Did you ever stumble across a mod that rubbed you the wrong way?
Maybe you wanted a cool skin in left 4 dead only to be assaulted by countless anime/furry mods.

Maybe you want a quality of life mod and you stumble across "animal crossing sex/pregnancy" mod.

Is it weird? Is it cringe? Is it sus? Does the moder belong on a cross?
If the answer to any or all of these is a solid "Yes" it's a mod worth posting. Don't worry about being subjective, it comes with the territory.

(the only mod out of these i like is the anthro wolf Bill mod cause it looks badass. That's the only praise I am willing to give)

Gmod's workshop is total hell because you have to wad through the tens of thousands of dupes and addons related to fnaf, furries, undertale, ultrakill, bronies, hazbin hotel, or whatever huge flavor of the month show or game is relevant and popular with zoomers and troons. The entire steam workshop really needs a content block feature like what nexusmods has.

I remember this one thing involving some rimworld mod that got bitchmad about something and it somehow leaked all over the forums, then the reddit, then some sort of discord. But I can't remember the specifics. She then proceeded to scramble her mods in a way that it bricked everyone that used it.

There's also the bitching in zomboid workshop about "realism" then adding furries for some reason.

Other than that, dunno any other game that has a prevalent workshop that I give enough of a shiit about to remember.

The GMod and L4D2 Steam Workshop pages have it rough. Mods in general always have the potential for goofiness and drama since anyone can make them for better and for worse.

Years ago when I was still messing around in Gmod I downloaded some of those naked women NPC figures for Gmod off this one site where they make nude female NPC's for Gmod. That's all the site was. It was dedicated to making nude female NPC's for Gmod and Bethesda games. I downloaded a few of the nude female NPC models and used that one gravity gun that can make things bigger or smaller. I just gave them all big tits and big fake looking Onlyfans slut asses. It was hilarious.

One this site they had a whole forum dedicated to people using the models and doing what I said above with them and putting them in poses and shit like that. Then they would use photoshop to try and make the pictures they took look better. It was really fucking weird. lol

There was one time I was searching for L4D2 skins, and someone posted a mod that wasn't anime, furry, or anime furry. Like wtf?

But a more serious answer. Any of the so called "pro" mods. You know, those skins that are just glow-in-the-dark flat colours so that aim bots work better or so people in competitive play can spot you a mile away through thick fog and darkness.

There's also the bitching in zomboid workshop about "realism" then adding furries for some reason.
This absolutely baffles me, especially with the Half-Life community.

You have shitpost mods like Crack Life, Trump Quest, and Mystery Combat Man. Then those same fans turn around and throw a complete conniption fit because a mod has Gordon Freeman twirl a gun on his finger. I can trigger most of the Half-Life modding community right now with two words. Cinematic Mod.

The Doom community is kind of similar. Gore, Satan, Rip and Tear, you know, edgy stuff, but don't you dare mention Brutal Doom or it's creator or they'll have a melt down about how he's not politically correct. It's a totally legitimate complaint and not at all sour grapes.

Let's take a look at Darkest Dungeon.

Starts off normal enough. I've used Marvin Seo's class mods and they're mostly quite good. Quickly devolves into anime reskins but nothing that unexpected.
Let's go a little further.

I'd say about half of the DD1 modding scene is anime retextures. Navigating it is a royal pain as modded DD is quite fun.
Most of the proper rancid stuff is found offsite. A bunch of them have redirects to the nexus or elsewhere for the explicit variation.

...why would you mod L4D2?
So I can be blessed with this

Searching for "nextbot" on Gmod unearths a whole assortment of mods about children, children making their own mods, teenagers making inside jokes or obscure references to some Russian/Korean stuff. Shit is like second Facebook for some people here

One more but this time for Vermintide. The way mods work in VT2 is there are "sanctioned" ones which can be used in the normal game and "unsanctioned" ones which work in their own realm that has all the progression systems removed. Sanctioned mods are almost entirely QoL fixes such as custom huds, improved UIs, more numbers, etc etc. Unsanctioned difficulty mods are where the true fun begins and there are even "official" C3DWONS (cataclysm 3 + deathwish + onslaught) events which makes one wonder why they haven't been added to the sanctioned list. However among the sanctioned mods, there is this:

Now, the reason for this is blah blah something about muh ptsd trauma. Nigger, you're playing a WARHAMMER game in a GRIMDARK setting. There's loads of way worse shit than a few hanging corpses. Obviously the mod itself is harmless but a bunch of dipshits got mad after getting clowned on for requesting this and then crowing over its approval. I find it hard to believe that in a game about multple varieties of genocide, a couple hanged corpses is what stands in the way of someone's enjoyment. This reminds me of how the CCP thinks skulls and ghosts are super scary and must censor everything with a skeleton.. Needless to say, this mod falls into the cringe category.

Stellaris has a ton of shit. I've quoted myself because I have so much to say I don't want to retread ground:
I don't know whether to put this here or in the Paradox games thread, but as I was scrolling through Stellaris mods on the Steam workshop, I noticed a particularly coomer-y thumbnail for a Chinese-only mod, which Google Translate purports to be titled "Elf Girl Fantasia-Light and Dark Overture (sorted to the bottom)". Nice.

