Even with all of this insane consequences that spawned from this show and it's creator's disgusting history, I just can't bring myself to hate it. I enjoyed this show a lot during it's original run back in the mid-2010s, and I think I would still watch it if somebody put it in front of me (that is if it's not a boring townie episode. Fuck that bloodstone episode in particular.)

You know its bad when not even its hardcore fans were able to stick by and defend this show for very long after it was clear that it was over and there wouldnt be more content to "conveniently" make everything retrospectively better. They just kind of gave up and moved on to something else, like a fart in the wind.

The fans moved to Hazbin as an update. Which arguably has even MORE worldbuilding problems than SU. It seems Women writing meaningful shows and failing at it is a reoccurring theme.

Not to mention Viv herself watched SU and said the show was rushed then rushed her own show. Truly a women cartoonist moment.

I went in to this show expecting to absolutely hate it but it kinda surprised me by not being shit. Some cringe moments sure but not shit. But it REALLY surprised me that they did the rug pull with Steven's mom and basically made this character everyone loved be the true antagonist of the series and went from running with the idea of her being the tumblr ideal of the "perfect woman" for multiple seasons to a genuine sociopath who manipulated tons of people and destroyed literally thousands of lives by starting a war just to get her way with no concern to anyone's thoughts or feelings but her own. That was a welcome surprise and the way they handled Steven as a case study in childhood trauma was really well done as a whole. That kid goes through A-LOT of heavy shit both mentally and physically to the point that he' mentally and emotionally unstable by the time he's a teenager.

Something Viv shat on lol. She's just jealous that she can't write as good as Becky.

This show ended up not being as bad as I thought it'd be. I only just made it to the beginning of season 4 though so there is time for me to change my mind.

The worst thing about it is the cringe tumblr arrested development writing and dialogue. And the fact that I really don't think this should be a kids show at all. It gets weirdly groomy sometimes. The weird undertones with fusing have made me very uncomfortable and grossed out more times than I can count but it also makes me laugh. Why the hell was this airing on CN????

But aside from that I'm decently entertained. The Gems are interesting because they are so overtly fucked up. Pearl is the most standout to me, because of all the horrific ways she takes things out on Steven. I have a sinking gut feeling none of the ways these gems traumadump on this autistic fat child will ever be properly addressed or show real consequences for, and it will be written off with sunshine and rainbows and a happy ending, but I shall see the further I go. Somewhere there is a joke about not letting kids be raised by lesbians.

There is some very interesting concepts and I do think that space Nazi gems are fun. I get this was supposed to appeal to the usual mentally stunted suspects, but the way grown people take the themes so seriously and get mad that evil characters get ""forgiven"" (or so I hear, I haven't gotten that far in) because IT'S LIKE BEING OKAY WITH LITERAL HITLER tells me that they need to consult their therapist about the way the engage with media.

I do agree that up until this point its not that bad but this is incidentally around the point where I dropped out until rejoining for the last couple of episodes just to see how it ends.
Season 4 (and it already crept up in season 3) I remember is when I got too tired of the writing blunders and the things the show wanted to prioritize over having the Gems just fight things and build their characters.
