STARSECTOR - Best $15 you'll ever spend

TheDrgn had crash code in is mods for a while now, but no one cared because "oh it's just because of the nazi mod, fuck nazis" (even other people had crash code too, but again, no one cared). Alex warned them about it too, but they all collectively responded with "ok, ban me then" because at the time Starsector wasn't as popular that they'd take a huge ego hit if they were banned. Even if they were (which now they are), aside from Github they're harbored in the unofficial Discord because the jannies there protect them.
Everytime I get back into the game after a few updates a couple more of my favorite mods always seem to disappear due to retarded drama and malicious code. At least Diable Avionic gets passed to a new caretaker when the old one retires or goes off the rails. Is there any other modding community that does this shit?

Ah great, someone replied to me. Now I gotta play Starsector for another 200 hours.

Well, most of the time when a modder does something retarded someone else takes over the mod (as you mentioned). Not always a caretaker, could be someone who just likes the mod and can maintain it for future versions such as KindaStrange. Also worth mentioning that the jannies took someone reusing a few sprites from other mods (which wasn't even proven, at most he traced over a few) more seriously than malicious code and malware simply because the mod maker who had the malicious code is well known and "respected" by the jannies and the community. This isn't even the first time they've drove away someone because they had their heads up their ass. The creator of the original NGO mod comes to mind, because it was too "fascist." In case you don't want fascism in your genocides.
"Once upon a time, we had a legit neo-Nazi on the forums (username Ahne), who was given roughly a million chances to fly under the radar, which he finally exhausted, and got banned along with his poorly-made mod. This was broadly regarded as a good thing, but a few real fuckheads keep whining about it. One of them resorted to Holocaust denial. Life tip: don't be that guy."

"Weird, how genocide fanboys have trouble making friends.",

"~Hitler, has only got one ball; Goering, has two but very small; Himmler, has something similar; and poor old Goebbels, has no balls, at all!~"

"There's no such thing as a good-faith demand for political neutrality. And asserting a right to state your views is disingenuous; if you have a case to make, make it, but don't quibble about your right to. That's a hallmark of indefensible ideas."
No proof, no real reasoning beyond "he said some weird shit and added fascism to his mod", I can't stress enough how awful the forums and dicksword are, even the fucking Reddit calls them out. Somehow, the Reddit is the least awful place in the Starsector community, in fact it's actually not bad at all, this hurt to type.

"WE HAD TO BAN HIM, HE WAS NAZI!"
"How about you try to understand him first instead of kicking him out immediately and probably making sure he never improves himself?"
God damn son. Also worth noting that NGO also suffered from "crash code," well, Kadur Remnant had the crash code if both mods were enabled and no one cared because "national socialism is worse than....socialism." (Worth noting Kadur was a communist mod so put two and two together) The reason the crash code drama blew up was because...I have no idea why it blew up recently, if I had to guess it was because Ymfah pointed it out and made patches to those mods that removed the crash code, not to mention the Ironclad Lion situation probably brought even more attention to the shitty community. TL;DR he made a 2 second joke, he was harassed and banned off their Discord while the modders with malicious code were harbored safely.

>Is there any other modding community that does this shit?
You have to understand, modding is for hyper autists with huge egos, this shit exists in all sorts of forms in every modding scene ever to exist. Obviously it was less awful when the normies came in mass to the interwebs and started worshiping them as calls and subsequently attacked anyone who called out their Gods for anything. Best you can do is try to ignore it the best you can, but when it explodes you watch closely to who started what. I also find it hilarious how coomery is frowned or praised at seemingly random intervals. "Waifus and shipgirls are A-OK, in fact put some loli's in there too! But that mod that adds shipgirl images to the main menu but is otherwise a normal ship mod is too much, remove their mod and ban them!" I will say I don't feel too bad for the latter mod (Stingers Shipyard) since the dev is a massive faggot who'll ban his supporters if they do a single thing wrong. He's also a coomer into fat girls and a furfag so yeah, not surprised, he's currently trying to make a hentai mod of some sort, or add hentai to his mod, forgot which.

I miss the ironclads mod so much (:_(

What mod had the malicious code in it again? I forget.