Now, if I had to lump Stellaris mods into two groups, it would be these: western mods that generally try to fit with the tone and balance of the game but are mechanically unambitious, and eastern mods that show an incredible attention to detail and push the Stellaris engine to its limits, but are grossly imbalanced and exist only to glorify the author's favorite coomerbait Gacha franchise. So, upon seeing a fairly well-rated Chinese-only mod, I, as a dilettante Stellaris modder, decided to download it and take a peek at its file structure to see if it did anything cool (I have yet to run it, if I do I'll try auto-translating the localization beforehand).

With this tangent aside, what did I find in the game files for"Elf Girl Fantasia-Light and Dark Overture (sorted to the bottom)", you ask? Plenty of funky Chinese letters, and porn. Lots of weird Japanese hentai porn. This mod was not removed, not even soft-banned from the workshop, and a good chunk is just straight up porn.

Now for comparison, the Paradox workshop jannies usually SWEEP IT UP when it comes to western attempts at coomer-modding: the explicit is removed, or soft-banned by being marked as "incompatible" (e.g. this mod, the entire incompatible list can be viewed here) which doesn't actually stop you from using them but does hide them from default searches. So I'm genuinely surprised that no one has reported this to the jannies yet, since, surely, some other curious or titillated gaijin (er, what's the Chinese equivalent of gaijin?) has noticed the slutty anime woman and impenetrable Chinese description and investigated, and then felt an urge to see it removed! I swear, it's like Stellaris modding is two separate ecosystems in one, no geofencing, and if your mod is only in Chinese/Japanese I guess you can do whatever you want? To be clear, I don't really care whether this stays up, it's more that it struck me as humorous that such a thing would persist despite the prudish attitude given towards western mods that don't even include explicit graphics. Laugh at incongruent eastern coomer-modding and incompetent moderation with me.
TL;DR follow the links in the quoted post to see some top-tier Stellaris crap.

I say "top-tier" because the dichotomy I described above only pertains to mods that were given effort. To find the low-effort drek, just sort the added mods list by new (this garbage does not exhibit the East-West dichotomy that emerges when effort is applied):

In the screenshot you'll notice one AI-generated portrait set in the upper left hand corner. These are a recent plague atop the usual pile of undercooked shit - compatibility-unfriendly gameplay tweaks that overwrite entire vanilla files, anime asset rips, cheat mods - and they all look the same because everyone just uses the same couple of AI models and it shows. As if Paradox game modding wasn't easy enough already, AI portrait gen has dumpstered things even further.

... Ok, on rereading this it makes me sound angrier than I am. Any implications of rage are just hyperbole. The most I feel is minor frustration, at best shitty mods amuse me.

My interpretation of what you described here is modding fast food. Or in other words: modding slop.

Left 4 Dead 2 and Garry’s Mod’s workshop pages are absolutely fucking vile.

This absolutely baffles me, especially with the Half-Life community.

Yeah, there’s a difference between a shitpost mod that advertises itself as a shitpost, and a “realism” mod.

Was gonna write up a thread on weird Steam workshop mods but it turns out it already exists, so I might as well contribute with a few examples I've found.

Arma 3
Arma 3 has many great mods, but it also has plenty of rather strange and weird mods. While the most obvious mods that fit this description are current war politisperging ones (Russia vs Ukraine, Israel vs Palestine, etc), there are other types of mods that add Furry shit to the game, my main examples being COXHOUND Bonus Content and Alphagarg's Variety Pack.

Granted, the Furry element is rather negligible compared to the other content provided, and due to the nature of Arma 3 as a military sandbox game it's not like it's constantly shoved in your face. Hell, if you pair them up with a Warhammer 40k themed mod you can easily recreate a Flashgitz video.
Overall relatively harmless.

Terraria
While I personally don't play much of Terraria or even care for it, I genuinely dislike it's workshop. Compared to even Starbound it has far less variety in content, all of it essentially being texture swaps or sound changes to existing game assets. This of course means that anyone could make anything for Terraria, which led to "Waifu" mods.
1717338686631.png
Some of these mods are worse than others, one notable "Waifu" mod developer being a troon called Thea Vanherst, well known for making mods such as this:
1717338811106.png

I also think Thea is a bit of a creep and a politisperg, last time I checked their Twitter I saw some sperging about "muh trans kiddos".

Starbound
Now this on the other hand is a game that I hold some genuine attachment to, mostly due to following it's development, rise, and complete fall for over 11 years. And I would imagine some people here feel the same. As such this game has quite a long history of modding, one of it's more famous mods being the Avali mod.

While relatively harmless and honestly kind of interesting, this mod led to what was once a genuine attempt at worldbuilding to devolve into yet another generic Furry race that exists solely for as much weird sexual shit as possible.

Garry's Mod
Do I really have to explain the absolute state of the GMOD workshop?
