It's not politics, it's just telling a story grounded in its own world. Even FF7 needs to be a multiverse story because god forbid a straightforward good gun and villain narrative. Everything is either cynical or exaggerated.Sincerity definitely helps. Though I'm struggling to articulate why. MCU is a part of it, you're right on that: a quip every few seconds has definitely gotten stale. But I think there's more to it than just that. Another part of it is that there's a lot of insincerity going around. A lot of things have a good heaping of propaganda in them now, and propaganda is rarely sincere because true believers are rarely competent (too much of the mind dedicated to the ideology, not enough room for anything else). Also sincerity is generally endearing, even if it can be a little cringe when taken really far (think autistic train shouts of joy, where I can only say "good for them, but please don't subject me to that").
