Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

I originally said the fandom had ruined it too much for me to consider watching... and then I was convinced to watch it anyway. Now it's one of my favorite shows.

Yeah, the fandom sucks, but this show is actually pretty great.

I agree on the 11 minute episodes, though. It's not nearly enough.
I feel like some episodes wok better with an 11 minute runtime, while others needed to be longer.

I don't hate Pearl, but I think the show's maybe going a bit overboard with her character flaws. It might just be my expectations with her character trope (the neat freak, always perfect no matter what) and it's entirely possible that Amethyst and Steven are just as flawed (not Garnet, though, she's perfect) if not more, but it's just sticking out like a sore thumb now. She could use some more character development.

I can only hope she gets it over this Stevenbomb, at least.

My guess is that they will. It's the "week of Sardonyx" after all, which means that today's episode can't possibly be the last we see of her. And if that's the case, Garnet and Pearl have to come to some kind of understanding. Let's hope they give it proper attention and don't just gloss over it.

Also...

"That was a close one..."

I'm starting to dislike Pearl too. She's way too clingy and lets her own grievances get in the way of proper character development. I'm not doubting that'll change, but as of right now it's annoying.

Someone on Tumblr said they hope she finds a gem who'll make her happy. That might be for the best.

Yeah, I love Pearl, but lately she's been a scumbag.

Sigh... All of this drama is actually starting to hurt this show royally for me.

Seriously, why is Steven blaming himself for shit that's the fault of his fucking teammates? It's all Pearl's fault the two halves of Garnert can't function well enough to keep themselves together, bickering like idiots.

As much as Garnet (and by extension, Ruby and Sapphire) are Steven's teammates, they're also his parental figures, and it's very common when parents fight for the children to blame themselves, and I think that's what the writers were going after. It does seem a bit out of place, considering that Steven has been a bit more perceptive in the past, even going so far as to pick up on the fact that the gems sort of blame him for Rose being gone, but at the same time he's still a kid, so I think I could excuse some some irrational thinking when he's suffering under the stress of their feud.

I am very glad that they seem to be handling the incident with Pearl well so far. Garnet didn't instantly forgive her when she got back, things still aren't settled, and while Pearl does seem to be genuinely remorseful, and Garnet is talking to her again (kinda), there's probably still some working that needs to be done, and that feels right.

Guess I can trust these writers to solve this, eventually - by not overdoing it, however, because otherwise, this is a valid point. At least this shit ain't as bad as all the relationship drama BS that has, for quite some time, been plaguing Regular Show (...Just one more reason I'm sure people have grown to hate that show if they didn't already.).

Ruby and Sapphire are so freaking adorable my brain melted from the episode.
Pearl has been losing a lot of points from me lately-- as already said she really does have too many damn character flaws. Sardonyx is great though, I kinda just want to shrink her down and have her replace Pearl in the female trio (er and somehow have her exist without Garnet). Pearl needs to do something amazing and self-sacrificing before the bomb is over.

I do like the drama of it all though, the episodes themselves are great.

That was pretty good "filler" episode. That picture of them punching that shark was also explained fine.

I'm pretty sure pearl's going to redeem herself somewhat, if not now then by the next stevenbomb (though that would be poor writing imho?... not sure).

She has so many fucking issues to sort through that I don't know how many can be resolved in a single episode instead of just having them being addressed over and over like what's currently happening. I did like the last episode though, it was really cute.

Hopefully today is going to carry something meaningful. But i'm really liking this stevenbomb so far. Hnnng
