Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

Not sure why there's no aliens though. Even TES has felinids and argonians. They kept the magic system why couldn't they keep these races?
Laziness. Emil couldn't even flesh out humanity in a believable fashion, imagine him trying to come up with human factions AND alien cultures. And TES only has non-humans because they are a mainstay of prior developers.

I gave up Starfield when a mission sent me to meet a Black Russian who then sent me to his house with no obvious point. I can tell you absolutely nothing else about that game other than it has a cowboy.
I even fucked that cowboy to see if anything happens. Like does his daughter at least act differently, or his obviously conservative "conserve our bloodline" dad do anything?

Nope.

Nope.
We must secure the existence of our cowboys and a future for cowboy children.

Grim. Guess it's time to watch out for when it dips to triple digits. Skyrim LE isn't below that, mind you, and it has been delisted sometime around 2016.

What's the word on the modding scene? These games live and die by the modding community, and from what I heard it's looking grim: Nobody wants to mod this piece of shit and those that do will have an uphill battle due to complications compared to how this was done in the earlier titles...and that's once they HAVE modding tools in the first place

Did anyone even really want this shit in the first place? I remember that even in the initial reveal trailers on like YouTube there were lots of people on the comments going "that's nice now where's TES6/FO5?"

They probably don't want those things anymore though, all the talent is gone.

Starfield is literally Todd's dream project, something he wanted to make ever since he began working at Bethesda. Nobody else but him actually wished for it to exist.

Makes you wonder whether he's super-depressed about Starfield being universally panned and unpopular after the honeymoon ended, or happy and content that his dream project is finished and became a sellable product played by millions.

5k active players is fucking dismal for an open world RPG just a few months after release.

Copers are going to go "well player count dropping off is normal for a single player game."

Yea that would be valid except BGS3 is averaging about 100-150k players a day and that game is a linear CRPG and not an open world one which makes Starfield's numbers even sadder.

Cyberpunk is also retaining a much higher userbase and that game was released virtually unplayable literal years ago.

It's so fucking over for Bethesderp.

Doubt he's too beat up about it. There's no doubt in my mind that the final product was anywhere near what he imagined and he likely came to terms with that years ago, maybe before the game was even announced. That's what you get with products designed by committees.

I can't say this enough, Starfield for Todd was literally just a "space/sci fi game". I think at some point it just became an excuse to visit Nasa than being any sort of "game dream". I think the disappointment of Starfield hurts Emil more than Todd at this point because it was more his ideas and stuff "behind it all" than Todd.

Todd already seemed checked out of Starfield by the time he did the Lex Friedman interview in 2022. He was even tempering expectations by that time.

I think the dude is checked out of gaming in general. It's why he keeps mentioning retirement. And I think he saw the writing on the wall with Starfield sometime in 2021 most likely, and that's why he's talked about how he wishes "they" would let him just reveal a game when it's done and release it like 1-3 months later. It makes me think that he wishes Starfield could have been cancelled when he realized it just wouldn't work, but because they had to announce it in 2018 there was an obligation to release it.

Then you hear the stories of how Bethesda wanted it out by 2021, how Pete Hines (I think) was telling people it'd be out at certain times, only to then have Microsoft announce it was delayed, and it makes me think that Microsoft deal probably forced their hand as well.

Even Todd talking about his regret at taking so long for Elder Scrolls VI to come out now. It all strikes me as Todd seeing the writing on the wall but being stuck dealing with this shit. I don't think he looks so defeated at the Game Awards because Starfield is being forgotten or because it was't up for any awards. I think he (and probably other "elder statesman" of western development) see the writing on the wall and are sick of all this video game shit and are scrambling to get out. That's why Dan Houser bailed on Rockstar. That's why Pete Hines retired. Etc. etc.

And it still turned out to be shit :story:

My ship decided to LARP as the Rocinante:

Still better than that time it spawned under the map and I had to no-clip to get in and leave the planet.

Speaking of Islam. How many gaming youtubers did Starfield expose as pronouns shilling faggots? Appabend a bigger faggot than Linkara. He is lucky Muslims in his home country didn't throw Appavend ass off a building to defend Starfield pronouns.
Week-End Warrior > Appabend

want would be too strong a word, but I kept tabs on it as a simple "mite be good" option. not many AAA open world spacegames around, so even if gameplay is average I'd still get good production values maybe (inb4 >bethesda).
turning out the way it did I just keep playing what I already play or (try to) reduce my backlog, no need to get hung up about it.

It's definitely not normal for a Bethesda game, which I think speaks to how badly they dropped the ball. If this doesn't serve as a wakeup call to Bethesda I don't know what will. Not like they have the talent to course correct anyway.

Yep, gaming is pretty much fucked and I'm sure the Microsoft acquisition came with some very specific caveats that makes bailing and retiring more satisfying an idea by the day.
