Aside from my 12 lovely in-patient stays, we've got people actively boarding in long term facilities here. Are you depressed? Probably. One thing I find interesting about these Tumblrtots is how they blather on and on about how psychologists/psychiatrists are The Neurotypical Menace, actively discourage people from seeking mental health care, and spout anti-psychiatry rhetoric that would make a scientologist blush on their blogs...yet their tune completely changes when they wander in here. In a few posts they go from "I would never talk to an ableist shitlord shrink they are Molag Bal incarnate" to "No no I've had like 20 psychiatrists diagnose me with A-Z and I'm seeing a new therapist tomorrow."
I can only assume they think this will somehow make us take them more seriously, as if revealing how much of a spineless lying twit they are makes them more respectable.

You know, my dad was never big on punishment. If I needed to clean up, he'd just say "Go clean your room, sweetie," in a very firm, reasonable voice, and I felt compelled to do it because I didn't want to disappoint him. Meanwhile my mother would scream and guilt me and I put up more resistance. I think the whole punishment vs. reward motivation really depends on the child. That being said, however...
@Stray Sheep if you're demanding a reward for doing a basic chore, you're going to be in for a rude awakening when you live on your own. If you want a reward so bad, reward yourself by playing the vidya once you are done. You're 19, and while I didn't have all my shit together at 19, I was still making my bed every morning and keeping my junk off the floor and put away. If your parents are resorting to threatening you with punishment to do these basic things, perhaps you need to step back and examine the problem... that being, you've apparently let your room become so messy that it's been taking you DAYS to clean it. Set aside a day, clean it, keep it clean, and it will save you clean-up time in the future.
... Aw, who am I kidding, you're not gonna listen to any of this advice, are you? You're gonna end up like Shay and then everything will be awful for you forever.
