Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

At this point, posting here would just be necroing and it would reflect poorly on me to keep posting, but fuck it, here’s some trivia to take the edge off all the chaos going in the world.

This was worth the necro though. It confirms what I and other kiwis have been saying the whole time.

-There was actually going to be an episode dedicated to Rhodonite but it was scrapped for being too disconnected from Steven’s arc.

It's two Gems fusing and running away, just like Garnet. And it'd be filler just like the townie episodes. I bet they canned it because there's no way Pink/Rose could show up without it being a retcon. Shame.

-Steven going Pink was based off the panic attacks Sugar was having after escaping an assault at age 22. It’s an interesting note but it’s got some people, only half joking, saying that SU has just become her very expensive therapy session.

Haha they said the same thing about NuShe-Ra and Star Vs. You wanted to marry her, Ian JQ. Enjoy cleaning up that mess. 🚬
So it was two-year-old PTSD and not teen angst like everyone tried to say it was. That's dumb. Especially given how disgustingly caring everyone was to Steven his whole life and he just runs from them when he needs them most.

Bismuth’s VA was replaced, with Bismuth Casual being the last time she was voiced by Uzo Aduba.
Someone on the wiki said it was a scheduling conflict and according to her iMDB, she's in a show called Mrs. America. Makes sense if true and not a money issue.

the show was only supposed to run five seasons with the movie capping things off. For whatever reason, CN wanted more and ordered 26 episodes; six went to season five, while the remaining 20 became Future. I think at this point, anybody who says that CN tried to sabotage SU is full of shit.

So all of Becky's bragging about having to fight to get the Ruby/Sapphire kiss on screen was horseshit. SU could've had a decent ending instead of the one we got. CN flew too close to the sun once again.

and yet becky didn't make "future" about the intense potential space lore she'd created but rather an angsty teenage boy. what a shame.
Yeah, even if CN made her continue the series, she could've used that to expand certain characters or other subplots that weren't addressed in the earlier seasons.
Yeah post script seasons can be a real bitch to writers who just want their show to end on the right note. But even then, the best writers can make it work to their advantage; see Hirohiko Araki and everything post Stardust Crusaders.

Sugar really is an example of pissing away every opportunity presented on a silver platter. Could you imagine if Sym Bionic Titan or ThunderCats 2011 or Green Lantern got this treatmentand actually used these opportunities?

You might be right about Rhodonite; still, it’s frustrating to see dozens of characters with potential and inklings of personality, only to be shafted because they don’t revolve around Steven. It’s even weirder when you remember Sugar is a One Piece fan, which juggles it’s huge cast much better.

Agreed with the rest. And it’s funny; this ended up debunking the theory I had. I genuinely assumed SU was an obligation that they kept out of fear for the woke crowd. But it seems likeCN genuinely wanted SU to succeed even if they messed up along the way. Makes me doubt Sugar’s claims as well...

reviving this thread is some really fucking stupid drama

CN posted a picture of the Crystal Gems in traditional korean clothing.
And koreaboos (and actual koreans) got fucking mad.
Why?
View attachment 1312232
because of these two tiny emojis.
Y'see, CN used pictures of the Japanese kimono and sakura cherry blossom.
Instead, they should've used the Korean hibiscus View attachment 1312237
Now, people are accusing CN of being "racist" and ignorant"
posting all kinds of over angry shit like this:
Koreans have a massive hateboner for Japan because of World War 2. This isn't the first time this has happened on Twitter.
In the Sonic Fandom (you know this is gonna be good when it's the sonic fandom), Koreans raised holy hell after Sega sold a hoodie of Tails the fox that looked similar to the imperial Japanese flag (which, of course, was unintentional). They boycotted making any sonic fan art and started bombarding Sega with hatemail and tweets accusing them of racism because of a fucking piece of merchandise that likely would've left rotation in a few months, that they wouldn't have even seen otherwise.

The amount of google translated asspain over a fucking emoji is stunning. Even the smallest fucking things set these people off. So fragile. Btw, no Hanbok emoji exists.

This is the kind of fanbase that this show bred with its progressive pandering. Remember, this is a cartoon meant for children.
To be fair, it’s not JUST WWII that ruffles Korea about Japan. Japan brutally occupied Korea over hundreds of years before WWII, and nearly wiped out their culture and bloodlines, so a bit of lingering bad feelings is understandable.

That said, losing one’s shit over fucking emojis is completely retarded.

Fair enough, I'm not saying that Koreans don't have the right to be pissed off about what Japan did to them in the past, it's completely valid. For me, it's just the fact that they get up in arms over anything that could be construed as Japanese-like or comparing Japanese culture to theirs in things as small and harmless as tweets and merchanise is hilarious.

Holy shit, SUF really was just a knock off of Evangelion. An expensive televised therapy session for an unbalanced author with a whole bunch of asskissers.
Sad it didn't go full EoE and end in everyone either being shot to death or turning into technicolor goo and humanity's destruction and rebirth at the hands of higher beings.

