Star Wars: Rogue One - Cat Party can't type a fucking title correctly so I had to fix this for him like I do everything

You can see the Chinese-pandering effort in the previews. A bunch of out-of-place Chinese actors are hanging out as awkward side-characters. Its pretty obvious and clunky.

I'm just hoping it isn't as blatant as it was in Indepence Day: Resurgence, where they had a Chinese pilot in front of a Chinese flag talking about China's superior military technology. That was cringey.

I dunno about this movie. Episode IV era stuff is cool and a great area to explore in new movies. But honestly, and this is probably my inner nerd talking, I think Kyle Katarn and his partner Jan Ors were way better characters than this new Disney-spawned Mary Sue.

Seeing them on the big screen stealing the Death Star plans in their ship, the Moldy Crow (See Disney? Even has toys to sell!), would've been cool and a nice nod to some of the old and well-liked EU stuff.

The MC looks like even more of a cringy Stronk women Mary Sue than Rey was but I love universe so I'll probably give it a watch.

I think Rogue One will be good. The market can absolutely support a star wars movie a year as long as they don't suck. Look at how much EU and other merch gets pumped out.

The big difference between Star Wars and Marvel is that disney is starting with a relatively blank slate with Star Wars, there are no comics that they have to pull from and follow story lines from other than ones that they have approved. If they want to make a movie and introduce a totally new character or plot line there's no comic fan base to REEEEE- about how it's not faithful. By the same token, Star Wars is ahead of marvel because the movies are original stories instead of rehashes of old comic plots. Star Wars has always been a movies first thing, so selling new movies is relatively easy I think. There are some die hard EU spergs, but I don't believe hardly any are going to forego the new movies and stories.

I'm not excited that Disney dumped all the old EU, but I totally understand why the did it. The Star Wars lore was so cluttered that it was getting a bit hard to do much major with it and not run over already established events. Star Wars lore needed a bit more central planning than it had to make new movies.

I am absolutely sure Rogue One will be a fun, competently made film. Having said that, I'm not going to see it. I don't like the direction Disney is taking SW in, I don't like the idea of "cinematic universes" and getting hyped for a new SW film every year. Disney will do just fine without my pocket money.

Whhhaaaaaattt? Disney milking Star Wars hard doesn't appeal to you? But what about that young Han Solo movie series huh? What about that Boba Fett film? Please buy a toy too

Anyone remember Lando Calrissian? He was in b4 all this "nuuuh blacks will ruin star wars/kill whitey" crap.

Is Billy Dee Williams still acting tho
Lando was great.
That being said, as much as I like Boyega I really think he's the worst character in TFA.

I don't know, the way his character reacted ("ohfuckohfuckimgonnadieohfuck") made him more relatable to me than "of course I know what to do" Rey. The one I couldn't get attached to was the pilot who was barely there, but I guess is part of the trilogy triad.

Also they should've left Darth Emo's facemask on through the whole movie. After the "reveal" I was giggling everytime that idiot was onscreen. It removed any threat his character had and downgraded his rage to "I'm really serious, you guys. Pay attention to me!"- level.

I'll wait to see what viewers say about Rogue One before I plan to see it.

I think it'll be okay at worst. I just don't like the Mary Sues being so blatant right from the get-go.

Look at Luke. Sure he was powerful and skilled...but it took time. In fact, he was a huge fuck-up a lot of the time. It made him more believable and human.

In just Episode IV, he managed to lose the driids with the Death Star plans, get ambushed and knocked out by sand people, almost get into a bar fight, almost walk out on Han Solos offer to smuggle them, and has no clue how to get Leia out of the detention block after they rescue her.

And in Empire, he ends up getting his Snowspeeder shot down, having to be saved from a Wampa by Han, being shown by Yoda that he knows mext-to-nothing about the Force, ignoring Yoda and skipping out on training to save his friends, losing Han to the Boba Fett anyway, and getting utterly defeated and permanently crippled when his untrained-ass duels Vader.

Compared to Rey being a mechanical genius, super athletic and acrobatic, multi-lingual (Speaks Binary AND Wookie!?), skilled in hand-to-hand combat, an ace pilot, is able to mind-trick stormtroopers and rescue herself, and can beat Kylo Ren in her first lightsaber duel.

There is zero character development. Just a good-at-everything Mary Sue. I'm hoping Rogue One doesn't keep this shit up.

Boyega was a joke character pretty much, I really couldn't take him seriously. As soon as he met Poe the quips just started coming out and then that's pretty much how he was. Rey was annoyingly competent, but I dunno after watching the movie a few more times, Finn really grinds my gears.
And yeah Adam Driver has a goofy face for a Dark Lord of the Sith.

beat Kylo Ren in her first lightsaber duel.

Ray was a bit of a Mary-Sue, but I think what everyone forgets is that Kylo Ren just got shot in the hip with a bow caster, the weapon that they spent half the movie hyping up, he was basically crippled at that point and just going through rage and the force. She didn't fight him at any where near 100% of his ability and that's why she didn't just die instantly.

The only really outrageous thing Rey does in the film is expertly flying the Millennium Falcon without any prior piloting experience. Everything else she does that people site is stuff that she either should know or could reasonably pick up quickly. Also I think a lot of people forget that even in the film it's mentioned that Kylo Ren hasn't finished his training and there is no indication the Knights of Ren are intended to be Sith.

I'm not saying it ruins the movie. In fact I liked the Rey vs Ren lightsaber duel because it was more raw, emotional saber fighting like in Empire and Jedi fighting instead of the soulless, ridiculously choreographed spins and flips that the stupid prequel saber fights had.

It was an untrained Force Sensitive vs a wounded, not-fully-trained Jedi dropout.

I was just saying that they need to require some character development from Rey if they want her to be a relatable, believeable heroine instead of a Mary Sue blatantly made to get young girls into Star Wars.
