Ah yes who could forget such powerful, thought-provoking stories like Cheeseburger Backpack or Cat Fingers or Arcade Mania.
All of which introduced different elements of the hidden overall story, eventually building up to the reveal of the dark truth behind Steven’s family. Don’t forget, the show was originally presented to us as a weird slice-of-life show; we only got hints of what was really going on through subtext until it was finally revealed at the end of the season.

And since so much was told to us indirectly in those early episodes, they didn’t need to waste time explaining it to us by the time it became important. The first season was a wonderfully executed bait-and-switch, and the payoff was fantastic.

That's pretty gay, dude.

Correct. The first season was a near masterpeice in storytelling and the writing continues to be some of the best in western animation. But sjws hijacked it and the staff, for some reason, decided to encourage that, so the anti-sjws dogpiled on that and the whole thing turned into a giant clusterfuck with this gem of a show crushed beneath its weight.
I know it's a bit off topic, but I'll have to respectfully disagree. I watched almost all of the first season, which is about the length of two or more, and I found it to be my least favorite cartoon yet. I found the characters annoying (except Greg, he was awesome), and just everything about it bored the hell out of me. It's honestly just really uneventful and full of annoying or bland characters. I'd comment on how it looks ugly, but apparently that's a thing even the fans are split on, so I'll leave that out for now.

However, it's not this evil entity that some of the SJWs going after it are saying it is. It's too sanitized to be anything that would get an emotional response out of me aside from saying it's a boring waste of time. If anything, they should use that as a point.

To be fair, you have to have a high IQ to appreciate Stevand Mortyverse.
