🐱 ‘Star Wars’ Spotlights Trans Non-Binary Jedi Characters

CatParty

To honor Transgender Day of Visibility on Wednesday, Lucasfilm debuted an exclusive cover of the “Star Wars: The High Republic” comic book series that features two trans non-binary characters.

“In honor of #TransDayOfVisibility we’re proud to unveil an exclusive cover highlighting Terec and Ceret, trans non-binary Jedi, currently featured in Marvel’s The High Republic comic,” the Instagram post read. “We support trans lives and we are passionate and committed to broadening our representation in a galaxy far far way.”

First observed in 2014, the holiday is dedicated to celebrating transgender people and bringing awareness to the discrimination and violence they face. President Joe Biden issued the first presidential proclamation that recognized the holiday.

Making their first appearance in the second issue of “Star Wars: The High Republic,” Terec and Ceret are Jedi bond-twins from the planet Kotab. Analytical and inquisitive, they have a linked consciousness and frequently finish each other’s sentences, even when they aren’t in the same room.

The “Star Wars” universe has introduced a vast number of creatures and characters over the last few decades, becoming a fertile landscape for diversity and inclusion. While Terec and Ceret may be the first trans non-binary Jedi characters, it isn’t the first time trans and non-binary characters have appeared in the larger franchise. Introduced in tie-in novels in 2016 and 2018 respectively, the first two trans non-binary characters to appear in “Star Wars” canon were pirate ruler Eleodie Maracavanya and aspiring scoundrel Taka Jamoreesa.

In late 2020, “Star Wars: Squadrons” introduced a Mirialan pilot named Keo Venzee who used they/them pronouns. The video game portrayed them as a wise-cracking joker with a Keo was revealed to be Force-sensitive, they quickly dismissed this power by saying their abilities were just a hunch. The campaign left Keo’s storyline unresolved, opening up the possibilities of the character showing up in future stories.

Dude I have absolutely masturbated over Daisy Ridley's thighs and the thought of her crushing my skull with them. They're fucking incredible.

Also all big movies are corporate products made by committees these days. Just because you prefer the spy Mary Sue product to the space white trash girl product doesn't make it any less of a shallow, focus-group created cash grab.

Idk about you but I found Kylo to be the most relatable thing in any SW movies by far. He's like the concept of being a retarded edgelord in the early-mid 00s turned into the primary character of a trilogy and it speaks to me on a deep level.

Disney might be an evil soulless corporation but damn if I don't love me some Kyle Rons (and Rey).
fair enough, you like what you like and you can relate, that's fine and dandy. But plenty of people want something deeper than that (like morality, and to quote a certain author "the human heart at war with itself"), as this forum, the history of storytelling, and sales numbers seem to show.

Edited to expand on meaning of deeper

I haven't read or watched anything from the mainstream made within the past decade since 2017. The last book I read was published in the 1890s (The Time Machine, HG Wells) and almost everything I touch is indie nowadays, because it isn't riddled with Mary Sue, unlike Disney. I'm not even into James Bond.
Are you into craft beer by any chance

Can you two at least argue on tranny jedi? The SW griefing thread is where autism can be sperged about Rey's mary sueness. I know backseat moderating is not my task, but it has been like half of the thread and it is not that relevant. And wanting to bang the actress is not really a relevant defense of the character. The problem with Rey isn't really miss Daisy but that she got so little training, not even in an off hand mention. Most of the SW autists would have stopped bitching if she had a 5 minute 80s training montage.

The fact that these tranny Jedi (which, by the way, is in complete defiance of the Jedi code, considering severing oneself from all attachments is part of it) are so uninteresting that the people in the thread would rather argue about the larger, but less spectacular abortion that were the movies is pretty telling of how little anyone gives a shit about modern Star Wars.

No, I do not drink.
Somehow I'm not surprised

Yeah, I get that, and I openly admit the ST has issues and the side material like books and comics has varied wildly in quality from actually pretty good to... bad, really bad.

That said even when you look at the OT, it's not exactly a super deep story about the complexity and morality of war. It's fun space wizard movies. You don't know who the emperor is or where he came from because that's not the point, pew pew and lightsaber fights are. The space politics and deeper shit really didn't hit until the EU stuff started, then the PT tried bring more space politics in but it got juxtaposed between Jarjar and Anakin crying about sand and the whole thing just became bizarre and awkward (though extremely entertaining when you aren't sober).

