Star Wars is a kids fantasy sci film. And George Lucas got lucky with first three cause they were action packed. I heard they completed plots and plot twists as they were shooting. He grew bitter at the fans complaining with the writing cause making a plausible back story on plots thrown together takes skill.
Episodes 1-3 are proof of that.
Star trek is adult sci fi. They developed characters, intense plots, and created crews that people loved. And with Spock dying for the crew was the permanent emotional hook and even JJ Abrams used it again in his Star Trek reboot.

I'm still fond of Star Trek but I don't care about Star Wars anymore. Meh. Cause the back story is crap and their futures are crap. The last movie had Luke having a nervous breakdown and getting killed. That's not how a jedi acts especially when he's one of the last ones.

As far as an original back story goes for Star Wars, it boils down to Palpatine/Padme fight between their descendants from Naboo. And if that's the case, Anakin's not the important center of the story. He's just the jedi sperm Padme used to inject the Force into her family....
AND THAT DIDN'T EVEN WORK CAUSE THEIR LEGACY WAS ELIMINATED. PALPATINE'S FAMILY LINE WON.
Rei just chose the good side of the force. Palpatine wins.

I am ashamed to say I was a staunch Babylon 5 fan.
