Yeah, it was. Restricting costumes that are more sexually enticing is restricting the normality of attractive women. They did the same with Lara croft and no-one can argue against a correlation between uglifying characters and the drop in quality and quantity of games.

In one costume she had cleavage, in the censored one it's removed. The character is still an attractive model, but that slippery slope has been started straight away.

First it's the DoA beach volleyball women, then it's lollypop chiansaw and Jessica Negri, then it's e3 booth babes, now there's no E3.

But hey, there's still nice characters like Miranda from ME2, or Morrigan from DA2. It's just a little covered cleavage. Fast forward 10 years and we're arguing over a Korean action game that's the only exclusive released on a console, four years into a generation.

Yes, this is a spergy autistic rant, but I ain't even mad.

I think horseshoe theory is in full effect. By returning the costumes, not only is the left mad, but the right is too. The problem is the "right" pretend to be against censorship, but want sexuality gone. This is why they flail around ineffectually. Add in blackpillers. They want DEI to win because it means they get to be nihilistic and cynical. But even a minor victory stops that.

One of the big problems early on is that the journos set up a win-win scenario. Either people boycotted the game, in which case it gives wokescolds ammo to say that sexy games don't sell, or they buy it in which case they use it to say that censorship doesn't effect sales.

I want to say that the CEO's statement doesn't actually mean anything.

There have been historical instances of last minute changes to games imposed by someone other than the direct development team, and then different stories coming out about it.

Especially in Asian cultures with heavy emphasis on face-saving, you often can't just throw parent companies/supervisors/corporate partners under the bus by saying they told you to do it if you want to keep those kinds of beneficial connections. In other words, there's no reason to assume this statement is the complete truth as opposed to PR.

The whole "instead of changing back we are adding other lewd costumes" was about face saving for Sony. It is a big thing in Asia, even in Eastern Europe.

You always save face first. Admitting you did wrong would mean you are not always right, and thus not fit to lead. Therefore weakness must not be presented.

So, the game that advertised itself as being "uncensored" and for the coomer audience, came censored and the coomer audience was outraged. Wow, consider me shocked! Not like we knew this was going to happen since this was slated to come out for the PS5. You should be lucky you didn't get any sunflare censors, Californian overlords over at Soyny were feeling very generous indeed.

This "controversy" aside, the game looks VERY bland, like a mix of Dark Souls and Nier Automata, veering to the latter to the point where it's just a "Diet Nier". Characters are flat, story is boring, game is blatantly unfinished, and then we have the whole censorship debacle. It's clear that this came from a studio whose main forte is gacha shit and it shows. While I hope the sequel is better, I very much wouldn't trust the studio that already lied about "lack of censorship".
Still, at least Soyny has 1 kinda decent games in their library at this point now. Hooray, I guess? How long has it been since the console launched?

diet nier is the best way to put it. even the music is like a worse/less impactful version of what you've already heard in replicant and automata, the best track is literally the first one you hear and it's the only one i can even remember. i also noticed a lot of animations look pretty iffy, almost reminded me of some pajeet unity game. most of all i really just wish more of the bosses were cool and i didn't have to play for 30 hours or so to get to the good stuff, i think that would've saved the game for me.
i will have to be more cautious regarding a purchase if they do decide to release a sequel, as they've shown they're not above lying to get your money. i guess i should have expected that considering their other games are predatory waifu collector gacha trash, so that's on me and i do feel a little stupid, but i digress.