And the Disney Trilogy didn't even have the decency to provide memorable Pew Pew Laser Fights or good fight scene choreography while parading about a Mary Sue and kicking the OT characters into a corner. I can remember the trench run from A New Hope far better than I can remember the CGI Not Trench Run from The Force Awakens, because the latter was just a derivative knockoff of the former, and because the former was set up organically by the movie, while the latter is a trench run because JJ Abrams can only copy, and not create.

I mostly agree, notice how in my first post I pointed out I wasn't a major Star Wars fan, another slight PL here but I only really saw the appeal of Star Wars after reading alot of comparative mythology and learning about how Lucas went to Campbell for advice on the hero's journey. I think there Is deeper meaning in the OT at least than most people seem to give credit it however.

Idk personally I though Rey beating Kylos ass and the throne room fight were pretty memorable. And fun.

Autism and slight PL

While I can understand the autism here, given that I have my own sperg outs with the elder scrolls, destiny and most fromsoft games, I think we can all agree that the mouse is behind all of this and needs to be broken up. I'm fucking tired of seeing the same corp sanitized, agenda driven bullshit time and time again. I think others are as well, and not just people like us on the forums. Look at the popularity of say for example worm. Taylor was a very much so broken individual, and while some of the aspects of the plot didn't make much sense she was by far a better protagonist than Rey ever was if you wanna look at just being females, hell most of the females in that series were better protagonists than Rey was.

I'm just tired of all the corp bullshit and these boomer execs looking at social media and harvesting data from firms making massive miscalculations then thinking well this is clearly what everyone wants or some retard with an agenda and in a position of control over an ip (and don't you dare tell me this doesn't happen. As the saying goes fool me once shame on me..)

Stories are used to inspire, be it emotion or thought, impart a lesson, serve as escapism from a shitty life in the last couple of decades, or all combination of all three. Seeing the Disney Trilogy what am I supposed to learn from this? what entertainment is there when there isn't something I can't relate to as a human being? I ask the same question to all media in a similar vein to it. It feeds slop that doesn't serve any purpose beyond making money or pushing an agenda.

On the topic of agendas look at shit like Last of us part 2, the narrative was THERE, yet so fucking poorly executed that it made no sense and came off as caring more about the agenda than story telling. Wrapping back to the mouse editions of Star Wars, I see the same fucking shit. The potential is there but in the attempt to cater to what they think will bring in the most money while the creative people are busy tying to shoehorn in their ideas of what they want, not what makes a good story. Fuck these people,

The amazing thing is they have to see the results.. they have to see that every time they make an executive decision to fire someone for not being progressive, or greenlight another "woke" character that we're supposed to cheer for... because they bring the representation of 21st Century American sex-identity-politics into a story that's supposed to be happening a long time ago and far far away in another galaxy... the fans react negatively. They have to be able to see the number of Disney+ subscriptions that drop the next day, the number of crates of comics sent off to overstock retailers at pennies on the dollar... they HAVE to see it... and yet they don't get the message, they think this is all trolling, "toxic" fans, voices they can ignore... that's the real amazing part. They're determined to stick to their politics and make the fans love that which can only be meekly liked at best...... and despite what has to be, what, 4 or 5 years solid of not being able to forcibly turn the fandom into what they want, they still won't concede that fundamentally the fandom does NOT want this and you can't grow a new one out of the miniscule dregs that do?

Anti-GamerGate didn't run that long with it's doomed "gamers are dead, woke gamers are the new thing" narrative before admitting defeat....... what drives this madness indeed?

I don't think it's deeper meaning as much as it's just perfect execution of a timeless narrative..... which is why the OT is so beloved. Strip it of all it's Jedi and starships and there's still a story. Meanwhile, everything AFTER it has been increasingly corporatized and Disneyfied until we have the equivalent of an Amusement Park Ride... all flash and no substance. Strip down TLJ and you have the fingerprints of sterile boardrooms all over it, moving bland characters around to designated pathos points that only exist to fulfill a checklist made by the marketing department...... Female figure? Check Lightsaber? Check Fast Spaceship? Check Force Powers? Check.... waddaya mean that isn't Star Wars? The numbers all add up!

