If you guys were honestly expecting some kind of huge ass battle where they beat up the villian and defeat/kill/imprison her after all this time and after it’s been made perfectly clear that’s not what the show is about...then I don’t know what to tell you. Like I said before, it’s a show where the main character’s shonen power is literally emotion and understanding.
I’m not saying you have to like it, but don’t act like it was some sort of big shock. Steven even said “Pink ran, Rose fought, and I don’t want to do either.”

So what, do the showrunners think Stalin would have stopped if someone was nice to him and made him blush?

Regardless of you opinion of the show I hope no other show ever takes up the bomb format of releasing episodes again or if they do they have less filler. It's one of the most off putting about the show for it's style of release scheduling it seems they have a lot of fuller and don't think out the story that much. I understand it takes time for animation and the like but what's the story team doing in between bombs it's not world building.

Biggest disappointment for me is how little backstory or reasons for why gem society is the way it is or what is their origin and history. Other than making it so the characters don't care if buildings and things get destroyed what was the point of even going to home world? They could have had White come to Earth and the whole thing would roughly be the same. Not even a glance of the home world's army even trying to assist the diamonds. Entire home world concept and location was a waste.

We been the gem's home planet and we haven't learned why most hate fusion, why they speak English (other than it's a cartoon.), why they need to conquer planets, other than being big and imposing what is the purpose of the diamonds, or are they a biological or artificial race can they procreate without those injector machines.

There’s still another season, so maybe we can get an episode dedicated to it. But yeah, sucks to not get more info on it.

I don’t think it was the showrunners fault for the scheduling thing, that’s on CN. And I agree, it was a shitty way to do it.

why they need to conquer planets, other than being big and imposing what is the purpose of the diamonds, or are they a biological or artificial race can they procreate without those injector machines.
My thoughts exactly!
The gems have nigh-immortality. They don't need to eat or recover energy. There wasn't another threat or weakness towards the gem race. Why waste a thousand years full of resources and a (not) civil war on a backwater planet according to them? Why leave a living bomb for thousands of years instead of just blowing Earth up? Importantly, why didn't the Diamonds or a higher power make a second generation Pink Diamond?

That last episode sucked, from a plot and writing point of view. Steven is just a Deus-Ex Machina at this point- any problem is fixed by him extolling his virtues all over it. The fusions we saw were super rushed and shitty looking, and Blue and Yellow were really inconsistent.
In my opinion the real fault at the heart of the show is with Pink Diamond, but we just gloss over the fact that she plunged her entire race into war, let down and betrayed thousands of her people and then ran away without considering the responsibilities she was dumping onto someone else. But it's all fine because she was ~woke~ uwu.
I also absolutely cannot stand most of the characters. I know it's a kid's show, but that's no excuse. Lars and Sadie are terrible, Amethyst is useless and Connie's intelligence is defined purely by the plot. Pearl used to be interesting but now she's just a lesbian cheerleader and the rest of the crystal gems are just there to yell encouragement like the side characters in every shounen anime.

That being said, I am completely in love with White Diamond's character design and her voice actor is amazing. I saw a picture of her design online and was interested enough to watch the last episode despite not really caring about the show anymore. The animation in the confrontation between Steven and her was done absolutely beautifully from an animation and colour point of view- but of course that was due to James Baxter so we can't give Sugar too much credit. People were joking in the comments that the fusion scene had more frames than the rest of the show put together- but tbh the difference was no noticeable that it was almost jarring. Yet again, the best animation comes from an outside source (Mindful Education). The music was also as great as ever, I think Sugar really has a gift for putting together soundtracks. I wish we had more of White diamond and saw more of Homeworld, but I get a feeling that we aren't going to be seeing much more of that.

I just wanna see how Lars interacts with people now that he is basically immortal. That kid is gonna be Lion's bff. Also Lapis and Jasper interactions, cause cheeto puff and lime dorito must fight for Bob's affection.
As much as people seem to hate the slice-of-life filler-y stuff, I too am looking forward to all that and more.

I liked White Diamond when she was, you know, actually a potential threat. She gave off vibes reminiscent of Glados from the Portal franchise. Just this huge being with a really creepy hollow voice.

...and then she got taken down because a literal child made a snappy 80's-grade comeback. How riveting.

Ah but you see, the Gem Empire is just a strawman there to represent the White Heterosexual Cis Devil. They're not so much there to be a believable empire but to be a representation of all tumblr hates.

This special just reminds me how frustrated I've always been to see how much potential the series has. It still shows in some of the ideas and during the fight with Obsidian, or as Steven finally fused with each Crystal Gem. Seeing if there was some desperate measures the Diamonds had to take to consume other worlds would have been interesting, like if they had no alternative to keeping their race from going extinct, at least to try and help with us just getting into a group hug and loving everyone. I can't complain too much, though, since stuff finally happened.

I think the main reason people rightfully mention how much horrible shit is just allowed to be forgiven is valid since the show prides itself on focusing on mature lessons and how people should deal with them. You can't really say you're a deep self-aware show when you also say the main characters forgave the tyrannical world-consuming brainwashers (or the Cluster, or the forced fusion abominations). Despite that, people who are frothing at the mouth over this are just as bad as the fanboys, in my opinion. It's just a dumb little show in the end, no harm done. It's fine to point these problems out, but these idiots going on a tard rage about it aren't proving how much smarter they are when they can't stop reeeeeeing at a cartoon show.

If anything I've only felt a lot of disappointment that it never seemed to put effort into fixing a lot of its flaws so the problems just kept piling on it. Not too excited to see where the show even goes from here but I wasn't checking for new episodes that frequently anyway because of the shit scheduling.

If the show wants to give a message of “always try and talk things out and people who truely want to try and reptent desrve to be forgiven”, then I say let them. It may not be completely realistic, but the show was never one for realism anyway. I liked how the show went, but I can also understand why people would be upset by it.

The fact that the diamonds got together without addressing Aquamarine means theres definitely going to be some schennanigans coming soon. Even if it's just in the movie coming out.

Real talk though, wouldnt mind an entire season of pure fluff and filler. We got new fusions, a space pirate, a rock star, and new designs and characters to mess around with!

Oh god I can taste the fluff a mile away

Wait I just realized... White Diamond tells Steven he's acting like a child... but how does she know what a child is? They don't know what boys are, moms or dads, or any of that. The Crystal Gems had to spend literal years to understand what Steven was and Greg had to teach them how to take care of a baby.

Not a huge problem or anything, I just thought it was kinda weird.

As for the filler stuff, I never have a problem with filler as long as it's fun. I just wouldn't want it to center around the Beach City people since I couldn't care less about them. There's such a diverse cast of gems to all interact with each other so I'd be very thrilled for that.

The new fusions seem like a total blast, I loved what we got to see of them!

Seriously if they were going to do what's ultimately a "muh understanding" ending made famous by Gundam then either:

A. They shouldn't have established the Gem Empire as undeniably genocidal and instead actually be trying to impose their way of superiority on the worthy savages (hey White Man's Burden).

B. Indeed as the doctor said reveal that what they do comes from a pressing need rather than White Diamond self-destructing from blushing.