I've been down bad enough following the loss of a couple favorite mods (yeah Ironclads, fuck) to fantasize about paying someone to maintain them :( now that's down bad

Well I believe TheDrgn's mods still have the crash code when used with certain mods such as NGO. There's a few that I can't quite remember, such as codes that straight up corrupt your game, break NPC code, and all sorts of other shit. My nigga Ymfah (the Dark Souls guy) is quite the coder as it turns out and just randomly popped up in the Starsector scene, made a video and some other sick shit, and fixed a bunch of crash/corrupting code while mocking the people who made them. Remember, the Starsector dicksword and forum will silence and ban anymore who speaks poorly of their previous modders, but only modders they like.

"Please maintain this mod, I'LL SUCK YO DICK!" Anyway, yeah it sucks. You could probably ask around the Plebbit or unofficial Discords regarding that.

You of all people should understand the itch this game scratches, its the metaphorical "right between your shoulder blades" lil bastard that you can't reach on your own :(

Fuck I love this shit and I wish AAA studios would fund more of this (even though a big studio would probably ruin it)

It's the "itchy ass" itch that you can scratch all day at home but you can't do it in public and it degrades your sanity.

Ah shit, how'd I miss this? Was going to ask people who were watching this thread or stumble upon it to show their colonies. Whenever I see a post from you it's usually going a good time, so thanks. From what I can understand, someone leaked some discord log or something and the UAF dicksword went tits up and "Caves of Qud" mode? Kek.

Oh boy I hope I find something cool he-
screenshot025.png
I came looking for silver, and I've struck shit colored gold. For context, these are the Plagueseekers from (torched)Seeker, more specifically Cataclysm fleet. Cataclysm is the big boss of the mod and formidable...unless you cheese the fuck out of it because all it's firepower is in its sides, but be wary as it can turn very fast and so can its turrets. Nothing a Doom with Phase Anchor can't handle, your best bet is to wait for an opening where the largest number of fleets are away from Cataclysm, you can wait quite a while as they are neutral...usually.

It's worth noting that the vast majority of the fleet are mostly frigates and smaller, also worth noting is that you cannot normally recover the Cataclysm as it will turn into a station for you to use and has some goodies in it, you'll have to use console commands or edit the ship's file so it's boardable like I have. The other ships are free game, and do not use Plague weapons on normal ships as they reduce combat readiness by a few points but nothing terrible, hardened subsystems halves it. There may be three other bosses but they might not be implemented? I've only ever seen them in the files and only ever spawned them.

screenshot027.png
This one is called Rogue Star, the White Dwarf class ship and it seems to be a Remnant turned Plagueseeker ship that looks God damn sick. It also has a face of sorts if you look at the middle. Great frontal damage but has great 360 coverage and even 3 Paladin PD systems. Also has a Heavy Phase Grazer which causes it to glow and "dash" to a close by location on top of reducing flux quickly.

screenshot029.png
This one is called World Eater, the Rampage class ship. Strudy as fuck, hits like a World Eater, has a missile autoforge on top of that, and has a unique ability called "ram." It's exactly as it sounds like, faster burn drive. It stops, glows orange, and burns towards where it's looking and smashes into whatever is in its way. It's a fucking unga bunga ship. I haven't noticed the ram manuver having any other special properties compared to the burn drive, just faster with a short windup, but due to its mass and speed it'll overload or outright kill what it hits dead on. Worth noting that this ship and the White Dwarf are called "Corrupted Titans." They both have fleshed out descriptions but the World Eater's ram ability has none, leading me to believe it's still a (fully functional) work in progress.

screenshot028.png
The last one is called the...in the files it's called the Nova but in game it's called the Horizon. Frontal firepower and drones up the ass, can move well with Plasma Jets, it's good at sustaining fire and suppressing ships. It's pretty good, wouldn't really take it over a Radiant but the AI might not be utilizing it enough, or maybe it's the loadout, will test it out more.

screenshot030.png
And of course Cataclysm itself. Insane Hull, insane armor, insane DPS, great speed, great turning speed, great flux, slow as fuck shield spread, can solo most fleets in the game, period. I used it and watched as it shredded a Heg fleet without taking a single point of damage. Not some silly little tax fleet, some end game fleet you'd expect to see during an all or nothing battle over their capital. For a test run I spawned a 1000 DP heg fleet with some super ship mods (mostly Missing Dreadnoughts) and good God did it fuck.screenshot031.png

Boy, did it fuck those tax cucks up. It was very good at maneuvering to spread the damage across it's armor evenly so that they never focused on its most damaged parts, it used its shield well, managed its flux perfectly so that it could never stop firing but didn't 1728974682506.pnglet the shield take too much damage and overload it. It picked off smaller ships and tripped up capitals on each other so it can duel one or two at a time (which it did very well). At the end of the battle it lost pretty much 99% of its armor, but funnily enough lost about 1% of its hull.

