Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

See the problem is, you think every game sucks.
No just Bethesda games, they're bad rpgs, and bad shooters. There's no aspect of them that excels or stands out as unique. They also aren't greater than the sum of their parts, if anything all the different systems get in the way of each other. I don't like borderlands but at least I can see what it's appeals are, you go out to shoot things, get tons of items, sell all the stuff that isn't better than current gear then repeat. Bethesda RPGs have the exact same gameplay loop but bog it down with poorly written characters/quests with choices that don't matter, their shops have limited money which just makes the process a bit more tedious, there's pointless crafting systems which just bogs the game down with menuing for minor benefits or benefits that are far too strong, theres never an inbetween and ultimately all this feeds back into lack-luster combat that lacks any form of encounter design, interesting AI or balance. Their games are bad, there's hundreads of better shooters, even simple ones that don't waste your time with so many menus between meaningful gameplay, and so I fail to see any reason to play their games.

Yeah and we thought Bethesda would have ironed out those rough edges after 20 years.
This is the most reasonable thing I’ve seen on this thread.

I’m not really experiencing any problems with this game. I’m having a lot of fun with it. I like walking over the little hills on some planets and seeing a base or natural formation off in the distance and making my way over to it. I haven’t even gone to see Constellation yet and I’m having a lot of fun just exploring the area around New Atlantis.

It’s got that “Bethesda Charm” that made me love Oblivion, Skyrim, New Vegas (Bethesda made 90% of the assets and handed them to Obsidian), and Fallout 4.

Once I’ve logged a decent amount of time into the game over the next few months, I’ll make a detailed post listing what I like and don’t like about it. But so far, me getting behind the game after the Deep Dive in June has been paying off.

This is factually incorrect. Jesus Christ you “people”
No wonder this website keeps getting nuked.
1. The site keeps getting nuked because it exposes Liz Fong-Jones as the tranny rapist he is, but he's well connected and has enough drive to contact higher ups in companies that run the backbone of the entire internet, including their wives, and pressures them to block and cripple Kiwi Farms. You are mad over a video game.

2. You might just be the only person posting here who is playing the Xbox version. The rest of us are on PC. This game runs horrible, even on PCs that are much more powerful than an Xbox Series X. Considering the relatively weak Series X adoption rate, the vast majority of players will be on PC.

So...Outer Worlds was a more fun Sci Fi RPG game. Bethesda gave us 'skyrim in space' and there are much better space sim games. The 'omg its a good shooter' cope is hilarious. There is seemingly a lack of color in the future of space.

There really are a lot of black NPCs in Starfield. Like a distracting amount.
This was a thing in Fallout 4 as well, with most raiders being a different shade of dark mystery meat.

It's funny that they still have certain fans after their Hogwarts chimpout
Do tell. I thought they looked soy, but not that they actually were soys.
they are still using flash, god save us
I don't think they can port HTML 5 to Creation, tbh. Even IF they tried.

No real mods yet because no xEdit update or Creation Kit, its going to be textures and ini edits for a while.
I give Caliente by the end of September for CBBE to drop.

Besides all the black npcs, the number of fat people in this game is staggering.
Clearly, this is less optimized than Skyrim or Fallout 4 even in the texture department.

Ignore the file sizes, BSA browser seems to not fully work with the new BA2s at the moment. But they are using separate textures for every single channel, including AO. This multiplies the file size by a vast amount when they could be packing a bunch of stuff into single textures. AO could be packed with Roughness (or literally just bake the AO into the colour, all that happens to it in PBR is that it gets multiplied on top anyway, its pointless), normal could be packed with something in the Alpha channel, or even the Blue channel if they solve for Z in shader like they did in Skyrim. Skyrim packs specularity into the normal in the alpha channel, so all objects are just colour and normal, since colour uses alpha for alpha, where as this just uses completely different textures for everything. There is 40gb of texture BA2s and they could cut down each texture set to 4 or fewer textures down from 6 or even 7 with metalness, probably saving upwards of 10+ gig, and lowering the VRAM usage by a lot as well, since you don't need to load 6 or 7 4k textures into memory.
What format are these? MS made a big hubbub about their fancy dx12 texture compression but I wouldn't put it pass todd to be using good ol dxt5

Holy fucking shit. I have not laughed this hard in a long time.

Yeah they are more retarded than a mobile game, I ran into one that just kept spinning around in circles all the while yelling to take cover. So many times I can just walk up to an enemy and they won't even acknowledge I am there shooting them.
The first thing I did was unequip the gun they wanted me to use, run up to the ship, and punch everything and everyone to death. The AI literally couldn't figure out what to do.

Like holy shit I wasn't expecting a lot from bethesda but the balls to ask 70 bucks for this game is insane. Did they think mods were gonna save their asses again? Cuz it hasn't for a longass time, it didn't save FO4, it didn't save ESO, it didn't save FO76, it won't save this.

I tried this game for about 20 minutes and it runs like shit on my thousand dollar video card. The absolute state of games.

I did manage to make a cute girl in the character creator:

I got around 70fps at 3440x1440 all settings low. The game kept freezing for a few seconds at a time and audio kept dropping out. I figure it might be smoother if I were running it on an SSD instead of a USB HDD, but I refuse to buy a special snowflake fucking SSD for games because the retards running the industry cannot optimize anything anymore. Also, my computer was running so hard I could smell the heat dissipating from it. That can't be good.

Same here. Propably the only okey female hair too, it covers the dome forehead, and had the same lag issues. Cyberpunk ran fine, no cashes or lag on max. Consoleplebskekekekekekek.

I wonder if the game NEEDs an SSD install.

I am only in the 2nd tutorial so left the mining base. Space combat is servicable if not inspiring. A less polished variant of SW The Old Republic's fighter pvp with jankier controls.

Traits are eh. Stats are rather obtuse. Ui is even less user friendly than Skyrim or BG3.

It is overall a 5 out of 10. Not unplayable but nothing inspiring.

I'm beginning to wonder, given how a lot of the people who like the game say that it took them till they were well into the story before everything started to click, what exactly the mindset Bethesda had when they chose to make the first hours so tedious, based on what I'm hearing from you guys.

First impressions do matter after all.
