Star Wars: Rogue One - Cat Party can't type a fucking title correctly so I had to fix this for him like I do everything

Rogue One doesn't look like my thing, but I appreciate the touches they made to look like the original A New Hope. It does get annoying hearing the progressives cream themselves over a female lead (cough Alien cough) and the ethnically diverse cast. But on topic I think the writer Gary Whitta is a pretty lulzy individual himself. I kid you not his past work is on After Earth and he plans to use this movie to protest Trump.
There was no way to plan for the movie if Trump WASN'T elected, what are they going to do, stick one scene in a month before it's released? Seriously, though, the writing on this one is probably going to suck.

How did we get to the point where just casting a woman as a lead is "SJW pandering propaganda"?

Obviously just casting a woman as the lead isn't some form of propaganda. They're the other half. If this was made in the 80's it wouldn't have been seen as intentional pandering to socjus, but a response to Alien's success. But the first two Star Wars movies of the Disney-era weren't made in the 80's. They were made today, and these movies don't exist in their own bubble. They exist alongside six previous Star Wars films that didn't star women or minorities. They come alongside a time where the media is pushing sexism and racism harder than ever. You're sexist if you think it's creatively bankrupt to take old movies, invert the genders and pretend they're new. 10 nobodies on Youtube saying "Ugh, another girl???" is now an international news headline. People with followings are actually offended that a gender inverted 21 Jump Street movie is directed by a man and not a woman. The world's most popular encyclopedia views The Mary Sue as a genuine source of information. These movies exist in an era where Disney's Marvel comics stunts have gone from death and marriage, to literally Tumblr bait. Disney is making a Spiderman movie where Mary Jane isn't a ginger (#gingershavesouls), or even white. They're trying to make a Rocketman sequel starring a black woman. Then you have social media and a glut of interviews where you can find J.J. Abrams, the producers and writers admitting they're intentionally pushing for social cause.

Taken in the context of our zeitgeist, it's hard not to roll your eyes when you see another male created, male dominated property/hobby get a facelift starring groups of people who had nothing to do with its creation or success.

I never saw SW as male dominated. I used to hang out in a comic store in the 90s and I knew a lot of the big fans who came in to buy SW merchandise and novels and a lot of them were obsessed women. A lot of the EU authors were women too.

I remember reading an introduction by one of the authors (I think it was Barbara Hambly) about how the first film changed her life ..it was pretty emotional..

I remember hearing some vague nontroversy about how this film will be pandering hard to the Chinese by including excessive Chinese-targeted content, since TFA flopped so bad in China. Maybe that will be another area people will complain about once it becomes clear to what extent this pandering is manifested in the film.

Martial arts star Donnie Yen is in it doing kung fu ...

I like the concept of Rogue One and I'm interested in seeing if they can pull it off to its fullest potential. Yeah, it's filler before Ep. 8 and yes the sjws are already starting to cling to it like leeches. But we'll have to see. Disney's been doing pretty good lately so I'm eager to see where this goes, even if I'm slightly tired of every other franchise trying to copy the MCU.

How did we get to the point where just casting a woman as a lead is "SJW pandering propaganda"?
We got to that point by having exceptional individuals thinking anything with a female or non-white lead is literal SJW pandering. Sure some works might seem like that except we had women and non-whites as leads before SJW's were a thing on the internet.

Has anyone complained about that one or not/people are just making things up to create buzz.

I've seen outrage articles about the reaction, but like I said, they'll make those even if it's just 10 shitposters on Twitter with 100 followers between them. Either way, no one's watching Spiderman to see MJ.

Some butthurt over the Plinkett review for The Force Awakens:

I love how they accuse Mike and Jay of being paid shills when they have shown themselves to be unafraid of expressing unpopular opinions.
This is what I love about Star Wars. If it's a good movie, we get a good movie. If it's bad, we get a Plinkett review. Either way, we win.
That said, playing it safe with the new movies can only last so long before everyone realizes that it's just a rehash of the old movies.

Ugh, seriously?

This is exactly why I hate Hollywood getting involved in politics.

I moved all of you here because we already have a multimedia thread on Star Wars Rogue One.

Enjoy spreading your salt here.

What ruined it was Disney throwing away most of the EU and going "lol it's not canon no more" Or while the movies are the only real "hard canon" I liked the EU stories.

Disney ruined star wars with the way they handled it after buying it, not because of PC. PC is only a small reason.
Most of the EU was shit. Get over it. Also, Disney couldn't come close to ruining Star Wars any more than Lucas did with those abortions they call Prequel films.

Gary Whitta thinks mansplaining is a thing. His wife is an SJW and she has him totally pussy-whipped. The good news is, Whitta's screenplay was thrown out. He's got a "story by" credit meaning he wrote an earlier draft which has probably long since disappeared into the ether. Similarly, some of Chris Weitz's work has been rewritten by Tony Gilroy so I don't think we have much worry about on that front. Whitta still writes for Rebels but none of his episodes have come across as SJW-y thankfully.

I'll be seeing this the day after it comes out and I'm looking forward to it. It looks to be a good thrill-ride if nothing else. I don't give two shits about the ethnically diverse cast and people whining/jizzing about it are just making it cringeworthy for people who only want to enjoy the film. Like Plinkett said in his review - no kid will care what colour skin or what genitals the heroes have. They just want a fun adventure.

I'm in the camp that The Force Awakens was a bad movie because Abrams is a hack. Yet it made money. I have no idea why.

Rogue One will probably make money, if not as much as TFA. I just hope these other directors Disney hires make better movies.

It had the name Star Wars on it. You could put the Star Wars logo on a literal turd and people would buy it.

Also, why no Jackie Chan?

Just remember, people chimped out over Rey and Finn to the point that someone unironically called BB-8 a cuck ball.

I don't give a damn if a protagonist is black, white, or a man or woman. If the movie is written well enough to tell a coherent and good story, that works for me.
Lando was way cooler than pre-Jedi Luke was, and we only saw him close to the halfway point of the second movie.

The usual suspects have apparently "cracked the code."
