Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

I'm gonna go ahead and initiate full cartoon sperg mode and say that I hope that they don't end up redeeming Yellow Diamond whenever they eventually have to deal with her.

The show's supposed to be idealistic, sure, but there are limits. Yellow Diamond, from what little we've seen of her so far, comes across as totally irredeemable and evil to the core. She authorized horrific Josef Mengele experiments and was willing to wipe out all life on Earth just because of a petty grudge. After that, there's really no way you can just have her go "sowwy, let's be fwiends," and have it be believable. Redeeming villains isn't always a good thing. Sometimes, it just ends up being a massive eye-roll moment.

Also, I'm predicting that the next time we see Jasper, she'll have shrunk from the heat in the earth's core (like how Amethyst is small because she's overcooked). If they do do this, there's two logical ways they could take it. They could either give her some character development and have her side with the Crystal Gems, or she can continue to be evil. She could maybe even cause a major problem for the CGs, and expect Homeworld to reward her for it. Instead, they just shatter her because she's now "defective."

So, what are the thoughts on the new episodes this week? I thought they were decent, though
I think Steven bubbling the Cluster/the Cluster bubbling itself was a bit of a copout. That whole sequence was trippy as fuck, though.
They were decent but they each should have been two parters.

On one hand, the cluster was prevented from forming itself.
On the other hand, it is still there, only in bubbled form.
I get the feeling that thing isn't entirely resolved just yet.

That and Jasper falling into the crust where she may end up with the cluster.

What if it manages to become a complete Gem, big but nowhere near the size it was suppose to be, and becomes a new character? One with a collective hive-mind sort of thing?

Episodes were great though. It was cool seeing Peridot being more open with her feelings, in her own weird way.

I have heard one of the most absurd things/rumors in regard of an animated show by a fan of SU recently. Get this: Supposedly, the reason as of why season 2 was rather short and NOW s3 starts and tries to be as much of actual plot as possible is as followed: CN axed episodes.
I tried to find confirmation myself (so far nothing unfortunately) but the guy I know stated that supposedly there were more episodes of SU already made than aired. Only these episodes would have been again more filler than something related to the actual plot. But now CN has enough of filler cause of fans and wants the plot going on. As a result, Sugar and company axed most episodes and are now busy getting the plotlines going, cause they are afraid the fans will leave sooner than later.
This is actually true. As someone in the industry I can confirm this
There was an extremely controversial episode that explained more about Steven's birth that was a five parter... it was supposed to be a season finale.
I'm probably going to lose my job over this but I'll let the world know . I'm tired of CN not allowing artists to develop real characters
Rose Quartz is actually not Steven's mother. We learn this because the Gems are shown they can die not only from high damage but also by fusing their 'gemetic' information with a human host. Which, you guessed it, means that a Gem cannot host living creature in their own body. The videos Rose made were BEFORE Steven was even concieved--- but Rose and Greg were preparing to create Steven. After the war, Rose was becoming weaker and weaker from all the Gems she had to murder in order to protect earth. Her guilt was consuming her and slowly destroying her physical form. Rose knew that the Crystal Gems would still need her shield in order to keep Earth safe- so Rose had to find a way for her healing and protection powers to live on.
Rose chose Greg not only because of his carefree spirit, but also because of a secret he kept from everyone-- a secret that allowed Rose to have the right tools create Steven. Something that Pearl lacked (which is why Rose left Pearl for Greg)

Greg is a DFAB. Shocking, right? Sugar wanted to include more diverse characters. We find this out from Rose walking in on Greg buying tampons at the gas station. Greg gets really flustered and embarrassed (it's a pretty cute scene) Rose was worried that at first it was for a possible girlfriend... but Greg reveals it's for himself.
In the scene Rose gets the same starry eyes she looked at Greg in earlier episodes. Rose reveals that on homeworld all gems are called female but they all have what humans would consider "male penises". Although on Homeworld it's completely normal.
The series ends with Rose laying Greg down on the beach-- she lays over him and kisses him. It fades to black but it's heavily implied that Rose impregnates Greg with her Gemetic infromation. It ends with Greg waking up on the beach, alone... but with a round belly. "That was fast" Greg says.

Greg never lost the baby weight

I really liked the new episodes!

So, to begin with, I sometimes feel like this show could benefit from expanding to a full half-hour per episode; a lot of times, the pacing feels rather rushed, and plot elements don't really get expanded upon.

I bring this up because Steven's apparent ability to manifest in his watermelon self while asleep kind of comes out of nowhere; while "Chille Tid" introduced his power to talk to others' consciousnesses, it was pretty different from what "Super Watermelon Island" shows. (Despite this, I feel like the Alexandrite vs. Malachite battle redeemed the episode for me.)

"Gem Drill", similarly, felt like a bit of an anticlimax. While I liked Steven and Peridot's interactions and the little bits of surreal horror as the Cluster reaches out to Steven, the resolution also kind of came from left field. Sure, defeating the all-powerful doomsday device by talking to it fits nicely with Steven's character, since when could gems bubble each other from within their actual gems? While they seemed like they were more sentient than the other poofed gems, it still seemed kind of cheap.

All in all, though, I am very excited to see where the Crewniverse take the story next.

Okay... you are shitting me, right?

Okay... you are shitting me, right?
I wish I was.
Sugar tried pushing the limit after making a lesbian couple canon on the show but the CN executives thought it was inappropriate to mention Rose's genitalia and male menstruation. Sugar wanted to let the Trans youth know that it's okay to be a different gender than what you were assigned-- and to keep your natural bits too. Steven was supposed to be the first cartoon child of a trans couple.
Sugar has the power to have episodes created without the executives approval but it's a whole different thing to actually have the show air

Remember this April Fool's joke from a year back that pissed off tumblr?

But since they've already shown Rose pregnant, that means this was technically scrapped, right? Unless Sugar managed to include some of her trans couple logic without the executives knowing.

Edit for clarification: I mean the concept itself, not the episode. Maybe I misunderstood the wording, but otherwise I don't understand how that would be possible given what I said before about Rose being visibly pregnant in Story for Steven. Call it a stupid question if you will but I'm genuinely confused over what's actually canon.

please don't be some elaborate hoax, I really want this to be true for various reasons. this is one of the reasons I love the show because it is trying to be revolutionary in time where cartoons keep playing it safe.

Idk why, but that's really sad when you think about it. It's like giving representation while punching your fans in the feels.

So along with the newest episode airing on Thursday, the next two episodes aired in France yesterday. But they weren't dubbed. So if you look online, you can find three new episodes in English online. "Same Old World", "Barn Mates", and "Hit the Diamond".

i feel like the one with the gem eye knew what was up at the end but went along with it anyway. That "thank you" was interesting.

If I may be honest, I didn't really like the episode. I thought there were a few funny lines in context of the game itself, but the set up was just weird. At least I expected something more dramatic out of the episode and the sudden appearance of other rubies, following the entire cluster thing (which was wrapped up a bit too fast for my taste) . Instead I get to see "our" Ruby act awkwardly with the others, Lapis constantly with an expression that says "why I am even doing this shit" and five rather dumb rubies with personalities that in parts reminded me of the cast of MLP. Mind you, this is only my opinion, based on expecting the story of the show to stick at least a bit longer to their dramatic stuff before doing something like Steven floating. I will give credit to Sugar though if it was truly intentional to play with expectations of the viewers. Like, expecting something dramatic out of rubies showing up, only for it to become a comedy episode about baseball.
