Just saw it, I was surprised that I enjoyed it. I think it was just what it needed to be for a movie/extended episode. Better animation, good score and whatnot.

I think my favorite part was when steven was singing with the villian above the clouds about how they could have a change of heart and the villain responded with screaming that you can't just make everything better by singing stupid sad songs and slammed him back into the stratosphere.
Wow! That's actually great.
I'd never think they'd pull it off.

Well, I finally got to watch it on WatchCartoons. Really enjoyed it, the new fusion was super great, only real complaint I have is l’m not thrilled that we once again have to dump all over Rose again and blame her for everything. I get it, she fucked up doing what she thought was right at the time. Stop making her seem like the worst person ever.

But yeah, good movie. Actually wish there was more, but it seems like a fairly solid ending.

Oh, and Opal getting to sing was cool.

I've read a comment saying that they can go on like this for years, they just have to find the next gem Rose emotionally fucked up. I agree, it can't be always her fault.

Anyway, I liked it. Too many songs for my taste, but the story was good, the aestetic of the opening credits was really cool, and I liked that Spinel looked like an old cartoon from 1930.

Like a demented old-school Mickey Mouse.

Main villain was another one of those "I feel sad so I'm going to kill everyone" type of villains.
Also, for the love god Sugar, stop making Pink the cause of every single bad thing in the show. We get it, you want to be "submrissive" and all that, but at this point it's just tiring.
Fuck, I don't even think that's subversive to begin with.

Whatever you're describing here about the main cause of conflict in the film itself? Yeah..... It's more cowardice on the writer's part than what YOU describe it as.

It's definitely not subversion - nor did this show as a whole benefit from it, not just this movie.

It's sadly more along the lines of not making an interesting villain, or just not making a good villain at all, which she sadly isn't.

My main question for the movie is, how did the villain recognize, at the beginning of the movie ,amethyst and garnet ?

Will reiterate that I've never seen an episode of Steven Universe, but if I had to take a guess:
Spinel had to obtain the mecha-doomsday device, along with the memory erasing scythe for anything to happen, and I would assume bringing intergalactic peace between aliens would at least have people at least discussing our main quartet on both sides of the field.

I personally chalk it up to Spinel hearing their names in one of Stevens announcements, finds out their faces while obtaining the weapons, and probably hates them by proxy.

Not sure if that explanation would be too smart/simple for the show, or contradicts anything, but it's how I would answer that question.

All Gems are named by their rocks, so she wouldn’t have to know who they are, just that she’d be looking for a Pearl Gem, an Amythest Gem, and a Garnet Gem that would be with Steven Universe.

Upon rewatch I do really like Spinel. Her voice actress, animation, and backstory make her very likable and sympathetic, even as much as I wish that the show would for once show some balls and make things a lot more complicated. Spinel I think is what turns a very "meh" movie into "it's not bad". Probably the only character other than Greg that I give a shit about at this point.

I don't know where the show is supposed to go from here though. Even for a movie, it felt very very small in scale. It's really starting to show just how low-stakes the story of this show really is. Every villain gets redeemed. Every bad situation is from Pink Diamond's shitty toxic behavior (that has yet to really get called out). Every conflict is resolved by way of talking or it all being a misunderstanding. For the assholes out there that put the show on a pedestal and say that it's very emotionally educational for children, I wonder how they'd react to the notion that kids also need to learn that conflicts are not so easily resolved in the real world and that sometimes you have to really fight back to solve crises. Avatar: The Last Airbender tackled the balance between peace and conflict a solid decade ago with much better results.

What more is there to say in another season? Unless Steven's friends all get murdered or the town gets nuked I don't think people are going to enjoy another storyarc with little to no actual threats.