Yeah not that I hate it when writers use their personal experiences for their works but the way it’s down here just feels like their personal angst dolled up with fantasy and sci-fi metaphors.
Making it even more awkward is that the target audience are kids and preteens, the same ones who run in for TTG.

Out of curiosity, do you happen to know what "escaping an assault" means in this context? Because in my experience with Tumblrinas that can mean anything from actual assault to "accidentally made eye contact with a belligerent shit-faced drunk while bar hopping and took their ‘YOU WANNA GO BITCH’ as an actionable threat"

It never specified what the assault was; in an interview, she was vague about the actual assault and focused more on the after effects. How it affected her daily life, how it came and went when she moved to Cali, how she never saw a therapist for it, etc.

Working through these issues is actually how she came up with Stronger Than You and Here Comes A Thought. The interview can be found here:
It turns into a impromptu psychology so fast that you forget they’re talking about a CN show.

new retcon arrived!

>Gems never killed anyone before earth
>Gems are robots that don’t die
>Steven nor the show forgave the diamonds

Then why the fuck did they make the fake shattering of Pink Diamond a big thing? If shattering was never going to matter then why state for 5 seasons that it was something horrible?

Jesus, Ian always seemed the most normal out of the SU crew. Guess his 'wife' must be breathing down his neck for his old problematic behavior on Twitter.

>Steven nor the show ever forgave the Diamonds
Show don’t tell then. Because no one ever shown any actual disgust towards the Diamonds after the fifth season and the Diamonds themselves are pretty happy in their lot. Hell, the fact that you’re retconning the Diamond’s damage speaks volumes alone.

So, first the Gems were magical beings, then they were light based aliens, now they’re robots. Never mind that robots can’t give birth or shapeshift functioning organ systems. I wonder how long until they become straight tulpas at this point.

I’m vaguely familiar with the poor shmuck on the bottom and I know he was a big fan of the show so imagine how much it hurts to see your favorite content creator act like this. I do love how Ian admits that the show has no stakes and anything can just be fixed.

I think it can officially be said that the crew have entered JK Rowling and George Lucas levels of retcon and damage control.

There is a world of a difference between early 2010s Ian and current Ian and it’s definitely not for the better, though even before he had lulzy moments. Between his show getting cancelled unceremoniously and current year politics, I don’t even want to know what being married to Rebecca is doing to him.

So we just gonna ignore an entire seasons’ worth of conflict? Cool cool cool. Draining a planet of it’s resources, terraforming, and planting a superweapon with the intent to destroy an entire planet will affect ALL life, including intelligent. You cant go and say “they robots now” when they explicitly state in show they’re projections from their gem. If being shattered wasn’t a big deal all along dont make a gem being shattered a big fucking deal.

It took Rowling a little over ten years post final publication to start retconning. It’s been, what, 4 months for them?

I never thought I'd see the day when the tardwrangler needs wrangling. Feels bad man. :heart-empty:

His first tweet can already be disproven from Garnet's visual tale of Rose Diamond Quartz. Planet after planet was conquered in the name of the Diamonds. Becky and her crew never made it clear that conquest =/= genocide for other planets than Earth. Because we never met other intelligent aliens that weren't Gems. All non-humanoid creatures were growling, snarling and squeaking. If they talked, that would take focus off of Steven who is part Gem. It always goes back to that whiny fat fuck.

His second tweet is just wrong. Not one thing he said was right! Private Pyle is right about robots not having birth abilities. Not to mention robots don't give a fuck about feelings if it gets in the way of their tasks and programming (what Peridot was before Steven interfered.) Speaking of, funny he's saying the Gems are robots after his crew said Peridot is the rep for aesexual autists. Very nice.

And his third tweet is just retarded. It's based on the fact we learned Rose's army was her army that she created as a Diamond. Her outsides may have changed but her insides didn't. If Gems are robots with feelings than they would have a feeling they need to follow Rose because there's something they recognize in her that's similar to their Diamond. You expect them to choose between two lowly nobodies cut from the same rock type over four three powerful goddesses who can PREVENT DEATH???

Dunno about Ian but given how "virtuous" Becky acts, it's probably giving her a high that she's porking a black man. You know for justice or something. 🚬

"Solar-powered robot gems"

Don’t forget the Cluster which was still charging energy and was still threatening to emerge despite being underground.
Come to think of it, does Homeworld even have a sun? I’ve only seen it with the same purple skyline.

Don't forget the human zoo. And the Off Colors who were forced completely underground their whole lives, and then later became space pirates where they changed galactic clusters as frequently and as numerously as we change socks.

If the gems are robots, who created them?

I think the show really limited its own worldbuilding by making the gems these "robots" with no biologiacal needs, because then the class system is really limited to: fighter, "diplomat", ruler, technician.
