Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

some teaser info.

nothing new really, just you typical shilling.

lol, that speech. seems just like you can say 5 different things but you still get the same result.
Wait, they are still trying to figure out how to make your ship/character travel in the Starfield universe, in terms of fuel and FTL drive?
Todd seems to really want to go full hard sci-fi, why not use the gravity of the planets as a slingshot to save fuel within a star system?

Would it be sad if this is better than 'the outer worlds', just because quantity has a quality all of its own?

wouldn't really be hard to surpass something as mediocre as Outer Worlds

Starfield just having actual space travel and joinable factions will likely put it above Outer Worlds

Yeah, or even the base building or ship building.

Even if they only put in the amount of content that Outer Worlds had in regards to mission and gear at least you can mod it to have less shitty gear also making it better then Outer Worlds by default. Somehow I doubt though that Bethesda will sink as low as just make the upgrade for your gun a reskin of something you've been using for hours and they're probably just gonna port the weapon mod system from Fallout 4 anyway.

the outer worlds had a robot as a companion you could be pants shittingly terrified of in character
thats the only thing i remember or liked about that game

If you went full hard sci-fi the game would pretty much entirely be set in the solar system considering actual faster than light travel only has a few tentative theories behind it. I agree that they should have gone full Mass Effect, because Bethesda's talent for imagery and environments would be a much better fit for something like that.

Todd was on Lex's show:

They talked about more than just Starfield, but here's a summary I shamelessly stole from reddit:

  • Says in Starfield the star systems will have levels attached to them.
  • Says you won't be stranded out in space with no fuel. It's a "fun-killer". Maybe for a hardcore survival mode in the future.
  • Different space suits will have buffs to gases/toxicity/temperature. Will be useful depending on what planet you travel to
  • Robot enemies are confirmed.
  • Not putting Starfield on PS5 helps with focus. Says they've always primarily focused on Xbox when it came to consoles.
  • They went into development focused on Xbox so the exclusivity isn't abnormal for them. Xbox brought Bethesda to consoles with Elder Scrolls: Morrowind
  • Xbox top engineers are helping with Starfield development on Series X/S
  • Delaying Starfield was tough but the right thing to do. They wanted to say they could get it done (given the amount of work left and the amount of time remaining) but it was too much risk involved to the team, the game, the fans and Xbox
  • Says there's added pressure to deliver for everybody with Starfield since they are a platform seller now. Making "THE GAME"
  • Says he prefers console to PC cause hes in front of a PC all day at work
  • The world is generated in tiles, like usual Bethesda games. They made these tiles look like realistic landscapes, put them together, and then wrap them around a planet.
  • Todd says they could do way more than 1000 planets but decided to set a limit due to the detail of naming them and having a distinct feeling about each one.
Todd specifically mentions a "Level 40 System" so different systems will be of varying difficulty.

  • The tone is that space travel should feel dangerous and that they have dialed this back and forth during development. Can possibly mine planets for fuel?
  • "They get into environmental things" on planets. Space suits, buffs, gasses, toxicity, temperature.
  • There are robots. Robots are mostly utility robots.
  • Starfield is a deeply human world.
  • Other ships DO come and go from the starports.
  • You can jump into a system and see a freighter, other ships can contact you.
Extras from what I saw elsewhere and heard myself:

  • Orbits are done in real time.
  • Planets are fully realized.
  • Says he likes the player to feel alone, far from anyone on a planet.
  • "I can get my ship blast off and land there and build myself a home"
  • Says he loves companions and romance systems in games and Starfield will have 4 romance options that are more complex than Fallout 4 - Thanks /u/CyberCoom

Bethesda games may be buggy as shit, but they’re also a lot of fun. I won’t pay full price for this but I know I’ll probably play it on game pass.

IIRC, Lex has a lot of contacts between his work in tech/AI and his connection to Joe Rogan, plus his general autistic nature makes him non threatening to guests.

As for his following, I don't get it. I guess being autistic is endearing now. Plus Joe Rogan has some "good luck chuck" effect for being friends with retards and getting them followings. Just look at Bert Krisher, Brandon Shaub and Joey Diaz.

Heres my doomer predictions for the game based on zero evidence

Fallout 4 tier dialogue options

The different start options have cyberpunk level impact on the story and will just essentially be different stat bonuses

Spess will largely be a hub from going from forest world to desert world to lava world

Cant even be bothered putting in a NV tier faction relation system other than a quest to let faction A take over X or faction B take over X

"This perk adds 3% damage when you teabag your companion inside of a freezer"

Seems like it's going to be empty and boring based on that "says he likes the player to feel alone, far from anyone on a planet" comment. Hopefully that's an exaggeration.

The Starfield Subreddit is dooming because it may not be part of the big Xbox showcase, making them wonder if it has been delayed yet again.

This is all based on some guy being like "trust me bro", of course.