There's a time for harmless fun, but, I'd argue it increasingly doesn't jibe with what a lot of fans expect from a flagship property: it's like riding a Star Wars Merry-Go-Round you can put all the characters you want on it, at the end of the day, the "experience" is of a Merry-Go-Round, not the "Authentic Star Wars Experience!" we were promised with captivating storytelling and characters..... not that you can't have fun, but, you should at least not lie to us and tell us it wasn't a Merry-Go-Round ride and chastise all who pointed it out as sexist, somehow.....

Marketing departments are as lazy as journalists and get their information on what consumers want from what’s trending on the social mediums. As to why the execs don’t realize how bad they’re failing, my theory is because the corporate bureaucracy who’s responsible for going Woke and broke don’t want to lose their jobs so they hide the truth from their bosses. The purpose of a bureaucracy is to feed itself.

Disney has been losing money on their parks and is wracking their brains to get people to pay for their overpriced merry-go-rounds. Disney meddled executively in the gameplay of Kingdom Hearts 3 to add Attractions, which are like limit breaks but based on Disney theme park rides, completely breaks immersion, and are basically an interactive YouTube ad. KH is one of the few Disney properties that’s stayed good because they don’t interfere, and as soon as they do start meddling they create the most annoying gameplay mechanic in the entire series.

Not as big as your textwalls.

Also Rey could strangle James Bond with his own testicles. That might actually be a cool art piece. Would probably generate some great salt. Maybe have Luke in a gimpsuit in the background or some shit as well idk.

are you sure you are not tranny because you are literally attempting to say no mine is bigger.

Idk personally I though Rey beating Kylos ass and the throne room fight were pretty memorable. And fun.

That il give you, Mooks attacking at same time not waiting politely in line.

Sometimes I kinda wish because futa is neat. Dickgirls are neat. Being a girl with a dick could be fun. Not crazy about balls tho.

Tried to, just got threadbanned from the griefing thread after a couple pages of mutual autism, guess I'm stuck sperging about SW in the Thunderdome.

ST and Rey is alright, not feeling the troon jedi. The pronoun correcting bit is pretty cringy ngl.

The quality of the Disney shit in regards the the comics and books and shit seems to vary widely from actually pretty good (the Hux comic) to shit where even I'm like yeah that's bad.

TBH I don't understand all the reeing neckbeards do over my "corporate committee" every mass market franchise going back to the 1980s has been a focus tested cash grab. Rainbow shit,GRRL POWAH! and diversity is just the current trend. In the mid-late 90s and 2000s when I grew up it was gore, edginess and big tittes that was what was popular.

Hell Lucas himself whored out Star Wars with ROTJ to sell Ewok toys and the franchise was just coasting by on nostalgia for a decade after the PT ended before Disney bought it.

Not to mention I've heard just like the Disney shit the EU was pretty all over the place quality wise.

SW has always been more or less a giant toy commercial. I don't see the point getting super butthurt over it or acting like the ST is Satan or whatever.

Yeah I remember the tail end of the EU before Disney gave it the Old Yeller treatment was universally agreed to be shit.

But just like the PT now Star Wars nerds treat it as Nirvana because Mouse Bad.

And when the PT was coming out people treated it the exact same as they treat the ST now.

The Prequels are flawed. Genuinely, sincerely flawed. But I love them in spite of their flaws. Because when you look at what they are and what they tried to be, there's a genuine story with genuine effort in there. The Disney movies, when you strip everything away, are just a cold boardroom decision to try and make profit margins go a certain way. The ideology of Kennedy doesn't matter. The Mary Sues and total disrespect to the OT doesn't matter. The wooden performance of Ridley doesn't matter. The underwhelming CGI doesn't matter. What matters is, at their very core, the Disney movies are completely void of soul.

I like the sequels in spite of their flaws.

The creation of the prequels also involved boardrooms trying to profit.

Lol whut? You really think the Prequels weren't designed by committee and didn't try to cash in on popular trends at the time just like the ST?

Lucas was just as much of a Hollywood sell out and hack as Kathleen Kennedy and Bob Iger. ROTJ was made to sell Ewok toys and Lucas for all his bitching over how Disney made the sequels was more then willing to let the franchise just coast by on nostalgia when he had over a decade to make the sequels himself.
