Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

There's a whole episode in which his old manager comes to town to give him a check- he sold one of his songs as a jingle. That's when he becomes rich. He doesn't let it change him, however. He likes his life and continues as if nothing has changed. He just doesn't have to worry about bills and rent anymore.

Greg deserves EVERY victory he gets for being BEST character, hands down - unlike any other fucking MC in the show (especially, ESPECIALLY Steven and them fucking CGs, who are all unlikable in/for different and easily noticed ways/reasons.), anyway.
I know I've said it before, but I'll repeat it as much as I have to, just for the fuck of it, simply because it's fun and liberating to do so.

Greg is a precious treasure and the gems had no right giving him shit for being the one Pink fell in love with. He dindu nuffin.

Troof. He was the first and only "real" love of hers too. He made her the most human. I fully believe she wanted to have a child not to pass on her responsibility and power, but because that's what human couples do. It's not like she had any way of knowing what would happen.

If this show were actually written decently (which is harder than it looks or sounds, especially when this show has no actual writers on it who know what they're doing, honestly.), THAT is what would be happening in it for real, too.

And yes, we can still have a conflict, but Rose/Pink will actually be more likable for real, not just in theory, as you've provided here.

The CGs being on Greg's case and whatnot would still need some serious work to be less-hateworthy, either way.

If this show were actually written decently, THAT is what would be happening in it for real, too. We can still have a conflict, but Rose/Pink will actually be more likable for real, not just in theory, as you've provided here. The CGs beinf on Greg's case and whatnot would still need some serious work to be less-hateworthy, either way.

Nothing's perfect. But yeah, it would probably have been better that way.

Honestly, I think an issue with Steven Universe is they make the antagonists too sympathetic to the detriment of the protagonists. I still enjoy the show, but when you end up making your good guys look like terrible people to absolve the villains, you’re going in too hard on that angle.

So.. with my limited experience I think I actually agree with you.

Conversely, I saw the (an? I guess it happened more than once) episode where Jasper and Lapis fused to form Malachite, and it was a (supposedly) rape allegory, right? I was still super confused, because Lapis (the "good" one in this instance) seemed to be the one "raping" Jasper.. Lapis actually agreed to fuse with Jasper, but after they did it, she dragged them both to hell... Ok yeah Jasper *was* evil at the time, and after, but she had actually in her own way come around to the "right way" of thinking (Fusion of different gems was considered wrong by the gem homeworld, but Jasper became ok doing it of her own accord.) Only the show punished her for expanding her views... More than once actually.

Abusive/toxic relationships, but that is the thing, yeah. Later on when they manage to separate the two, Lapis admits to enjoying abusing Jasper while fused(she was basically venting her frustrations onto her, so it was healthy to vent the feelings, just not in the way she did it) while Jasper wants to fuse again because of the massive amount of power she got as a fusion. It definitely represents abusive relationships though, because Jasper says “it’ll be better this time, I’ve changed! You changed me!” and it comes across as an abusive ex trying to get back their former partner.

I wouldn’t say Jasper took fusion as “the right way”, she just came to see it as “a way for me to become stronger and more powerful”.

Ok, so I actually saw most of what you're describing, it just seems to me like Lapis was the actual abusive one in their "relationship"... Even though I actually kind of like Lapis >_< Just goes into that previous post about the "villains" in SU being sympathetic to the detriment of the "good guys".

I think they were technically both abusing each other. Lapis was just the one to realize how messed up it was to be in a mutually-abusive relationship/fusion and wanted to be better.

It was the start of making Jasper too sympathetic though, yeah.

Like I loved her character, but I definitely agree that Spinel was full on the bad guy. She got hurt, so she wanted everybody to feel as miserable as she did so she wouldn’t be the only one and fully admitted she knew Pink wasn’t Steven and she just wanted to make him hurt and as I’m typing this, I suddenly realize why tumblr latched onto her so much.

I think I get one of the downsides of the show, aside from all the others already mentioned (creepy implications, weird sense of morality and judgement with certain characters, too much filler...).

When the show was new, in its early seasons, there was a lot of mystery surrounding the world. I think with the Pink/Rose twist, they pretty much wrote themselves into a corner and pretty much cut off any questions or answers the show had. The reason the Diamonds are attacking? Pink. The reason the rebellion started in the first place? Pink. Bismuth, Jasper...Everything that lead to an interesting conflict can be traced back to one answer, and honestly, that is kinda boring. The twist has made the show's world and conflicts seem smaller than before, since we know every conflict was caused due to her and can be resolved by a simple "talk" by her son. If there were other villains, or conflicts, it'd be different, but by tying everything to Pink, they've pretty much left the show without much of a remaining conflict.

I just want to say, and I’ve probably said it before, that I still find it nucking fits that Kiwi Farms is the one place I can have a civil conversation about Steven Universe between those that love the show, hate the show, or are indifferent to it without fights breaking out.
