So he got elective surgery 4-8 weeks before the kids were due. If they're twins, they likely don't go to full gestation so he probably thought he had 2 months to recover.

Not the smartest decision in my opinion, but not exactly abusive.

I know the first cope as to why he wasn't there was "covid restrictions" which was bullshit. We had our third kid in mid 2021 in a blue state and the restrictions barred family, not fathers.

Second cope was life saving sunken chest surgery (i.e. top surgery) which allowed him to convalesce through the birth. Crowder has issues with anyone getting more spotlight than him, and having the surgery before the birth was a way for him to be the center of familial attention in a situation where he can't fire his parents or inlaws.

Not gonna claim I'm worried about the kids; but just from what I see from the outside, deciding who the kids should go with is determining the lesser of two evils. I don't claim to know either's homelife, but Chowder is probably gonna have a live in nanny and be too busy to deal with the kids; as much as Hillary may use them to get at him, I only see him using them as a prop/weapon as well.

Pregnancy in particular tends to bring the underlying tension of a relationship to a head. My theory would be that Hillary used to wait head and foot for Steven for most of the marriage, but once she got pregnant, she no longer tend to Steven's every need and actually needed Steven to do things for her, which he resented. I get some of that notion from his complaints about her no longer acting "wifely."

I would not be surprised if Hillary got pregnant under the oft-tried-but-always-failed notion that "fatherhood/pregnancy will change him."