It took out most of the fleet, I hope some of you can recognize most of these
screenshot033.png
ships because good God they were destroyed. Again, this was a 1000 DP fleet I spawned in, I've used all of these ships before and they're pretty fucking tough when used right, and in a well organized fleet forget about it. And this fucker took them all on and won with barely any hull damage. I can certainly see why this is normally unobtainable. "Weakest modded ship" indeed, tempted to put it up again some other super ships at a later date. I did once put it up against a "minor" Omega fleet, I say minor because it was small but was 300 DP. Any higher with the mods I had installed and God damn it would be overkill. It could barely handle the Omega fleet with their zippy ships, just like it can barely handle ships it couldn't outright hit like I did with the Doom (I'll be honest I may have been a few Afflictors with reaper torpedos that I jumped into whenever one of them died but I can't remember). So when fighting it, phase and fast ships are your friend, never face it head on, have some heavy duty ships distract so it broadsides them and hit the rear or the front, preferably the rear. Or just throw another "average mod ship" or two at it. Good hunting.

Not sure if this is intentional, but in the same system as the Cataclysm there was this fully intact (suspicious colored) Paragon orbiting the main star. Catacylsm's spawn is completely random iirc so it could just be a coincidence. I haven't touched it, it's completely d-mod free and fully armed. I'll certainly take it. Apparently it's named...TTS boymoder...yeah this is a tranny Paragon isn't it? OH FUCK IT IS, I looked it up and it's from the Volantian Reclamation Initiative, it's called the Estragon :story:Thankfully it seems to be the only faggotry related thing in the mod from what I can see so eh, I'll scrap it and use it to build a normal Paragon. Ooo, actually I'll build an IX one.
screenshot035.png
I'd be worried if those ships weren't mostly civilian, high DP cost, and some even dogshit. Invasion fleets are weird man, they're either sector busting or free scrap, always filled with random ass ships.
screenshot036.png
See now this is worrying.

Phase Anchor my beloved.

What's your current mod list? I haven't played Starsector in a while.

screenshot045.pngscreenshot046.png
The pinnacle of AI technology everyone (yes I know that's the boss Doom variant, I could do this shit with an Afflictor or two, in fact I have).
What's your current mod list? I haven't played Starsector in a while.
Would recommend a lighter list than mine if you haven't played in a while, mine is...wacky, unstable, buggy, crash prone, but damn is it not fun. What was the last version you played and how much have you played? If you've played Starsector a fuck ton you might like Nexerelin for it adds a ton of features that should be in the base game, sometimes a bit too much but it's pretty modular so you can disable some things. Industrial Evolution (indevo) adds a fuck ton of content mostly for exploration and colony gameplay (would recommend their other mod Grand Colonies as well since Indevo has a fuck ton of buildings), Knights of Ludd for more Ludd based content and horrors beyond comprehension (it's seriously a great mod). Underworld is a great pirate based content mod that even adds a new minor faction of esoteric pirate corporate cultists, Tri-Tac Special Circumstances adds kitbashed ships and other goodies for my boys without going overboard, Indies expansion adds some nice content of the independents to make them actually feel like a faction, Roider Union adds a very vanilla friendly faction of people who just want to mine for Ludd's sake and you can too. Console commands and Speedup are great QoL mods that do what they say on the tin (Speedup speeds the game up when you press a button, configurable), Hyperdrive for when you want to tell that interdiction pulse to eat your interdicktion, A New Level adds some more levels for your player because why not, you want those skills don't you?
These are just the more basic mods that expand on the base game, if you really want to go crazy you can but I'd hold off until you get the feel for the game again. I also recommend the Corvus dicksword server for unofficially updated mods and even unique mods for the server, and of course there's the official mod index. And as always read the fucking mod description.

Have they updated the game since that planet-shield update?

I hate how they nerfed the Tri-Tachyon lance, shit was fire. I think its time for another playthrough, shit.

Last version I played was 0.95a and I've played at least 200hrs. Does MVS work on the latest version? I really like that mod.
Yep, MVS is updated to the latest version. Also yeah the version updates add quite a bit but you not so much that mods will ruin it so you're good.

Oh boy, time to sink another dozen hours into this.

Worth noting TheDragn has reposted his mods crash-code free and has even gone through the trouble of respriting some of the High-Tech Expansion ships so they're not all kitbashes anymore.
