheap and bad CGI at that), a random CGI Dug walking around in Jabba's Palace. If anyone actually prefers the new updated versions of the movies then I automatically assume they are autistic as fuck or a Disney Adult.

There are a few things I prefer about the updated versions, especially the ending of Return of the Jedi, the original Yub Nub song is retarded and turns the ending of the whole trilogy into an embarrassing joke, but the Special Edition music (Victory Celebration) is fantastic and feels much more proper for the ending of the trilogy.

I think its a combination of:
Other than Han shooting first, there isn't any big changes. Most of the SE changes, even Han shooting first, are nearly blink-and-you'll miss it. But some of the less insane SE haters I get, which is unlike practical effects most CGI ages like absolute ass.

And adding to that, there is so much of the OT, and ANH especially, left on the cutting room floor that you could really change the character of the movie by adding/removing scenes so what's one more edit?

When I reference Special Editions I'm not talking about the Blu-Ray or DVD releases, I've never seen them. I'm talking about the 20th Anniversary Editions (the VHS tapes in the gold box) and yeah, I do prefer most of the changes in those to the OGOT. I like the CGI space dinosaurs, I think they're charming. I like being able to see Jabba, he's cool. I love the jazz singer in Jabba's palace, that shit's super fun. I like the beaky Sarlaac pit, it's cool. No, I don't mind the fact that Han doesn't shoot first, it does nothing to diminish his character for me since regardless of whether he shoots first or not he's 100% justified in shooting due to Greedo threatening his life and the fact that Han is a career criminal working for the space mafia is proof enough he's a shitheel without him having to do the under the table desperado move.

Hell, I'll be real with you and say that adding Hayden Christiansen to the end of RoTJ is a good change since that actually confused me as a kid the first couple times I saw the movie until my dad explained it to me that the random old fuck ghost was supposed to be Anakin.

Am I retarded? Definitely. Am I wrong? I don't think so.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinions but for me I can't stand the lazy cgi plastered all over movies that were perfect as they are, to me the og Max Rebo band sequence felt authentic as if it were an actual live performance from aliens at a bar but the Special Edition turned it into some stupid gag like it's a sequence from a DreamWorks children's movie. I could see the scene with Sy Snootles and Jon Wowza getting up into the camera in a movie like Shark Tale or something. I feel the same way about the "special editions" of Star Trek OS that plague every modern release, you have to go to Internet Archive to watch the og Star Trek series without a bunch of shitty cgi sprayed all over the place.

What it comes down to is what people have been saying forever, They should give you a choice of what version you want to watch. Literally every movie that has different versions will make them all available to watch except for Star Wars because George Lucas' autism can't fathom the idea that there can be more than one version of a movie. It's well accepted that if the Blu Rays and 4K UHDs had two discs, one with the modern versions and the other for the og versions completely remastered no one would have a problem with the Special Editions existing.

Possibly out of left field take, but I think Greedo shooting first could have worked if they hadn't tried to overlay an awkward laser effect that yanks a mile left of Han despite Greedo being three feet in front of him and pointing the barrel directly at his face. If Lucas had done something else as a warning 'Greedo is about to fire', it could have worked and not drawn so much ire. The only issue is that by the time Han fires, Greedo already has his weapon drawn and on him, and you obviously can't shoot more footage, so you're kinda limited in what you can do. The best I could think of would maybe be a hammer cocking sound effect, or some sign that he's 'primed' the weapon.

I actually think I hate this change the most out of the special editions since it both aged like shit due to it being early CGI and fucked with the tone of the best act in the film. Greedo shooting first damages the character, and makes the film worse as a whole due to how bad the editing is, and subsequent ones don't fix it that much either, but out of all the edits, I think the CGI whacky band thing is the second worst one. The brushing over of the original actor for Hayden is the one I genuinely hate the most.

The rest of the edits are either weird but do no damage, like R2 having a rock digitally brushed over him due to Lucas being scared that kids wouldn't understand he was trying to hide; or neat but a bit clunky, like CGI Jabba recycling lines from the cut scene back when he had an actor. The latter I feel is a weird addition since that characterization is different from the final, but it's not intrinsically that bad and could be ruled as him doing faux affable to threaten Han. Same energy as added Oola scenes that was done with the actress later on; it's nice but weird due to the visual difference in her due to age.

I also don't like the justification that just because it's easy to get the theatrical cuts now and in good shape that intentionally vaulting that shit and forcing you to go that extra step is okay. It isn't, since that sort of shit is why you're more likely nowadays to have a company scramble or brick something you bought digitally, since if it was okay for the creator to remove a product for the "correct" version back then, then it's okay for them to do it now for the same reasons justified then. It's why I think Stephen King's a jerk for removing Rage from sales around the world because one edgelord used it to be a pathetic bitch.

Agreed. It just really didn't work with the rest of the sequence/movie.

This is going to be a real rabbit hole to go down but bear with me but the original song they couldn't use it even if they wanted to since they "lost" the masters for it. Even though that "Lapik Nek" it was on the original soundtrack album it's technically another version with a different singer opposed to the one in the movie.

Sources say that the Masters might have also been given to DJ's to create their own mixes and literally cut/spliced the literal tape meaning if they were to release it they would have to literally find the session multitracks to remix them however knowing Lucas wanting to stroke his dick head ego by replacing the entire scene with whatever the hell the special edition one was chances are it'll probably never see the light of day again.

The same thing goes with all of the Max Rebo Band incidental music throughout jabba's Palace as the tapes were given to a 1985 documentary "from Star wars to Jedi" and were either never returned or stolen. Lucasfilm has only been able to use whatever surround sound mix with dialogue filtered out if they were to ever release them and it even would only be whatever was in the film to begin with.

It's too bad too because all that music was so unique by combining the emerging technology of the early 80s with the grittiness that came with the Star wars universe. Using instruments that are familiar to us but tweaking them to sound uncanny and alien.

My biggest gripe with the special edition stuff is that it has always felt like an unfinished project. George should have gone more in on it. Done a lot more stuff. It's inconsistent in what was done. Then put it out along side restored originals. Choose what you want.

The CGI singing in Jabba's looked decent in the 4K theatrical. I felt like it was more muted in colors and blended way better into the image. Darker than I remembered. The caveat is always, my memories from the theatre in 97 to VHS, to DVD then blu-ray. I ain't comparing next to each other. Just contemporary opinion based on memories.
